    i remember eji onu from when i was a little kid. it was my fav. masquerade.
    the eji onu dance can be very spectacular and show like. looking at it now i see a man in a costume, but then it was like watching a super natural creature in action.

    The original mgbadike is from Amesi in Aguata local government area.This is exactly the cop cat of the mgbadike masqurade both its dancing acrobatic even before your American break dance existed in the 80`s.This masqurade has been dancing this way many dacades before I was born in the sixties according to my own village people.Only because internet came of age you can now find some african tradition being posted on you tube.Ezinifite may have copied Amesi people.

    somethings big are missing in todays igbo culture. i remember when i was younger there used to be more spectacular, somersaulting masquerades. fascinating fun times. restoration will happen i know. folks would climb iroko trees like crazy, those days

    So nostaligic; the legendry Ojionu. The number of Ojionu moves found in contemporary break dancing is remarkable.

    @okpalaj What you're saying is that bride price is contingent on bleaching? This is abhorrent in Igboland

    @Nnfefe i agree with u..i dont agree with that other person whoever he/she might be!

  • @okpalaj
    @okpalaj 13 років тому

    @Nnfefe No that's not what i said. im saying that bleaching is becoming very prevalent because of the belief that the lighter the better. Forget about bride price (that really is irrelevant)..everyone is entitled to their opinion, and making generalizations for (ex. bride price is dependent on bleaching is erroneous)..im just saying that, from my perspective, i have lots of friends (old & married & young) doing it because they feel better about themselves with light skin in Nigeria.

    @Nnfefe Hello I'm an igbo, and I have to disagree with your comments to an extent. Igbos don't bleach their bodies for just higher bride prices. I know several igbos (already married) that bleach because we have this stigma that light-skinned is better (not just us, lots of colored ppl). I'm a mixed Igbo (half-british) living in Nigeria, and I can tell you that this is a stigma (and I blame the MEN lol) Lots of Nigerian men like fair girls (i hate to say that) but this stigma needs to stop.

    Yeah, Igbo masquerade a.k.a mmanwu has gone down hill. When I was growing up as a kid, mmanwu was like the scariest thing on earth. We were taught that it was a spirit or dead person, you had to give it reverence, awe, and respect, but now mmanwu looks like a big joke. Back then women couldn't even stand in the same area where mmanwu was but nowadays you even see women dancing next to mmanwu. And I just can't stand all these Igbos in Europe and USA bringing out mmanwu in those countries!!!
