MY FRIENDS KEEP DYING ON MOTORCYCLES

  • This season, like every motorcycle riding season was full of statistics. These stats included 2 people I met and became friends with for a short time. Unfortunately the reality of dying on a motorcycle is one we have consider every time we go out and ride. But it doesn't make it any easier - especially when it happens to people we know.
Thank you to Progressive Insurance for sponsoring this video.

TLDR: Your videos literally saved my life.
Hey man, I wanted to thank you for your videos and the message you send. I ended up pulling the trigger and buying a bike but thanks to a random video of yours that was on my recommended page, I decided to get a full suit and the best gear I can get, and then spend the remaining budget on a bike. A drunk driver ended up slashing across the freeway into me while I was doing 90 and sent me flying. If it weren't for the gear you recommended I wouldn't still be here today. The message you're promoting and the videos you upload really do save lives. At least you know for sure it saved the life of one 18 year old kid and I want to thank you for that. Keep doing what you're doing and take care of yourself. Cheers.

This is the reason i dont ride past 9pm around 7 to 8pm is when clubs open people are drunk by 7:30pm and gets worse till 4am where the road is filled with drunk drivers. Same thing almost happened to me in my car not my bike and glad your safe. Ride during the day the night is scary.

Started riding when I was 19. A childhood friend and I got our bikes for the first time. He died within six months in a brutal accident. Two years later a casual friend died on a bike. A guy down my street rode drunk and smashed his skull. Survived but was acting weird the last time i saw him. A riding buddy lost his toe low sliding into a corner. Many other incidents I witnessed firsthand.
22 years later I'm still riding and never going to stop.
The great filter of those that become RIDERS and those that move on happens in the first few years.

Wow! Finally, someone said what should be said! Everything I have ever owned and driven has been fast. My first bicycle, 5 speed Stingray. My first car, 67 Buick with a 430 big block. A string of bikes 750cc - 1200cc. My main bike now is a ZL1000A1. The temptation is always there. But I too have lost friends in cars and on bikes. I am always being pushed by people to give it hell, but refuse to give in to their pressure or my need for speed. Play it safe, have some fun, but don't ever let your guard down. I will see my friends soon enough.

This is the biggest reason I got off the street. Had too many people pass away and get hurt and I only rode for 10 months. I bought a dirtbike to stay on 2 wheels and ride track and woods. It's still dangerous but I don't have to worry about all the other people on the streets but still get my fix for 2 wheels.

  • @AccumbensNucleus
    @AccumbensNucleus 11 місяців тому

If you want to go truly fast, sign up for a track day. You will get your fix of "The need for speed" and believe it or not, you will be much safer. No cars, no cops, no kids, no bicycles, no oncoming traffic, corner workers to warn you of trouble, and an ambulance 30 seconds away if you do fall off. *Extremely* unlikely to die on a track day *and* you are going *much* faster than you can continuously go on the street...

Literally why I just sold mine. I ride off road, single track trail riding and also have had a couple of Indian on road bikes. Sold the Indians simply because peoples ability to maintain focus on their driving and not their cell phones these days is at an all time high. I can be responsible for my own variables in the woods.....I can't for some guy or girl liking pics on IG and slamming into me just trying to go to dinner with my wife. All my road bikes were sold.

I rock geico. My experience was a bit different. I got railroaded by a drunk driver. Geico legit handled everything with my attorney. They even sent me all new gear and a new helmet. The other guy was uninsured and had no license or assets. I didn't have uninsured motorist on my insurance, but Geico honored it anyway. I had almost 500K in medical bills and only paid out my deductible and the ambulance fee. It was expensive, but I didn't even complain. The guys in the ambulance (shout out to Care ambulance los angeles) were amazing.

@adobomoto that sucks. Experiences may vary, it seems. Been with them now for about 15 years. We also have AAA as a backup, they have several tow companies that are exclusive to them in the area as well. If one doesn't have availability, the other should.

    • @ArcticDM
      @ArcticDM 11 місяців тому +10

@@adobomotothat's most likely the tow company's fault. They can be pretty sketchy especially with motorcycles. They are dispatched by the insurance companies and are told where to go with the number on file. It's unreal how easy it is to click complete on the tow apps without even having to input pictures or times. I used to work for a wrecker service and not everyone there was trustworthy to say the least.

my youngest son is 24 and had been on a motorcycle since he was 4, just like his older brother, and just like me ( now in my 50s ) a month ago he got clipped by the back of a semi trailer that swerved into his lane on the highway while on his bike. he hit the pavement at over 80mph and was lucky to have not been run over. he suffered a shattered femur and a broken foot and some road rash. His gear saved his life. as a life long motorcyclist, many friends and family have not been so lucky. Keep your head on a swivel and be safe out there, everyone.

Not gonna lie, mototubers don’t speak on losing friends/death on 2 wheels enough. You hear about it, but they don’t stress how serious this 💩 is enough. I kinda understand why, it’s hard to talk about losing people and nobody wants to watch sad content all the time but I don’t think people understand how easy it is to leave on a motorcycle and not come back home. I’ve lost 4 people I knew this year, 1 being a very close friend. It’s to the point where I don’t push people to get a bike anymore, if they chose to ride I commend them but I don’t try to influence people to get one if they’re on the fence. When I lost my friend it took me a few weeks to be myself on the bike again, that’s another thing motovloggers need to cover, coping and getting back on the bike after losing someone

    1. BMW S1000R $1200/year full coverage.
    2. Suzuki GSXS1000 $300/year full coverage.
    3. Suzuki GSXR1000 $2500/year full coverage.

I am a Cancer Survivor. I have one of the worst cancers you can have. T-Cell Aggressive Leukemia. I fought for a year to live and I am in remission. It led me to try riding and I'm so glad I gave it my all. I learned lessons that no person could teach me. And it gave me the opportunity to become a better man. So if you or anyone else you know needs to talk about it with someone who's been through it. Reach out to me. I'm here and so are many other survivors. We stick together.
I also was inspired to be a little more outgoing due to your enthusiasm. While still wearing 1300 worth of Kevlar every time I ride.

I’ve been riding for 10 years I’m 28 I have a 21 S1000RR and let me let the new riders in on some shit, if you ride like an asshole expect things to happen almost daily. Used to be me until I turned 25. Now when I ride I just chill unless there’s literally nobody around…
I’ve only had 1 person almost hit me this riding season the other day by not paying attention, back in the day when I was reckless that was at least 3x a week. The road is not a racetrack or a prepped surface, things can and will happen if you ride recklessly.
Keep the rubber side down and don’t let people push you🫡 also shoutout from Reno, NV 🤙🏽

The risk should, but it can be minimized with proper approach. Many start on the street, instead of some years in the dirt first. The learning curve for mistakes, that will happen, are cheaper on a dirt bike. This will allow learning valuable motor reflexes that need to happen without though when something goes bad on the street that you would never get starting on the street. Once you move to the street, track days are where you learn performance riding, NOT the street. Master braking skill first, never ride speeds faster than you know how to emergency control brake...Some solid advice, if you do jump.

My sister is fighting cancer right now and man she is hitting them lefts and rights atm. I have lost a ton of people in my life and I have not touched a motorcycle in over 20 years and only rode a couple of times, got back into it and was looking for that bike. But I am almost forty which means I can not recover as fast as the young bucks so I got a starter 250cc bike, I know what my next bike will be but I figured giving myself time to set some muscle memory of the low end speed riding before I attempt to get a missile on two wheels!
I know going vroom is amazing but there is always a time, place and safety must always take priority. If your in a parking lot not able to get above 7-15mph there is always less risk but 120,140,200mph? You have to at some point use common sense.

A full face helmet saved my live. I was always an advocate for the full face lid and at the time helmets weren't required by law. but I couldnt comprehend getting hit by a car Im so averse to any car
I am shocked when I see when I see videos of people who ride bikes theyre like all up challenging cars and shit
    it is fucking ridiculous
I understand people like GXRBRAH who ride like this at 180mph and get entertainment out of it
even if I think riding that way is stupid I see why hes doing it
but the amount of people who put themselfs at uness risk at 60-80 by trying to ride near cars
    is insane to me
I know its a possibility that I could get hit by a car myself
but Its much less than a lot of people that ride, and im not even a good rider.

    fellow pinoy
I NEVER UNDERSTOOD why some people are willing to risk their life for the sake of looking cool. Especially here in the philippines...
What's the point of looking cool while riding if you cant even ride anymore cause you're paralized/dead.
My self imposed rule is safety over style. I've had so many "kamote riders" intimidate me by revving their motorcycles (125cc and above -- ESPECIALLY those in the 125cc - 160cc categories) when passing by me or at a stop light and then immediately zoom fast away from me... all for the sake of looking cool in front of me and others.
They're so insecure about their motorcycle (or their PP) that they ALWAYS had to show off and/or prove themselves to compensate ...
I'm not here to race you, I'm here to go somewhere. Hopefully not where you're going. Leave me alone lol.
Then they start crying and asking for donations the moment they get into an accident because they cant afford the hospital bill despite the fact they CAN AFFORD all those motorcycle mods they installed....(for our foreign viewers, that is VERY COMMON here in the philippines)
So its either they bought those with borrowed money (dumb) or they're cheap motorcycle mods (also dumb)
And in both cases, its a lose-lose. Either Borrow money or save up money to look cool while also keeping the bike robust, or cheap out and risk the bike's integrity
Former case: If you get into an accident, you now have to pay the hospital bill (+ the money you owe if you borrowed some)
Later case: You bought cheap stuff and you suffered the consequences
TLDR: I hate people who show off for the sake of showing off.

Wanna increase your chances of surviving a crash and actually walking away with little to no major injuries? Then buy and wear a freaking airbag vest. The technology has only been out since the 90’s and the best riders in n the world wear them while doing 180mph plus on the track. They have what is considered to be the worst crashes and most of the time get up and walk off the track. Ask yourself is Your life worth $600.00 because your don’t want to look uncool wearing it? News flash you should’ve wearing full gear anyway. Do you Like walking and feeding yourself vs having your mother wipe your 25 year old ass forever? Then get a freaking airbag vest and stop fucking around in traffic! There are excellent riders out there who can do it all but odds are that ain’t you, it sure is hell ain’t me.
Get the damn vest and wear it over your gear that should already have armor in it. When doing dangerous things nothing is ever 100%, each piece of this safety gear is to mitigate injuries. Used in conjunction with each other as well as smart riding skills and sound life choices your odds will be better than average rider regardless of their experience.

I'm a motor deputy. So, I am on-call for fatal/major injury collisions that happen in my city. People need to stop purchasing and riding bikes they cannot control. There are too many people who ride way over their ability level, especially on public roads, where one 80 year old lady can not see you and kill you, because you're going double the speed limit. Even if someone pulls in front of you and you're going straight, we can and will put YOU at fault if you were going too fast, because you lose your right of way by going too fast.
Need to tell your homies to stop riding on the road without a license too. We get that all the time. They don't even have a license but are riding with their buddies, who are riding like assholes, and eventually get into a situation they can't recover from and crash. Even if you have had a license for a long time, don't use the public roads to push the limit...
Trust me, I understand as someone who rides a bike for a living. I also have my own personal motorcycle. But I don't speed over 10-15mph over the limit on streets, but yeah I'll go 90-95 on the freeway if traffic is light.
Just wanted to say that because I've seen a lot more dead people due to car crashes than the average person. It's not a good sight when your body is in 30 pieces. Wear a full-face too...

Unfortunately, it's the idiots on UA-cam and instagram etc, who are causing the vast majority of these death by pretending that riding like a twat at 160mph through rush hour traffic is "cool" and what the fraternity expects a rider to be.
The skills of riders now have been falling for years, they just don't understand about riding. You have to be alive and in good shape to experience the thrill of riding, not living 10/10 all of the time
