- A group of renters in Lethbridge, Alta. are in limbo after Alberta Health Services issued multiple closure and work orders for an apartment complex.
Currently there are five active work orders in place, spanning back to May 2023. The orders include flooring, drywall, and electrical problems, with two-unit closures in effect as of April 3, 2024.
“With the current situation with AHS, obviously there’s a standard of living that is not being met here,” said resident and former property manager Sherida Scott.
Tabetha Dolan attempted to rent a unit last year, but the day she was supposed to move in, she says the unit was in deplorable condition.
“It was gross is all I can describe it as, there was animal feces on the ground, mouse droppings everywhere," said Dolan.
As Global's Sarah Jones reports, despite residents complaining they say nothing is being done.

Scumlord needs to be charged
Yes it costs thousands to do repairs. He's raking in hundreds of thousands. Slum lord is what we used to call these people but now they're savy investors.
Doubtful
We need way more accountability in this country.
My landlord rented his house in a very bad conditions and he told me before the entry day that he going to repair and útil now he didn’t do anything thing. When I call him to at least fix the kitchen cabinets because all are broken he told me if what to stay like this or we can go and find another place. Therefore, I have been looking another place, but in nowadays it’s very hard to find a good place to live. This is in Calgary.🥺🥺🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Need better laws
Yup Indian Slum Lord based out of Surrey.
Omg. Why am I not surprised. Awful individual to allow this. I’m hope there are consequences. People get sick living with n these horrible conditions.
But I don’t get this, why do these people do this? If he’s a landlord doesn’t he technically own those properties? Wouldn’t he care about his investments? Just doesn’t make sense why they do this
This is the state of Canadians are living in and the institutions that are truly unequipped to do the really hard work the land lord is at fault why threaten a tent for making repairs and is this land lord owning property that he now he needs to fix but gets the money but threatens infection to any tent with a problem with their home their is something wrong with this picture I now materials are expensive but throwing a tent out is truly disgusting because you can’t manage money to fix it right or just stop being a landlord to anyone this looks real bad for Canada that’s a black eye.
um, it's TENANT, not tent
The landlord should go to jail. Is there anything worse than an absentee landlord?
Asking the Prime Minister to intervene…that’s rich. Mentally ill and wealthy foreign landlord, best of luck everyone
They own us now, through serfdom, and we are on the hook for their unpaid taxes! What a fair system we got
My grandsons rented a illegal type basement suite off a guy in Calgary..just a dark cavern, he gave them notice saying he was renovating to sell, and he took their security deposit with no explanation. These young men didn't know they could report him for taking the security deposit. I guarantee he rented it for a higher rent.
That's sad how this could happen
The place keeps flooding out the management just gets there people to clean the place and then rents it out to someone else for a higher rent till it floods out again it's flooded three times with the renters blamed each time
maybe they should give him 100,000 dollar fine per week see how fast he will fix it lol
Asking the Prime Minister to intervene. Lol, because he doesn't agree with the standard set by AHS for livable units. Im a slum lord, I dont want fix my places, I just want the money.
Bc he comes from a caste system and thats what he expects to indulge in here. This is feudalism 2024
Least we aren't speaking German am I right! lol
People that wreck their rentals, should be put in jail. But instead we feel sorry for this group of bums. Its another crime in canada that goes unpunished.
That looks like the Beverly area townhouses, boardwalk is a slum , I lived in two boardwalk apartments and I have nightmares absolutely nightmares of living in them. They did that to me eviction notice for complaing about tenants threatening me daily ! Bedbugs and mice and cockroaches ants. Constantly, bursting pipes in the building. Your cupboards and floors are awful, I could go on.
happens alot. I have afew cases with forgien landlords whom abuse the system. in several cases, I had to link, rtdrs, AHS, Planning and development, as well as the police (as all 4 agencies are used in disputes.), all to deal with illegal units, bedbug and mice, ext. in AB from 2019->2021.
His name is Govind Reddy what do you expect..!!!! another east indian property slum lord. LIke without even asking for the name I know what sort of people run these properties. Its completely sickening...
Bringing that caste system for revenge. Its called zemandari system, where the landlord oppresses tenants
Casual racism reflects much worse on you.
Not only does it not fix the problem it can make it worse.
Slum landlord needs to be charged. What a guy.
This is pretty much all of edmonton rentals unless paying upwards of 4k month
Landlord probably also overwhelmed by trash tenants as long as they pay
Mainstreet calgary does the same
Guarantee that thelandlord isn't burned in canada...
I live in Calgary housing thanks for getting me off the street!!! But my place is a hole!!! But warm and dry and the stove and fridge work! Bed bugs, cockriue
😅 should call Infinity services to fix it.
Derka derka derka
😮😮😮😮😮
If they moved into these places, knowing that they were in the condition, I don’t see how they could put the blame on the homeowner or landlord if it’s not fixed don’t move in playing simple
Um, because he told them these repairs would be done by the date they moved in. As one lady explained, she showed up on moving day, with all of her belongings in a UHaul, and nothing was finished. Times are tough, what do you expect people to do if they incur the costs to pack up and move, hire a truck, on the promise that their unit will be in move-in condition, only to find out they were lied to and it's not? It's not like you can just snap your fingers and find another place to rent on a moment's notice. Rentals are hard to come by, especially affordable ones these days, or did you not know that?
@@moondancer334 if they’re not don’t move in it’s pretty simple
Yes, always the tenants fault, never the land baron
@@moondancer334funny how that "times are tough" line never extends to landlords.
@@frankvonfrauner Sure, times can be tough for landlords, too, but not to slumlords. If you can't maintain your rental properties and provide clean, safe, well-maintained properties to your tenants, then expect to be called out - like in this story.
