I've worked out the best way to treat this is starve the system of water. The problems began a few years back when it was invaded with grey-green algae, which the watercress doesn't like.
I drained the first tank, and let the water simply run along the bottom to the plug hole, but though the water in the 'tank', a rectangular concrete trough, stayed clear when it was allowed to fill after 6 months empty...so drying it out seems to kill the algae.
I will need to do the same with the 4 or 5m long channel though, as the algae is back....I'll fit a hose to the outlet, running to the end of the channel where it goes into an underground pipe. Once dried out, I'll clean the channel, then at the end of 'summer' remove the hose and see what happens.

Are the parasites in the plants or on the plants? If on, could just wash or vinegar soak make produce safe?

Is there a stage of the fluke that looks like a 30mm long brown leech, living in flowing water? My house is spring fed, and the overflow runs to a spout, then into a rectangular concrete trough, then into a watercress channel, stone lined, about 4m long.
I cleared the trough today and found several of these leech type things....I assumed they were simply worms but they move by suckering on at one end and extending the other, like a caterpillar.
    What do you think?
