The "Die Fantastischen Vier" from Stuttgart were the first hip hop group in Germany, to make it into the charts. Because of this, they were never taken seriously by other upcoming rap artists in the early 90s and were called a sell-out because they did not embody hip hop in their sense. From the 2000s onwards, however, they were fully established in the rap world, had features and very successful albums as well as solo projects. "Thomas-D" (with bald head and glasses) had very lyrical and profound solo albums. The angry man, then still known as "Hausmarke" (means house brand), now known as "Michi Beck", had the globally successful club music project "Turntablerocker" with his partner DJ Thomilla for a long time. The third, "Smudo", is also known as a racing driver and helicopter pilot, among other things. He also had a few solo projects, but compared to the success of the "Fantas", they were only moderately successful. The fourth member of the group, with a beard and slightly longer hair, is (Andi Ypsilon) "And.Y", wich simply means Andy, not "and why". He is the DJ of the group and also a successful producer for other artists. Of course, all four are good friends of Clueso. He comes from Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia, and grow up as an rap artist in the "Zughafen" area there. He became known as a genuine rapper, but then went more in the pop direction and established this then relatively new genre very successfully and started projects with all of Germany's well-known artists. He is definitely one of the best known German artists, played several instruments and is a fantastic lyricist. (check "Chicago" and "Cello").

"Die Fantastischen Vier" is, I believe, not so much an allusion to the Marvel heroes but rather the "Fab Four" nickname of the Beatles. At least that's what I and the people with whom I talk about music always assumed.

I know that Smudo and And.Y first named themselfes "Die Zwielichtigen Zwei", then "Terminal Team", and finally, after the addition of Michi Beck and Thomas D, they ended up on "Die fantastischen Vier". If this was a call back to "Die zwielichtigen Zwei", self invented by them or inspired by the Fab Four or Marvel is unbeknownst to me. And i haven't found any information out there regarding how they came up with the name.

"Zusammen" means "together". As in they are together again (they had a long 'break' in their music career, where each did their own thing). And even though they are shown in the video as "they need something fresh", in reality, they don't. They are as popular, if not more so, than 20 years ago.
I would recommend you listen to one of their most famous and best songs, "Sie Ist Weg", from 1996-ish. Everybody in Germany, even non-fans, know that song's hook and can sing along with it. Whether they want to or not. 😂 You just can't help it. 😅

Fanta 4 are THE roots of German HipHop. You get the story of the video pretty right. Unless in the beginning the manager shows them their own success years ago and then tells them that they act latest really shitty and egoistic because of the fame, which leads to bad sales and angry fans. And then they are forced to work with Clueso and don't like it at all. Which is an alternative reality! In real they are still very famous and successful, new album is released today, they have their own label, Smudo and Michi Beck were part of the jury of The Voice of Germany and The Voice Kids. Clueso is also very successful, good singer. And in reality they all are good friends, which makes the video even more funny. Definitely check out more of Fanta 4 and also Clueso ❤

Fanta 4 were never 'next level rap' but always best entertainment and up to a cool and fun way to play with the german language. Music production was and is always on the top. And than the videos.clips that are still somewere between absolutley fantastic and hilarious. Nearly every video gives you a garantee for having a great time. Definitely legacy musicians. I grew up with them in the nineties. They had many great songs I still enjoy listening to. I also like Thoms D's solo project (bald guy, headphones on). Liebesbrief and Rückenwind are songs worth listening into. They have a completely different vibe, compared to this one.

I think even if you don't listen to their music, you definitely know them (if you live in Germany). Clueso has been making music since the mid-90s and had his breakthrough in the early to mid-2000s. He's now also extremely well known in Germany. In 2011, Clueso recorded a song together with another German legend Udo Lindenberg (‘Cello’, a song from 1973 by Udo Lindenberg), which also made him known to older people. Incidentally, the song ‘Zusammen’ ('together') was ARD's (german tv station) official World Cup song for the broadcasts of the 2018 World Cup.

Advance chemistry are older but fanta4 are founded at the same time. They are from Stuttgart and now more in TV shows but even had a MTV unplugged live concert what shows they are real artists. According to several sources, the "ue" in "Clueso" is pronounced like the German umlaut "ü" (or French "u"), which is difficult to transcribe as this sound does not exist in English (the English "clue" also sounds different).
UK hiphop does have it's 80s/90s legacy acts too like Rodney P and Roots Manuva but we didn't really have household names until Dizzee Rascal came along in around 2003ish. In the mid 90s, Tim Westwood was almost killed in a drive-by shooting because he wasn't playing any local acts. I remember when I was a kid, the only rap played on MTV UK and BBC radio 1 was US rap and they didn't want to touch UK rap at all, which kept the UK scene underground and uncontrolled by the corporate side of the music industry, allowing it the freedom to develop unique sounds like garage and grime, broadcasted via pirate radio to the immediate surroundings until channel U started up on sky in the early 2000s and people all over the UK and Ireland suddenly had access to all these inner London acts getting really creative on a low budget. The music industry in France and Germany was more interested in their local rap scenes right from the start, I guess because unlike US rap, it was in a language everyone already understood.
Thomas D is also performing solo. "Millionen legionen" as MTV unplugged version in some kind of cave is so incredibly powerful. He does a strange mix of rap and spiritual chanting kinda.. its really worth a listen

yes, you got it right pretty much and you need to watch some of their old stuff that made them (and mainstream hip hop in germany in general) big back in the day :) Like "Die da" was their big break I think. Or one of the first songs I recorded from the radio as a kid - "MfG" :)

Clueso is a famous German singer/songwriter with great storytelling lyrics - also very successful for years - BUT younger than Fanta 4. So the manager in the beginning wants them to be as successful as in the 90s and early 2000s and thinks it would be a great idea to have some 'fresh blood', hence the 5th person: Fanta 5. 🤭 I think in real life Fanta 4 and Clueso are good friends, so the animosity in the video is really funny. Especially because the title of the song is "Zusammen" (Together) and it's about how it's better and nicer to work TOGETHER.

oh yeah hip hop in germany was big mid 90s but early 2000s was more new metal, pop and stuff.. and although there were still hip hop artists, they havnt really had a big impact on mainstream media. But people get older and still cherish the memories and music they grew up with and its nice to see "your old artists" still doing business. Clueso is a rather young pop artist. they've made a nice joint there :)

Clueso is also quite popular but he's better known to younger people and even more mainstream. Fanta 4 were always known for a happy pop style of hip-hop with intelligent lyrics and they stuck to it when German artists tried gangster rap and the autotune bs we are to endure nowadays.

Die fantastischen vier had been dissed by the "real" (undergroud) hip hop artists upon their upcoming in the early 90ies. The criticism they faced was that their music was rather considered as "Sprechgesang" (English = Chanting) than as rap/hip hop of the original kind. They were too close to pop culture and too far away from old school music culture. Nevertheless they have been accepted for being trailblazers of hip hop in Germany at some point. For reason! They are great artists and important people within Germany's musical landscape. If you like to come across some "real" old school German hip hop, check out: "Advanced Chemistry" with "Fremd im eigenen Land". Nobody is gonna argue that this was genuine pioneer old school undergroud hip hop 😎
1:50 the producer is not comparing them to other artists he's showing them how the good times were back in in the 90s when "Die fantastischen vier" (the fantastic four) brought HipHop to the main audiance in germany. HipHop was underground only until these guys came to the stage and to radio air time. Clueso himself is also a well known artist in Germany ususally as singer songwriter but he came to stage rapping and the fanatastic four helped him to get big.

Fanta 4 are living legends! They still belong to the German music scene and we still love their music, even 30 years after their 1st record 😀
Clueso is a popular singer yes, also started in rap & a really nice down-to-earth guy (like all of them)! 😄 You got the concept right, and ironically the song is about being & staying together (as a band) a little while longer!
"Zusammen" means "together". As in they are together again (they had a long 'break' in their music career, where each did their own thing). And even though they are shown in the video as "they need something fresh", in reality, they don't. They are as popular, if not more so, than 20 years ago.
I would recommend you listen to one of their most famous and best songs, "Sie Ist Weg", from 1996-ish. Everybody in Germany, even non-fans, know that song's hook and can sing along with it. Whether they want to or not. 😂 You just can't help it. 😅

Fanta 4 are THE roots of German HipHop. You get the story of the video pretty right. Unless in the beginning the manager shows them their own success years ago and then tells them that they act latest really shitty and egoistic because of the fame, which leads to bad sales and angry fans. And then they are forced to work with Clueso and don't like it at all.
Which is an alternative reality!
In real they are still very famous and successful, new album is released today, they have their own label, Smudo and Michi Beck were part of the jury of The Voice of Germany and The Voice Kids. Clueso is also very successful, good singer.
And in reality they all are good friends, which makes the video even more funny. Definitely check out more of Fanta 4 and also Clueso ❤

Fanta 4 were never 'next level rap' but always best entertainment and up to a cool and fun way to play with the german language. Music production was and is always on the top. And than the videos.clips that are still somewere between absolutley fantastic and hilarious. Nearly every video gives you a garantee for having a great time.

Definitely legacy musicians. I grew up with them in the nineties. They had many great songs I still enjoy listening to. I also like Thoms D's solo project (bald guy, headphones on). Liebesbrief and Rückenwind are songs worth listening into. They have a completely different vibe, compared to this one.
Fanta 4 introduced in 1992 with "Die da" german hip hop to the mainstream audience. And the whole 90st are full off their hits.

The Fantastischen Vier (or simply Fantas, in english: The Fantastic Four) were founded in 1989 in their current constellation (beginnings in 1986). They are one of the most successful hip-hop bands in Germany. You absolutely have to listen to an early song (1992) by them: "Die da?!" I think even if you don't listen to their music, you definitely know them (if you live in Germany).
Clueso has been making music since the mid-90s and had his breakthrough in the early to mid-2000s. He's now also extremely well known in Germany. In 2011, Clueso recorded a song together with another German legend Udo Lindenberg (‘Cello’, a song from 1973 by Udo Lindenberg), which also made him known to older people.
Incidentally, the song ‘Zusammen’ ('together') was ARD's (german tv station) official World Cup song for the broadcasts of the 2018 World Cup.

Fantastic four together featuring clueso is right. Actually your were quite right with everything. Fanta4 are legends from 1986 the beginning of german hiphop. Advance chemistry are older but fanta4 are founded at the same time. They are from Stuttgart and now more in TV shows but even had a MTV unplugged live concert what shows they are real artists. If you want you can find many many music video of them.
The band project started in 1986 and is known as "Die Fantastischen Vier" (short: "Fanta4") since 1989. That makes them the oldest active german rap-band as they are still around - they just recently released a new album. Check out their live performance "Die Fantastischen Vier - Ernten Was Wir Säen (Live Heimspiel 25. Juli 2009)" on a big stage, incl. an orchestra, e-gutiar, choir, etc. infront of 60,000+ people! It's fun! :)
The "Fantastischen 4" and "Fettes Brot" filled this music with German lyrics and practically created "Gassenhauer".
By the way, it was very practical to have "Björn Beton" ("Fettes Brot") as a community service worker in the kindergarten, because then at least one person was musically fit and knew the lyrics at the lantern processions and celebrations. ;)

UK hiphop does have it's 80s/90s legacy acts too like Rodney P and Roots Manuva but we didn't really have household names until Dizzee Rascal came along in around 2003ish. In the mid 90s, Tim Westwood was almost killed in a drive-by shooting because he wasn't playing any local acts. I remember when I was a kid, the only rap played on MTV UK and BBC radio 1 was US rap and they didn't want to touch UK rap at all, which kept the UK scene underground and uncontrolled by the corporate side of the music industry, allowing it the freedom to develop unique sounds like garage and grime, broadcasted via pirate radio to the immediate surroundings until channel U started up on sky in the early 2000s and people all over the UK and Ireland suddenly had access to all these inner London acts getting really creative on a low budget. The music industry in France and Germany was more interested in their local rap scenes right from the start, I guess because unlike US rap, it was in a language everyone already understood.
Thomas D is also performing solo. "Millionen legionen" as MTV unplugged version in some kind of cave is so incredibly powerful. He does a strange mix of rap and spiritual chanting kinda.. its really worth a listen

I still remember the time before, when they already were known in the region of Stuttgart and Thomas D. (the guy with the glasses and the grey beard) sometimes worked at his father's filling station which happened to be in my hometown Ditzingen near Stuttgart. Clueso comes from Erfurt and became famous in Germany during the 2000s.

So the manager in the beginning wants them to be as successful as in the 90s and early 2000s and thinks it would be a great idea to have some 'fresh blood', hence the 5th person: Fanta 5. 🤭
I think in real life Fanta 4 and Clueso are good friends, so the animosity in the video is really funny. Especially because the title of the song is "Zusammen" (Together) and it's about how it's better and nicer to work TOGETHER.
Clueso, the younger guy, is a rather well known artist. I like a lot of his stuff. You cought on well to the portrayed storyline for the video, but its just for the fun.

oh yeah hip hop in germany was big mid 90s but early 2000s was more new metal, pop and stuff.. and although there were still hip hop artists, they havnt really had a big impact on mainstream media. But people get older and still cherish the memories and music they grew up with and its nice to see "your old artists" still doing business. Clueso is a rather young pop artist. they've made a nice joint there :)

Basically they used to be big in the mid 90s and the Manager said it has been a long time since they were good and their last concert got a lot of bad reviews as they quit after 30 minutes.

which is totally ironic and really playing on their legendary status, because they have been great ever since and have made so much good music since the nineties….! The manager in the beginning and the discussions they show are CLEARLY acted as a means of making fun of artists who feel they constantly have to reinvent themselves, forgetting who they really are and what they are truly good at… Dwayne‘s analysis is spot-on! Especially the freak out scenes are hilarious, because they are great collaborateurs with other artists (eg. the Jazzkantine/Smudo), are very active as judges in the German Voice and are really interested in giving a helping hand to young artists!

Die Fantastischen Vier ("Fanta 4") are a national treasure. There is no German who doesn't know them and several of their songs. Clueso is also quite popular but he's better known to younger people and even more mainstream. Fanta 4 were always known for a happy pop style of hip-hop with intelligent lyrics and they stuck to it when German artists tried gangster rap and the autotune bs we are to endure nowadays.

Die fantastischen vier had been dissed by the "real" (undergroud) hip hop artists upon their upcoming in the early 90ies. The criticism they faced was that their music was rather considered as "Sprechgesang" (English = Chanting) than as rap/hip hop of the original kind. They were too close to pop culture and too far away from old school music culture. Nevertheless they have been accepted for being trailblazers of hip hop in Germany at some point. For reason! They are great artists and important people within Germany's musical landscape.
If you like to come across some "real" old school German hip hop, check out: "Advanced Chemistry" with "Fremd im eigenen Land". Nobody is gonna argue that this was genuine pioneer old school undergroud hip hop 😎
1:50 the producer is not comparing them to other artists he's showing them how the good times were back in in the 90s when "Die fantastischen vier" (the fantastic four) brought HipHop to the main audiance in germany. HipHop was underground only until these guys came to the stage and to radio air time.
Clueso himself is also a well known artist in Germany ususally as singer songwriter but he came to stage rapping and the fanatastic four helped him to get big.
Even in Northrine-Westfalia, we got at least 4 or 5 accents. It is almost every time crazy to listen to just 20 KM away......
instead of "Die Fantastischen Vier" (and yes it means the fantastic four) just call them "fanta vier" they even refer to themselves as that.
and i'd say you got most of the concept, manager was basically saying that their sales were down and their time of gold/platinum albums was behind them (it was them in the picture he showed), so he wants to make it the fantastic five, and then the text at the end says that after some "deliberation" he decided to put the fanta 5 project in the freezer...

You should definitely check out "Liebesbrief" by Thomas D. one of the members of Fanta 4. My all time favourite love song. The lyrics are so beautiful and amazing.
The solo artist Clueso started his career actually in the hip hop genre and started to mix it up with more pop.
Fun Fact: In their new song "Wie Weit" ( ua-cam.com/video/cIY2GWXxO_I/v-deo.htmlsi=2DS_ZMe4J7Pm3VqL ) die Fantastischen Vier use a sample from the song "Hungriges Herz" by the german band MIA. ( ua-cam.com/video/_FjRy2TiztE/v-deo.htmlsi=677faucApCcJHKJU ). 2004 MIA. tried to get to Eurovision with "Hungriges Herz" - but didn't win the national final. Although Max Mutzke (who won in 2004) was great that year, it's still one of the missing chances for Germany in Eurovision...
