- Hey friends, Just in time for the end of Jamuary I’m really excited to share with you my new Jam “New Dawn”. It is the first jam with my new hybrid synth setup which combines @Ableton Live with my @WeAreElektron and @MoogSynthesizers hardware synths and samplers. This is a big step for me and I have been working hard on refining the setup over the past weeks. It’s still work in progress but I’m getting closer to my vision everyday and I’m excited to hear what you guys think about this song.
“New Dawn” is already out as WAV download on my brand-new Patreon page! Apart from the song you can get my Digitone and Digitakt project files, soundpacks, Ableton templates and so much more perks over there - so if you want to get it you can check it out: / mileskvndra
Cheers and have a great rest of the week,
Miles

Really love your melodies ❤, keep going on making such lovely music, thank you sir!
That’s awesome to hear! I will keep going for sure 💜
Love this track! Absolutely killer. Just listening through some Jerry Harvey Audio Roxanne CIEM's and they really show up everything. The mastering on this is wonderful!
Oh wow that is a nice pair of IEMs! Working for Sennheiser in my day job I’m a little bit obsessed with headphones myself, usually I prefer over ears but I really enjoy my IE 200s for on the go music enjoyment. Great to hear that you like the mastering on this track!
Love this Jam! It's great to hear such analog sounds from the mother 32 and the digitone. I also really enjoy how every instrument kept its voice throughout while also changing parts with the energy of each scene. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Azim! Great that you hear that and that was the intention - will definitely keep it up 🙂
sooo good man! mad respect
Thanks so much for your feedback on the track. 🫶🏻
Looking forward to this! I was also wondering what you think of the idea of making a video about your experience with syncing ableton with your elektron setup? I would be very interested to know things like which holds the master clock, the digitakt or ableton? Also if you wanted to incorporate song mode, then how could song mode from one of the elektron devices trigger the correct clip in ableton?
Cheers Azim! Happy to hear about that interest. Yeah I’m planning something like that for sure. From my experience I have to say it works great when Ableton is the master tool. It does master clock + sends Midi to the boxes and that works great for me.
@@MilesKvndra Good to know! I am guessing you use overbridge then? I really love the tactile feeling of sequencing from inside the digitone and storing my sequences inside the patterns on the device. But I guess you can also use a Push 2 as your master step sequencer and create midi clips in ableton on midi tracks that send midi to the corresponding channel on each of the boxes. I guess that is the trade-off to a hybrid setup. In any case, I would love to hear about your actual setup.
@@azimpradhan yes Overbridge is the way to go for me. It actually works quite well for me! And as much as I love the Elektron sequencer I didn’t find a way to change sequences in Ableton so that the Digitone follows. So now I’m sending midi notes from Ableton to the DN. It was a trade off first but now I find more and more cool midi tools that get some interesting results. And layering is much easier this way I have to say.
I'd also love to learn more about this!
@@iamjamessmith cheers James and good to know that the interest is there! Happy to share some of the process
Very good pacing.
Cheers John!
Great stuff Miles. Beautiful melodies as usual and you are basically a DAW in human form.
Thank you so much Jason! Means a lot 🙏🏻💚
Dope 🔥
Thank you! 🙏🏻💚
Amazing! 🤩 🎉
Cheers Seth 🙏🏻💚
good!
Thanks a lot!
Nice Jam, to me your best so far. Would be interesting to learn a bit more, for which duties Ableton is used for, how you patch your mother (pun intended 😅) and how you chieve this satisfying Rattlwsound
Thanks dude! Yeah happy to share that in a video in the future - Ableton is kind of the master device which sequences everything. For the mother patching I will have a video soon (already recorded :) ) and the rattle sound is coming from the Digitakt (some samples sequenced and played with the retrigger function turned on).
What a masterpiece my friend! Really from beginning to the end, all the elements are so beautifully connected and the build moves the flow of emotions and energy like magic🖤
Thank you so much Adil, also for sharing on Instagram. Really appreciate your feedback and the share on the IG story. Much love buddy 💚
Dude you are super talented. Seriously - you retain the character of these instruments - bravo
Wow that’s amazing to hear! Thanks a bunch 🙏🏻
This is a masterpiece Miles! Really well put together journey from beginning to end, you have a great setup going here! That second half after the build is just unreal, and the outro was smooth as silk. 👏👏🖤🎶
Thank you so much Hexwave! 💚 so happy to hear that as I’m very happy with the setup too. Can’t wait to further refine it and make music with it 🙌🏻
Yes 😊 awesome work 🪷🧘♀️🙏 Good luck ! 🐬🎶🎹
Thanks a lot Cti. Glad you dig it 🙏🏻
Wow 🤩 this is Breathtaking!!!! Uplifting and expansive!!!! Bravo 🙌
I love this piece!!!! Listening to it on repeat. It really hits all the right feelings with warm soft edges and splashing moments of excitement 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟😊🌟
Cheers Ben! Great that it is on repeat - means a ton to me! 💚🙏🏻
Beautiful jam!!
Cheers buddy! Thanks for listening- looking forward to hearing your new tracks too 🙌🏻
Yeah! Your work keeps getting better and better. Thanks a lot!
Cheers buddy! Happy to hear that 🙏🏻
Awesome! I appreciate the fact that your're really building those complex songs and instead of publishing raw jams.
Thank you Armin! It took me a long time to have this ready and get it going so I missed a lot of the Jamuary fun 🥲 but have seen some great jams out there. Big respect for people like Guillaume who create, record and share jams for 31 days straight - that's super impressive. Looking forward to your album! :)
👍
🙏🏻💚
Wow, what a great jam! Listening to it, I was imagining how I would obsess over the details, then I read the description where you say you spent some time doing the same...glad to know I’m not alone👍🏻
Thank you! And yeah totally - I underestimate how much time details can take. But it’s so worth it the music really benefits from it!
the popoff at 6 mins was so sick. you've improved so much over the past few years
Thank you Michael! Happy to hear that - Ableton opens up new possibilities with automations and I’m looking forward to exploring that further. 💚
@@MilesKvndra dude hell yeah, 6 min brings it to another level what! release time
@@jojjeboy Thank you! Yeah keeping the release up and extend the drop works really well in this :)
@@MilesKvndraman this is really so so good, where are you based? would be epic to see you play a live set, also, one more question, how do you use the microcosm in this? only on the digitone? or moog? im not really that experienced with pedals
@@jojjeboy thank you! I’m based in Cologne and hope to get some live shows going this year. :) thanks for the interest. The Microcosm in this jam is only affecting the Moog and is only used very sparely to create a nice pad like sound in the background. You can best hear it in the intro. Cheers!
Love this one! ❤
Thank you 🙏🏻💚
Awesome work 💛
Thanks a bunch James! Much appreciated 💚
Your work is always impressive, but this one is my favorite. Can really hear your personal style coming through
Thanks a lot Claus! It was important to me to maintain my style while switching setups - so glad to hear it worked out. 💚
Sounds gorgeous Miles - awesome werk. X
Cheers Thundergate! Much appreciated 🙏🏻
Sounds great! Congratulations 🎉
Thanks kuanjian! 🙏🏻
beautiful...
Thank you so much 🙏🏻💚
Truly inspiring. I have almost the same gear (Push2, Model D, Takt, Tone and Microcosm) but they've never sounded like that! You are certainly a master at your craft.
Thank you so much! This is really appreciated- but I have to say it took me some months to get this setup going in a way I want it to go (and I’m still refining it further).
Coolest stuff! Awesome live work👍
Cheers Skari! 🙏🏻💚
Beautiful Miles. You always inspire me to get off my ass and make some music. Thank you 🙏
Hey Alex, thanks a lot! This is awesome feedback as inspiring others is the best thing to hear. Cheers 💚
Love your music! Keep (push)ing like that!!!
Thanks a bunch! Will do, you keep it up too 🙌🏻
Awesome dude! Love your setup and workflow. Maybe one day you could explain how everything is connected. Cheers!
Thank you Alfredo! Yes happy to work on that once the live setup is fleshed out 🙌🏻
Sehr schön! ❤
Ich danke dir mein Lieber! 💚 schön von dir zu hören und freut mich sehr, dass es gefällt. Großer Fan deiner Jams 🙏🏻
@@MilesKvndra freue mich dich dieses Jahr live zu sehen/hören. 😊
Joseph auch am Start 😍
Na klaaaar 😍♥️
I think this is my favourite of your tracks to date - great stuff! As others have said, would be great to hear your thoughts on using Ableton with Elektron. Really enjoy your work.
Thanks a bunch Fierce! Very happy to hear that and good to know about the interest in the workflow. Will check that!
Wow, you took it to the next level!
What is LIVE for?
Thank you! Live is the master hub which contains all the clips, structure and where everything runs together. I'm also having kicks, bass, hihats and percussions in Live
Great jam! Now that you are switching to a hybrid setup, is there still an interest in using Elektron machines? Only synths with the push would it not be enough?
Cheers man! And yeah, there definitely is. Most importantly I know my way especially around the Digitone so well that I love to produce and perform with it. It just feels natural. But there is also the CPU reason when I can let the Digitone handle a lot of the synth work to take it easier on my MacBook. I think for one song it would be fine but for more complex sets it definitely helps!
wow 2 digitone I'm thinking about getting one for my Maschine MK3 and MASCHINE Jam and Akai MPC one would be amazing to add digitone
Yeah I think that could be a great addition!
@@MilesKvndra was it easy to connect all of it together
@@pierrefitch yeah I find the Digis not hard to connect. They pair quite well in different setups
If you could only do one, this was a great one. I pushed out 31 for the month, but based on the sound, I think you put as much time in this one as I did for all 31 of mine. Nice job.
Thanks man! And you are right haha - it took me weeks or even months to set this new setup up but it was worth the hassle. But I have to say I really admire people who do all 31 days of Jamuary which I’m sure is a great exercise- congrats on that! 🙌🏻
Nice setup! Also been dialing in a hybrid Ableton/Elektron setup over the past few weeks. Are you running into an issue where the overbridge plugins only output clicks and you need to toggle the plugin on/off before you get sound back? Been trying to debug it, currently testing whether Total Recall has something to do with it. Would love to know how you integrated the push as well. Thanks for sharing your art; love this jam and excited to see more!
Hey Flavius, thanks a lot for the lovely feedback! Overbridge works well for me so far. Had some troubles with the vsts but now the AUs under Apple work really well without any artifacts. The only thing I experience are latencies from the DN and Digitakt of about 20ms with my interference but I compensated them and now it works smoothly. :)
@@MilesKvndra Omg! Brilliant, never thought to use AUs over VSTs, will give that a shot. Regarding latency, I see that my VSTs add around 33ms of delay if I turn off External Sync to the DT. I'm wondering if it's best to keep external sync on or manually fiddle with the latency offsets. Curious how you setup your compensation.
@@flaviuspopan ahh that’s interesting! Maybe that’s the same latency that I am getting. I’m recording all tracks from DN/DT to different audio tracks on which I applied the latency compensation. This works but it’s a little workaround to set up
This is breathtaking! I LOVE the soundscaping you're doing, combined with the very crisp acoustic percussion. It fits very well together and it feels very spacey. Are the acoustic samples coming from the Digitakt, or from Ableton? They sound so crisp. The buildup to 6:10 is amazing. Well done!
Thank you so much Sineway! The samples are a mixture - kick, snare, hihats, perc loops are handled by Ableton but some random distant percussions, riser claps and swooshs are done by the Digitakt. The Digitakt is also my Midi Controller for the Ableton send effects.
Is there a way to filter sweep the drumrolls on the digitakt? Would add a bit extra I think.
Hey there, yeah I think that would work with trig logging different filter values in the sequencer. And thanks for the tip, I always felt these drum rolls could use a little bit extra.
In complete disrespect of your video on G.A.S., would love to hear this track with the Pittsburgh Modular Taiga replacing the Mother-32 😂
Haha I see where you come from! That's that new semi modular synth in the game right? Does it sound good? Haven't checked it out.
@Miles Kvndra Hi Miles! Yeah, that synth is getting the review cycle now. I guess the gag order ended this week. It has some interesting features with wave folding and some unique analog waveforms. It also has some interesting additions to the VCA. Probably the biggest deal is how colorful it is, making look 10x more fun than if they had plain colors. To me, it reminds me of the M32 because of the price and form factor. Appreciate the music🫡
@@fleetadmiralsidiqi1941 interesting, thanks for the insights!
thanks Miles for this share.. pretty awesome! Got a question for you. Is ableton the master in this set-up?
Thanks a lot Jean-Francois! Yes, Ableton is the master in the setup sending clock to everything and also sequencing Moog + Digitone.
Thanks again for your answer. It seems that all the drums are coming from ableton clips.. am i right? @@MilesKvndra
@@jean-francoisduguay7592 Yes, that’s correct. It’s a mixture of midi clips created in Ableton and audio tracks I recorded from other gear (mainly the Digitakt).
thanks again for your time! @@MilesKvndra
Sorry to bother you again Miles. I'm having another question for you. :-) Are you launching the program change from ableton to the digitone with the ableton midi clips? Bank, sub and pgm..
Excellent work. Still unmistakably Miles Kvndra but a so much fuller sound. Love the long reverb tail at the end. Are you just using Live to sequence/sync everything or are you beginning to use synth plugins? The sky is the limit.
Thank you, that means a lot! Yes in this one I also use one instance of Ableton’s Wavetable. It’s one of my favourite software synths and it’s also quite gentle on the CPU (compared to 3rd party plugins)
Beautiful! I think this has to be your most developed jam yet with the subs and transitions giving that big melodic tech track feel. Curious how you are integrating the push into your setup and which elements are sequenced in the DAW vs the Elektrons or how you are routing it all?
Thanks a bunch Ryan! So happy to hear that from you. The push basically just triggers Clips and scenes so it is kind of the master device here. It plays a bigger part in the song writing process as I play all midi devices with it (including the 4 tracks on the Digitone). That being said I just use the Digitakt with it’s own sequencer as a loop machine. All other tracks are sequenced by Ableton as it’s easier then to switch scenes.
So good, seems so complex to perform live. Bet you practiced this jam a few times 😅 cheers
Cheers Jase and yeah haha this was quite a bit to prepare. But now it’s in place and I’m building on it - can’t wait to further expand 🙏🏻
amazing!! Does the push also trigger program changes on the elektrons?
Hey SKRD, I'm sending MIDI to the Elektrons which live in different clips in Ableton and the Push triggers the clips. I actually didn't find a good way to send program changes from Ableton to the Elektron boxes
@@MilesKvndrahave you tried with using “bank - -, sub - -, pgm - -“ from the “Launch” control on the MIDI track on Live? I was doing that back in the days with my Digitakt!
Btw, I have your same set-up expect for hardware Reverb and I’m also trying to find a way to have something hybrid since I’ve just got the DN.
@@sabinbadea94 hey Sabin, no I haven’t tried that, did it work for you? I think it would be cool to use something like that as I currently still need to change patterns on the Digis manually. Apart from that I really like this setup and will explore it further in the future, really looking forward to that 💚
@@MilesKvndra do you have an email or something like that where I can write you?! When I’ll come back from work I can make a video and show it to you!
@@sabinbadea94 yeah feel free to hit me up here: miles.kvndra@gmail.com
You really like that microcosm dont you. Love mine great pedal. Try out meris lvx killer mod delay.
Yeah it’s a great pedal indeed! And thanks for the tip will check that out. But for now my setup is complete I think.
@@MilesKvndra ya i mean you cant go wrong even with just using microcosm amazing pedal once you are able to figure out its complexity.
