@@lynnstlaurent6789 I have listened to it 3 times. I have seen her specials and plan to get her book when It's available in my country. I just want more Maria Bamford
Maria has helped veterans trying to break into comedy, and also help them manage PTSD. She's an awesome person, and she's even a pretty great comedian.
She's brilliant in her honesty and I can identify in many ways, this may be one of the most sincere interviews I have ever seen. It's both terrible and amazing to me how much just being honest is so unique. There is no such thing as normal. It's a collective illusion.
I remember seeing her Comedy Central Presents special over 20 years ago when I was in middle school. I had never seen anyone like her before! So weirdly hilarious and such a talented voice. I'm so glad to see her still going strong. She's truly a weirdo, and I love that. ❤
Same. If you got to stay home from school, there would be Comedy Central Presents on in the morning/afternoon. That's where I first saw a lot of comedians.
I’m about to be in my mid 30s and I first fell in love with Maria Bamford in middle school when she would have specials on Comedy Central. A lot of my humor was built on hers. I love how open she’s been with her mental health struggles over the years as I suffer with mental health issues too and it really helped me not feel alone. Thank you Maria for your honesty and humor as it has taken the rough edge of life and softened it a bit. The forced birthers comment killed me 😂💀 If you’re struggling with mental health, you’re not alone and you don’t have to carry all the weight by yourself. You are loved ❤
Maria is literally the best comedian in the world. Untouchable. She's a comics' comic. Thank you Stephen for sharing her with the Dum Dums. She is to your show what Amy Sedaris was to Letterman. Let's keep it that way, or at least get them on at the same time! lol :)
@@missingbitz9831 Lots of comics do impressions and characters, it's not a gimmick it's just a very common style of comedy, even those who don't usually have a "stage" persona and a voice that is somewhat different because comedy is performing and the point is to find a unique perspective thats entertaining. To me her impressions and peppy zany vibe perfectly contrasts the often heavy themes in her acts. You don't need to like it but I think the reason you don't is more to due with misogyny than being an actual discerning comedy fan. Bye now.
I have always loved maria I also appreciate how vulnerable she is. It's hard talking about this stuff but it's nice to not be alone. Her book is great too!
God i love her so much and I am so glad you guys had her on to promote her book! Her book is amazing, so candid and so real, definitely a great read for anyone who likes her material and struggles with mental illness. I love that at one point during the interview, Stephen was so relaxed to rest his elbow on his desk and his face in the hand to talk to her! They are the best, pleaes have her on more often!!
I really, really enjoyed this piece. I felt like Stephen was really funny, and Maria was just fascinating to me. I guess I felt like their chemistry together was charming, and somehow something special. And I was intrigued and relieved that Maria was talking about mental health and mental distress in public because I think that's something that needs to be talked about more. I feel like the secrecy and shame around mental illness just makes things worse. And Maria's impersonation of her mother seemed so hilarious but real. I really liked this.
I came back to the realization Maria is a true comedy OG, and searched her up on YT to find she is still doing fine and well. A real survisor and bringing mental health to the fore front through comedy. She is needed and absolutely matters. I wish nothing but the best for her.
He was being honest. She was SPECTACULAR. Then there was a lull because hello, she had a huge breakdown and the meds made her stumble her words!! A HUGE PART OF COMEDY is carefully placed pauses and inflection..timing! she is doing so much better and she IS amazing! Her bits are genius. I’d love to have dinner with these two. Smart, kind, fun people.
Maria is my favorite. And, she is so open and honest about her struggles.. I've seen most of her work and a few of them were during rough patches, but, by God,, she pulled through allowing us to see that it's okay to be vulnerable in public. She's a tender soul. Love you, Maria! XXOO
I wish netflix would give Maria another series, absolutely loved it.Now I know why some of my family listin to me, being the youngest of 9 ,, thanks mum .
Yeah she talked about how filming a series has pretty grueling schedules and you have so many people on the payroll that depend on you to push yourself. It's hard work even if you don't have several debilitating mental ilnesses and having to deal with the nasty side-effects of the meds like her tremors and being deadly tired. But I agree I always love to see her!
I love love love loooooove Maria!!! I've been taking long walks for the past few days listening to her book and it's so good!! I was just thinking that I'll be sad when I'm finished so I am BEYOND elated to hear she has a new special coming out soon! Can't wait to see it!!
I have loved her comedy for decades. I just appreciate her insights, wit, and delivery. I was aware that she had mental health struggles, and I'm nearly finished with her book now. I'm listening to the audiobook, which she reads, and it is touching and wonderful to hear her tell her story. I continue to wish her good mental and physical health.
Can we have a celebrity Thanksgiving Dinner (with these two) that plays all morning while I’m prepping and running about? I love Macy’s but I would love this more!
The book is a must read and the audiobook is in my top 3 of all time! The way she commented on suicidal ideation and her outlook on suicide is so perfect and truly something that should be heard. I feel like an ad but I mean she’s worth and truly lady dynamite❤ also go mention as someone who spent years of my youth being blamed by my own mental health professionals for my severe anxiety that turned into agoraphobia because of negligence have her be open honest and frank about it and saying the memes are garbage makes me feel seen because I did tell quite a few professionals and people and got nothing for too long
Maria is a hero and an inspiration. She is a comedy role model too. She’s the perfect antidote to a culture that only values people for what the produce and accomplish, yet it’s never enough. I listen to Maria & feel like, hey I’m doing ok.

I've loved Maria Bamford since I was a kid. I didn't know I had mental illness then but a part of me must have always known there was a connection there ❤
I read one of her books and she talks about being on the cover with other influential women and on a lark she asked the make-up artist to give her a black eye and then she forgot about and went to a jewelery store and forgot about the make-up, and she went in and the woman behind the counter said 'Are you ok?' and she said, 'Can you believe it? I'm in love...'
The first time I saw her she did the “Sure I join your cult” bit. All I could think was, “She’s different.” Then I later saw her do an entire set in either dyed brown short hair or a wig in the voice she used for the cultist. There’s no one like her.
I can argue anything, but I can't even begin to argue with Bamfoo being the funniest person in the world. It's just obvious from anyone not suffering a severe rectal-cranial inversion. 🤘🧙♂🤘
