- THE POST OFFICE TOWER (now known as the BT Tower) (1964)
The BT Tower is a communications tower located in Fitzrovia, London, and has been previously known as the Post Office Tower, Thames TV Tower, the London Telecom Tower and the British Telecom Tower.
The main structure is 177 metres (581 ft) high, with a further section of aerial rigging bringing the total height to 191 metres (627 ft). Commissioned by the General Post Office, its primary purpose was to support the microwave aerials then used to carry telecommunications traffic from London to the rest of the country.
The tower was designed by Eric Bedford and G. R. Yeats, chief architects of the Ministry of Public Building and Works. The building is concrete clad in glass - an architectural hallmark of its time.
WHAT MAKES IT GREAT… Until its closure in 1981, the BT Tower featured London’s only revolving restaurant to date.
TIME WARP… Upon completion it overtook the Millbank Tower to once again become the tallest building in both London and the United Kingdom, titles it held until 1980, when it in turn was overtaken by the NatWest Tower.

I don't think it would be a bad idea to turn it into a museum and reopen the restaurant to the public...It's a fascinating building that arouses a lot of nostalgia...
Amazing that the revolving restaurant never opened again, I would think it would be extremely popular.
Bet it stil works Today. Amazing the British make half of the world's inventions. We need make this country great again.
Trans Missions
Didn’t public access stop as soon as the IRA detonated a device planted in the ceiling of the toilets of the restaurant?
I can never take Rimmer seriously, waiting for the canned laughter after every statement
I was up there once after the restaurant closed. BT used to use it for corporate jollies. I can confirm that it's all to easy to put your drink down and then not find it again.

Rimmer also loves his telegraph poles

Chris should do more of this type of stuff. Excellent!
One non-classified correction, Liverpool had a similar restaurant. It was fantastic.
What a great little film. It made my toes curl when he was outside of the tower
It was foggy the day I got my one and only invitation to the BT Tower. Can't believe they've sold it!
