I think you're reading Goblin Negotiation wrong and that's why you're overrating it. You only get the Goblins for excess damage. Your scenario where you spend 7 to kill a 5 toughness doesn't give you two goblins. You'd have to spend 9 no?
Well, I read it correctly in the set review, I just didn't describe it correctly in the video -- not sure that's better, though! Because I know how it works and still somehow thought it would be okay haha
@32:04 - The goblin is better than the elf I think because you can still play the elf and 2nd goblin on 3, then the 5 drop on 4 and be in the same situation, but the elf was exposed to less removal and the goblin might be able to attack on 3 depending what they play.
I think in the angel/cat collector game you’re incentivized the throw the giant under the bus early and make them use their trick, you probably have better recursion and a chance at drawing removal but leaving the engine on board potentially puts you further and further behind and baiting the trick takes the guesswork out of playing around it 🤔. Your deck also has a chance at a more potent late game than UW skies/lifegain.
Intersting set. I have played seven drafts and been killed with a few different cards multiple times. A little unbalance. I have been playing since 93.
My first draft i am 2-2, i got letline axe out 3 of those games, and it got destroyed in those 3. For a format with very little artifact destruction i was shocked everytime.
I just drafted two etali's in a red green deck this morning was able to play it a few times but i never got to activate it so that makes me a little sad but i went two and 1 so i will take it
After getting really good records in duskmourn, I’ve been completely trounced in Foundations draft and wondering what I’m doing wrong. There’s certainly just… my own terrible luck this set (or rather, my opponent’s better luck), but I’m wondering if I’m missing something about this set that’s different to typical standard drafts? I’ve had several 0-3 runs which is unheard of to me previously
One thing that I have noticed is simply that I level up my league and start playing harder opponents. I always do really well when I'm bronze and silver and then reach higher leagues and get a reality check.
We’re opposites. Duskmourne is my worst format of all time, and I’ve been killing it in Foundations. Edit: worst as in worst record. I still really liked drafting Duskmourne.
Well on one hand, this is set feels very old school in the way it drafts (thats not a bad thing really), good chunk of the times sinergy should be ignored in search of card quality and removal just feels better this set, there are not that many etb's plus a 12/8 vanilla can just end games on it's own here. Duskmourn, and blumburrow also, were extremely synergistic, like draft tends to be lately. I did ok in duskmourn and pretty well in blumburrow, but i'm killing it in foundations. So my take away is, when drafting ignore what the color pair of the set is asking you and start taking the better looking cards in a vacuum, play simpler decks, also pick removal very highly it's amazing this set. For example i played a 7-1 simic ramp deck without a single landfall card, as long as you resolve a haymaker you are onto something, also don't let theme limit you and pick good cards, i played a selesnya deck with almost no counter synergy but a lot of good efficient creatures and flyers, and it went 7-2. Sure, if you manage to land on the strength of your color pair is even better, but if you ain't landing those payoffs or the theme ain't that strong on it's own (4 power and flyers are strong on their own, life gain and spells aren't) it's better to just adapt to what you have, the archetypes are broad enough to allow that, and so unfocused that their synergies arent that strong either way unless you really load them in. I'm currently playing a dimir flyers with 12 flyers instead of an azorious list even though i got 2 imperial eagles in the draft because i have a lot stronger black cards, and it's currently doing 5-0. As always though, luck is a factor, so maybe you are having a bad strike or poor matchmaking, keep going at it!
Do you watch draft videos and give advice or rate peoples draft? I would love to submit some stuff. If I’m gonna get better at drafting this is the set to do it.

That curve from elf to felling blow into ooze was perfection, especially with the regrower for backup.
Congratulations on your first 7 wins draft that I see of this set. Best of luck for future drafts.
I just got to seven wins with a Rakdos Raid deck. I didn't think it was actually THAT good.
Rakdos? Should be smakdos, smack dos hoes!

Yep.
Its basically an overcosted plain X-Burnspell with the added upside of beeing able to turn excess mana into 1/1s

I have rarely seen an "get x for excess damage"-spell really being good in limited... Or am I missing one? Hell to pay, maybe 🤔
@geronimo8159 Torch the Witness was pretty good
great draft and great result. congrats !
Nice to see some good old fashioned drafts after … whatever duskmourn was
My friend Etalied into Etali in a game of commander tonight. Darn Henzie
Spicy, spicy deck. Great draws. Always fun to see Etali go off
Also elves are great. Early win conditions.
This was fun thanks.

@@ElPanadero18 same man, I couldn't win a game in Duskmourn for the life of me. Only 7s with Foundations

My takeaways of the format:
Synergy is everything.
Lifegain is legit and a threat.
The power level is HIGH.
I disagree pretty hard with 1 and 3.
The power level isn't high, it's just that small creatures become useless after a single turn.
17 lands and two elves? I predict manaflood!
In a deck with several 6 drops, I think you kind of have to.
Frenzied Goblin seems underappreciated to me.
