Joseph Cornell - American Eccentric - Mindscape of a Genius

- Join me as we journey into the world of Joseph Cornell, who travelled the world, without leaving his doorstep in Queens. He trawled the junk stores looking for gems and exotic ephemera that would eventually became part of his “mindscapes” - three-dimensional representations of his imagination.
He built up a vast private museum from his excursions, like a magpie bringing home glittering treasure. Afternoons and weekends, Joseph roamed 1920s New York meticulously rummaging through dark and dusty dens filled with old bric-a-brac.
Joseph Cornell never left his house in Utopia Parkway, never got to see the European countries he admired so much, and never married, He poured out all his passions into his “boxes”.
I present to you a true American eccentric.

Beautiful totally represents your channel ❤️
@@kellybaird6374 thank you 😊
When you left UA-cam... or shall I say used UA-cam as a secondary platform, I was bummed I have been stuck I am hiding from my husband in a town I do not like , last year I had my right knee replacement and this year I shall have my left .. so getting a job has been out of the question ..
Your channel has brought me so much joy and when you added your voice and comantary to your videos I enjoyed it even more .
I will do my best to join it's just money is so very tight , even a pack of gum has to be really thought about before buying..
@@kellybaird6374 Sorry about your toxic masculinity/stalker husband, what a drag - We’re watching a series on Netflix about stalkers at the moment, God there’s so many of those losers.
Also sorry about your knee problems, I hope you’re up and about again real soon.
I realise this is not the best solution for a People on a tight budget, but I just can’t be bothered with UA-cam’s crap anymore.
Where are his works of art now?! I'd love to see them.
That seems to be a great prize! Somebody will be pleased to win.
Dearest Oddie....your videos are akin to fabulous art, divinely eloquent and so minutely executed,I won't be surprised anything you create will be much sought after,as everything you execute exudes class! My lovely grandmother always said money talks, wealth whispers, elegance is silent....you epitomize elegance.

Hello from Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 🍁
Hello there!
A friend told me that some of my mixed- media reminded him of Joseph Cornell . I'd never heard of him & looked him up online & now he became one of my favorite 20th Century artists.👍
Hi Oddie! Loved your shadow box. Your very talented. 🍺😎🍺
That’s very kind of you Valerie, thank you 😊
Such a wonderful channel 😀
Thank you 😊
Your piece is fantastic...someone is going to own a very special work of art.
Joseph Cornell's work fascinates me. I could (and have) spend hours looking at every little detail of them. I've found some very well photographed images of his work, although they probably don't come close to the impact of seeing the actual pieces would have.
I appreciate that Terri, thank you so much 😊

He would've been my best friend. What a fascinating fellow.
Very nice

I remember having a Cornell box assignment in high school art class in the early 2000’s. I made a serial killer box with teeth, hair, and a stolen lamb brain from science class. I’m sure it’s at my mom’s house somewhere….
Well I'm 4 months too late, so I couldn't win a thing 😭 I really loved your artwork box too. Hope whoever won it cherishes it as much as I would have.
That’s a lovely compliment, thank you so much!
You might find this fellow interesting. I believe I heard of Cornell through him. Like your piece.
Ooooo it’s beautiful Oddie, “I need, I need! This in my life”. Look forward to hearing from you on your next video. 😃
Thanks so much! 😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hello Oddie. Hope you all are doing well. Did you see that they solved the Somerton mystery of the body on the beach? Just wanted to share that info. As always stay safe my friend.
Yes I knew about that, you stay safe too my friend.
Hey Oddie. This looks quite interesting. I discovered a strange world of Art boxes in by Societ Era filmmaker Sergei Parajanov in my video called 'From Tbilisi Georgia To Yerevan Armenia - Sergei Parajanov Museum'. More inspiration here.
Cheers I’ll check it out 😉
OddBoxGOOD!
I am French, what a pity that your videos are not accessible to subtitles? hello from Paris.
Some of the videos are subtitled in French, but not all of them, it is a work in progress - usually the full length videos, and not a competition/trailer like this.
@@ObsoleteOddity oK merci monsieur.
I have now put French subtitles for you 😉
@@ObsoleteOddity Merci beaucoup , in advance, happy holidays.
*Achilles Rizzoli* might make a good little investigation/story for you to tell, Mr. Odd.
-eccentric like Cornell, but, well, go have a look.
It would be an interesting story, and I do like his art - but there is not enough about his life that I can find, that would be enough for me to make a whole video.
