My parents had good friends whose daughter and son-in-law bought a new SS396 Nova. I never realized that the Nova could be ordered with the 396 since the brochure listed the 350 as the largest engine available.

I had a 1969 Nova SS 350, close ratio 4 speed, 336 diff. black interior buckets 7 1/2 "ralley rims painted in hugger orange from the factory. The salesman said it was painted on the end of a Corvette line. That was in Terrace BC in 1969.

He's right that the Nova SS was the first GM car to have Disc brakes as standard. At the 02:19 mark you cane see the ribbed extentions on the outer part of the front next to the headlight which was a design from the 1967 full size Chevy from the Biscayne up to the Caprice.
The Caprice in 67 had those corner sections as Running lights and turning lights with an amber bulb inside the white lens with just the ribbed housing .
Not many cars and steal a design feature from just a 1-year run and then carry it forward about 5 years and not be stale .

I went right back to 69 with you Lou. I dreamed of this exact car when in my teens, perhaps in blue though. I'm surprised they had those smog pumps in 69, except on California cars, I always thought that damn thing did not appear until the mid 70s. And like you say, it came off my 73 Caprice the first week I owned it, disabled that stupid EGR also. The amazing thing was this car did better on the smog tests than my 78 Camaro with all the smog gear intact. This car is just too perfect to drive unfortunately, would have to put it in my livingroom....

This is one of the cleanest restoration I've ever seen, the only missing part it's some racier rims. This car is special for me because this was one of the most popular (and still is) "muscle car" of Argentina when I was a kid, even when the "Chevy" coupe SS (that was the name GM called it) had only a six cilinders engine of 250 CI !!, so sad that they never brought here a V8 model. The only V8 (Ford Fairlane 4 doors aside) in my country was the Dodge GTX 2 doors that had a unique and very nice bodywork with a "little" 318 engine for your standars, but it was the most powerful car in that era with 230 hp !!. So sad again, that Chrysler never brought here a 340, 383 or a 440...
pd.: with that soft look (and that rims...) and a 396 under the hood, it's a true "sleeper"

I remember that Nova when I'd see it in Beverly Hills Cop 3..the 3rd generation that has Axel Foley..a faded blue one. If I don't remember wrong there was a v6 with 194/230/250ci and a 4cyl inline with 153ci..a base model but I like small engines too.. The car was moved recently in the past year and has disappeared. Last I saw it ...It was holding rain water. Hopefully someone who will do something with it got it. Dan the guy who owned it didn't care much. But this is what I always pictured in my head when I looked at it. What a fine Specimen ! Lou, I had a Nova - a '71 to be exact - that looked just like this one except mine was factory beige with a beige interior. Talk about "plain Jane"! Mine had the 307 with a Powerglide(eww) tranny. It used plenty of LEADED regular gas and used a lot of it due to the Powerglide. Gasoline prices or thirstiness of your car was not a concern in the early '80's when I had it. But mine was practically a Xerox copy of that one except color - and engine of course.

Great presentation of a great classic, Lou! Loved the Hugger Orange, which was legitimate after all. Hey, not to sound like a nitpicker, but while I didn't count how many time you said it, you did use the exclamation "Wow!" an awful lot in this one. Kind of got tiresome. Maybe spice it up in the future with some alternates like, "Cool!' or "Great!" or "Fantastic!" (Maybe I am a nitpicker). Nah, I'm just a grumpy old man. Keep up the good work, Lou!

You know those engines are a real smorgasbord of internal hot rod parts - depending on who the engine builder was that day. Because sometimes they'd just grab a part that was laying around taking up space. So you might get an L78 with a ZL1 cam in it for example.

I don’t know where you got your info about this car, but it’s way off
This car is most defiantly not anywhere near original
as for it being a factory SS
There is simply no definite way to tell prior to 1972 on a Nova
Unless you have a verified build sheet there is no way of knowing what color the car originally was

Lou and Mike my mind has been own completely OFF! hugger orange? oh my goodness, oh my gracious! auto or not, 396 o.k. I've heard thingz.. it's not as durable as the 327. you open it up upon the open road. its not a block that was able to be abused locally at lights, from what i've heard. it was installed in a number of SS types that evaporated. something to do with the bore and stroke in the limits of a small block GM. 350s still abound. its one to buy, park & show! not a daily driver, by any means. museum piece all the way.
