Laurent Ferrier was born on 19th December 1946 in Geneva, Switzerland. Laurent Ferrier grew up in a watchmaking environment as both his parents and grandparents were watchmakers. His father used to work on high-end complications in a shop that was located right below the family’s apartment; thus, at this time, Laurent Ferrier already had the chance to access exceptional timepieces.
Laurent Ferrier studied in the École d’Horlogerie de Genève and graduated in 1968. After completing his watchmaking studies, he joined Patek Philippe in Geneva, with experiences ranging from prototypist watchmaker to being in charge of development creation to the “habillage” - the exterior parts of the watch.
In the early days of his professional life, Laurent Ferrier enjoyed watchmaking but remained really passionate about motor racing. In 1968, at the age of 22, Laurent Ferrier decided to fully dedicate his time to his motor racing passion. He started selling automotive components, with the idea of entering progressively the automotive world and, why not, participating to some motor races.
In 1974, Patek Philippe created a Technical Department and offered Laurent Ferrier to come back. At the age of 28, he went back to work for the famous Manufacture. Later, he became responsible of the Creation Department, while Patek Philippe was located Rue du Rhône, the emblematic place of luxury and watchmaking in Geneva. He worked with Patek Philippe for 37 years. Among many other things, he learned there that everything is a matter of balance and harmony.
A hallmark of each LAURENT FERRIER creation is the harmony he manages to achieve between pure, balanced design inspired by centuries of history and technically avant-garde movements. The idea was to design classical and timeless timepieces, assembled by hand with high-quality materials. Laurent Ferrier had carte blanche, so he seized this opportunity in 2009, at the age of 63.
The very year of the official launch in 2010, LAURENT FERRIER won the award of best men’s watch at the Grand Prix de d’Horlogerie de Genève for the Classic Tourbillon Double Hairspring - it’s very first creation.
Since then, LAURENT FERRIER keeps on demonstrating with integrity its ability to create timeless exceptional timepieces devoid of any superfluous detail, with a pure aesthetic. Time should once again have no hold over his collection that displays an authentic sense of detail.
Today, Laurent Ferrier and his son, Christian Ferrier, work together at the Creative Department, while François Servanin remains the President...

The best thing about LF is that they offer ultra luxury timepieces even in stainless steel and the movements are stunning! Especially the Galet micorotors are absolutely beautiful!
Thanks for sharing your passion with us!
Beautiful Video, amazing brand! I love the personal approach 🙌🏼
Isn’t it beautiful to have a face to a name? 🙌🏻
Laurent Ferrier is one of the few high horology brands i genuinely think deserves their asking price.
It seems so… the +/- 500 pieces they manufacture are always sold out…
I actually disagree. I think they’re beautiful, artisan pieces, but I cannot believe what they sell for on the secondary market. Especially since these pieces have almost no complications. No shade against Laurent and the good people of the brand, but boy I think they’re asking for too much per piece.
Thank You Alexander, Great Master, Top Video !

The best possible content for the best audience in the world!
We love this video, love the French, the introduction of the Camera Man and OF COURSE THE WATCHES, great Content Alexander!!
I am very happy to read this! Thanks for the kind words…
I've been a big fan of Laurent Ferrier watches for years.
Great video.
Which one is your favorite?
@@WatchAdvisor Of the current lineup, likely the Square Micro Rotor Blue. I like the case shape and details, and it’s a shape that few other manufacturers (excepting Panerai and a few others) are using at the moment. Like you said, the relative anonymity of LF is a plus these days…in a sea of hyped and ubiquitous status symbol watches.
Thanks 🙏🏻 for sharing! I hear you…
Awesome video, thank you very much for the beautiful content.
You are very welcome, we are happy to read this!
Absolutely fantastic! Laurent Ferrier is my grail watch manufacturer, the Galet Traveller Night Globe Blue or North American cloisonné dial. Every piece this gentleman designs is exquisite and stunning. I adore the connections to Patek Phillipe , Roger Dubuis (especially the early Hommage and Sympathie models), and of course to motorsport. I would love to own the LF Sport also with that phenomenal rotor! Travail phénoménal Monsieur Ferrier, vous créez un art qui peut être apprécié au quotidien, absolument manifique!
Thanks for sharing your passion and thoughts with us! I am sure Jessica, Head of PR, will read here and transfer your compliments to Laurent…
Laurent Ferrier. If you know, you know. There are more than 3x as many Journes on the market. LF is more exclusive and if you own one you will recognize the value and not let it go as easily. Great video.
I have written it before… it is quiet wealth, stealth luxury… something I very, very much like… Thanks for sharing your passion with us!
Unbelievable beautiful watches.
Thanks for sharing your passion with us! Which one is your favorite?
@@WatchAdvisor The Classic Origin with the blue dial is my all time favourite. The perfect watch.
Thank you for a wonderful video. So glad you brought in the racing background - I never stop admiring the beauty, grace, elegance and comfort in wearing my classic ice blue micro rotor- i tend to have one or two pieces from many brands (FPJ, KV, RG, Strehler, Gronefeld, Patek) and I know that i will own multiple LFs - the design language is so consistent and beautiful - thanks for a wonderful video
Thanks for sharing your passion with us and your kind words…
Inspiring story!!
Only life can “organize” such marvelous adventures…
Merci Alexander pour la découverte de cette belle marque et en français en plus !
Merci de partager notre passion et merci pour le gentil feedback.
Love these types of videos. Thank you to Laurent's team for letting you guys show off the magnificent finishing and assembly work. Absolutely stunning.
I really enjoyed my day with Laurent and we are happy that you like the video….
My favourite brand bar none. I am very fortunate to have a Classic Origin and am hoping to add a natural escapement model when circumstances permit. Beautifully designed and beautifully made. Excellent video.
Thanks for sharing your passion with us! May your “Classic Origin” continue to always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours…
It's a shame they don't utilize natural escapement in all their watches.
@@chia-mingyang5804 I actually like that they have different movements. The swiss lever escapement in the Classic Origin is very good, and a lot cheaper than the natural escapement models, yet still in a beautifully made package.
Another dimension, beautiful timepieces!
And on top of that… stealth luxury… quiet wealth…
@@WatchAdvisor 👍
Fantastic video, Alexander 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Love to read that, thanks 🙏🏻
Beautiful neoclassical elegance, brilliant engineering, and magnificent artisanal craftmanship: in short, as close as watches get to horological perfection! Bravo, Laurent Ferrier!
As written before… I am sure Jessica, head of PR, reads here… she will forward your comment to Laurent … Thanks for sharing!
great content
Thank you very much
These are superb highly refined pieces for the connoisseur collector at the high end of horology. Such gorgeous movements I’m sure they are inspected for hours by their owners and admired. That copper dial is a stand out piece for me. Just beautiful.
If you choose to buy and wear a LF you know what you do… you understand what it needs to build such a masterpiece… you will appreciate it…
LF has been on my radar since running into another Watch enthusiast with it at a restaurant several years ago. It’s understated luxury that is rare these days.
Not all brands that claim to manufacture “luxury watches” are rare… Laurent Ferrier though is… it is a watch for a connoisseur and not to show off…
Ciao Alexander, top video as usual!
I am happy tinted this!
I never heard about the brand, but I like it. The simple, accurate watch is very nice, in my opinion. Some of his designs are nice, and some less. Definitely, I like very much the idea of small, high-class manufacturers that bring new life and innovations to the world of mechanical watches.
Great video of a super underrated brand 👏
Let us be honest... if you work 37 years in a leading watchmaking position at Patek Philippe you know how to build movements and watches...
@@WatchAdvisor 💯
Alexander you are on a row - BRAVO!!! First MBnF now Laurent Ferrier - awesome run, keep it up - we really appreciate it. Please do one for Urwerk.
URWERK is not yet planed … thanks for your request… we will see what we can do during the year…
Hello Alexander, once more top notch video, with a good insight into this very interesting brand. Not too long just the right length footage. Well done! My favourite is the ' Classic Origin' with white dial. I could handle it in the titanium, the polished case is really nice and I absolutely adore the hands and dial. I'm surprised about your excellent French, not so common for Austrian;-). I wish the English-speaking watch content creators would make more effort in pronouncing French names. It is sometimes hilarious. Cheers from Switzerland. Daniel
Daniel, thanks for sharing your thoughts & passion with us. Thanks for your compliments, that’s very much appreciated!
Fantastic video and great insight in haute horlogerie micro brand like Laurent Ferrier! It is always refreshing to see this kind of 'old school' watchmakers.
Small & beautiful… silent wealth & stealth luxury…
Love the brand!
Me too! Thanks for sharing!
One of my favorite independents, he is such a great guy and truly knows how to pull at the heartstrings of the watch community. Keep up the incredible creativity they are all stunning!
True! True! True! Thanks for sharing!
Great video Alexander. What a stunning brand and such excellent attention to detail.
Couldn't agree more! I also love the fact that there is not only a phantasy name (with or without history) on the dial…
Very informative video. It was great to see watchmakers practicing their craft.
Guys like Laurent can't stop being creative and busy...
Alexander, thank you for the interview. Great episode. As you are aware, I am in the United States. I would love to see these timepieces. They look absolutely beautiful.
laurentferrier.ch/pages/resellers maybe there is a reseller close to your location…
I'm not so big into independents, aside from a few microbrands, due to mostly cost and overall design and style, but Laurent Ferrier has always been one of the few haute horology brands where I can actually justify the cost and where the design resonates with me, being a lover of more things classical, less things modern. Thanks for the great interview!
I hear you! Have you seen what Laurent and his team presented this year? We will later this year film these watches and show them to you…
Just came across this video. Awesome content. Thank you.
LF is a fascinating brand, the designs are not so much over the top but elegant and classy. The movements are super and highly finished and decorated. True heaven for real watch enthusiasts. It is a bit shame they don't get the right media attention other brands get and I think they need to focus on marketing a bit.
Thanks for sharing our passion!
Hi Alexander, congratulations for this super-interesting video! Probably the best so far! Laurent Ferrier is a truly superb niche brand, thanks a lot for covering it!
Thank you very, very much, I am happy to read this....
Well doesn't Mr Laurent Ferrier come across as a lovely guy, very humble and down to earth! 👍The Sport Auto is probably my favourite watch. I was on a waiting list and got the call about 6 months before I expected and had to turn it down as I would have had to of sold a chunk of my collection to get it. I didn't even go to see it as I knew I would of been hooked and it did not make financial or watch collecting sense to me. I gaze at pictures of it often 😔
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and passion with us! I am sure there will be another occasion… we keep our fingers crossed 🤞🏻… Please keep us posted!
Thank you, I shall. On the other end of the spectrum I just got a beautiful CWC mil spec diver 👍and couldn't be happier. I also couldn't resist the Certina DS Super PH1000M with orange dial (just a fun watch) however the minute hand is a wee bit small 🤔@@WatchAdvisor
Love the fact that you are open minded… also interested in such watches … Bravo! It is all about passion…
Do they offer a watch with 10bar? 🙏🏼
The sports watches are waterproof up to 120 meters…
@@WatchAdvisor nice 👍🏻
This such a great video as always Alexander I love how simple but very passionate the brand is imagine they made it work with such very humble work shop and produces very beautiful time pieces.
When passion is the driving force… success is more or less guaranteed…
Alexander as an owner of LF, this was a great interview of an humble man. Hope youve been well!
Thanks for sharing your passion with us! May your LF continue to always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours …
I’d love to see Alex to review all the sport auto and grand sport in 1 comprehensive clip.
That is a tough one… you first need to get hands on all these watches…
I personally only like the Classic Origin, the other models are not my style. But taste aside, the finish and craft are right up there with the best watchmakers
Thanks 🙏🏻 for sharing! So true… tastes are different… but the quality 🤩
Wonderful, Alexander! I’ve been a fan of this man’s watches and approach for a long time…so great to hear the details from him and see the production process. More on these beautiful timepieces please!
My pleasure! Good to know that you guys like such stories…
Awesome video. LF is one of my favorite brands, definitely a grail watch for me. Actually the daytime enamel dial Traveler is my ultimate grail. I don't think I've ever seen this much behind the scenes there. Wow and the first LF ever? Its a turbillon of course. This is one of the reasons I like this brand so much, they do not put the turbillons on the dial. Its for the owner. I love that. Great video, thanks!
Laurent Ferrier stands for less is more… for quiet wealth… Thanks for sharing!
Great video! I like seeing the watchmaking details.
We are happy to read this! Thanks!
Bravo, Alexander! Most excellent video and effort to bring this to us. It is so good to see behind the scenes how a modern production successfully strives to create such classical designs and classical fabrication. Superb content and presentation!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts & passion with us and for the super kind feedback!
Fantastic 😊
This Man and his company remind me of the Brabham Racing team.
Inspired creation, based on a dream.
Mmmm i noticed all those beautiful GREEN Dials are sold out 😊
🎉
The motto was and is: never stand still… Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!
LF just makes stunners! and unlike PP or AP they offer high end timepieces in stainless steel as well! Aesthetically pleasing and technically brilliant!
Gold/platinum cases generate a higher margin... that's why... I do also like steel cases very much. In the 1990s I bought the IWC "Da Vinci" in steel and I paid almost the sam as for a gold version... It was from a very small lot in steel made for the Italian market...
Really interesting video they make really great and gorgeous pieces
Thanks for sharing your passion with us….
Hallo Alexander! I'm having choosing between a Laurent Ferrier, Lang und Heyne, and A Lange und Soehne! In your experience, which of these brands have the most amount of hand work involved in the movement finshing, and value for money?
Thanks for sharing your passion with us! These watches are eye to eye… the only criteria is the design… tastes are different… you choose… let your heart decide it won’t lie…
It is not only the amount of hand finishing -- the quality of such finishing is as important. Based on personal experience under the microscope, Ferrier and Lang & Heyne are far above Lange when it comes to quality hand finishing. Ferrier excels in sharp interior and exterior angles, Lang & Heyne excels in the snailing of wheel surfaces: different types of finishing techniques but brilliantly executed. Both brands offer great value for money when compared to movements of overhyped brands that cost much more and are mostly machine finished.
@@josephknecht4272 well said! Although, personally, I can never get enough of the Lange zeitwerk / datograph movements. You are right of course, in that, L&H and Ferrier are absolute class! At the end of the day, I think it is very hard to "pick" the best of the pack since there really is no clear winner!
And then, wait till you see what the Japanese are doing in Grand Seiko's Micro Artist Studio-- I will go far and compare it to Dufour's finishing with much ease. Why? Because Dufour taught them, and no one learns better than them!
@@abdulsohuI would say the Credor Eichi II probably has the best finishing per dollar among these choices.
@@chia-mingyang5804 absolutely, the Micro Artist Studio is second to none.
Amazing!!
Thanks!!
Extraordinary video. Are all outsourced parts made in Switzerland? Beautiful time pieces. Thank you.
Thanks for your kind comment… Of course!!
Very nice; however expensive...
Everything is done by hand…
Awsome content
Thanks!
LF is as good as it gets. Imagine the brand if a rapper or singer started wearing the watch.
Won’t happen! Under the radar… stealth luxury, quiet wealth…
Nice content. Hope you do other independent brands
Thanks for your kind feedback… we are working on it…
I like the movement, the finishing of it, the dial as well, but the bracelet and the watch case are awful. my two cents.
Many others like it… tastes are different…
Hahahahhaha
What is so funny????
Laurent is the *pleasant* watchmaker who won't learn English. Par contre: FPJ.
There is no need for him to better learn English... He speaks quite fluent, but wasn't comfortable doing it in front of the camera...
guarantee that he knows English, it's a stylistic and marketing choice to speak French. It's like Horacio Pagani speaking Italian despite being fluent in English. and I respect their choice
