2cm is a little low for the cap, its not good to plant the plants directly into the soil, rather let the roots find their way into the soil to absorb the nutrients on their own
Hi sir, this is very beautiful! And a well made video. One peice of advice, I've made something similiar and I found that the cap on top of the soil needs to be thicker than the layer of soil. Otherwise over time the soil expands and goes into the water, which is not good.
you used normal garden soil? can i use vermi compost? any reason you replaced water after adding soil and sand for first 2 days? I just realised you from Turkey.. i hope you all right?
yes, I used normal garden soil, I did not try vermi compost, min 50% water change is necessary to remove the accumulation in the water. evet istabuldayım , teşekkürler
Great set up 🌺 I wonder if this method can be used in setups with un uneven bottom??? Like, can I create a hill/ridge at the background and have a similar effect??? 🤔
@@ceyhunderindere OWWWWW like in the landscape design 🤔 Good thing I asked, was not sure if this is the case with aquascaping - almost no one used support/walls in UA-cam tutorials 🤔🤔🤔
It's been over a year but what I think they mean by support is in reference to the sand, if you build a hill of dirt and then put sand on top you run the risk of the sand just rolling down and exposing the dirt. Exposed dirt is BIG no no in Walstad tanks, because the rich dirt will leach many nutrients and chemicals to your water that would make life for fish and plants pretty much impossible. So that, keep the dirt capped with sand.

Literally muted your video and pulled up some Debussy in another window because the stock audio was honestly terrible lol. Sorry
Please do an update video on this project. Does the tank still exist?
Except for a few aquariums, the others are constantly changing, unfortunately this is not one of them.
Why are changing the water so often?
garden peat contains heavy load
How do you avoid getting biofilm on the top of the tank?
If there is fluctuation on the water surface, it will go away over time.
How did you prevent algae ?
more water changes and excel carbon

I made the error of an overly shallow soil cap and recently had to take that tank apart. Apparently a substrate depth of 2+ inches is more effective
