I tried 3 different locations and right near the mid sounded the absolute best by far. This is once I set them to -3 and aimed them off axis toward my dome light. You can't even recommend a spot because not only is every car different but, every component set is also. The spots that have always sounded good in other cars I've done sounded terrible because the set I was using had a harsh tweeter and a crossover point that did not like having the tweet separate at all. You can't tell until you test, it's the only way.
personally l think reflecting the tweeters off of the windshield works pretty good, because then it doesn't sound as harsh and the listening position is widened. when you have the tweeters pointing out at you then you only have 1 tweeter pointing at 1 ear while the other tweeter is point at an empty seat. but l can hear both tweeters when they are pointing at the windshield.
As with high end home audio speakers the closer the tweeter is to the midrange (in a 3 way setup) or the midbass (in a 2 way setup) the better it will intergrate much better. Normaly placing the mids and tweeters on the a pillers is going to give you the best sound stage but as this is not always poss i would mount them as close together as poss. Alough now adays theres time alignment and prossessing the less you need to do the better.
Dash tweeter location is too bright, A-pillar location creates unequal path lengths. Kick panel enclosures creates a better path length,,because the distance is near equal. Using a D.S.P. like the Audio Control DM-810 with time correction helps get a good front stage on the dash image.
Nice video, it's hard to do a video like this, here are my comments: If it's for SQ... why not start with basics, like keep tweeters as far apart from each other and as far forward possible from the listener, the most important is the direct path from Left tweeter to Left ear (same for the right side). Your goal should be a "Wide and Deep" STAGE, not how good it sounds to figure out the location of the tweeters. my 2 cts SQ speaking
The best place to put the tweeters is in the kick panels (if possible) otherwise it's in the front doors just make sure where ever you mount them they are within 6 to 7 feet from the woofers & cross overs. Otherwise it won't sound great where ever you install them trust me on that. I been installing and customize car audio aftermarket system's since I was 14 I'm 37 now. I don't claim to be some master car audio system building master. I just am giving you all fact's. It's your choice rather or not to listen and avoid countless hours of trying different things.
in my experience the best place for the tweeters is up on the dash pointing at the windshield because it widens the listening position. otherwise you have 1 tweeter pointing at your ear and the other one is pointed at the other guy or an empty seat.
The best area is as close to the mid bass as possible point blank a tweeters job is to complement the sound of the mid bass driver not to over power it so in my experience attenuation plays a large role in place ment the further away less atenuatio. The closer more atenuation
Not if your passenger's feet are going to be in the way. It's also a really low presence source which is even harder to drive the image up to a center stage. It's a car so there is no "best" way because a car is a horrible place for audio.
Question I have a 2 door lexus sc I have infinity perfect components for the rear. focal components on the front. I want to install infinity components in the rear but not in the rear deck. Gas tank is behind the seat so I want my bass to pass thru the rear deck. I have plenty of space in the rear quarters. I know coaxial would be the easiest but I have this expensive set of components I want to use . Do I mount the woofer low high same question goes for the tweeter. My radio has a processor for time alignment if that makes a difference, but thank you for your help. From old school car audio guy to another, I'm 38 I've been into sounds my whole life I just want the best sound. Thanks.
It i have an amplifier rated Maximum consumption (resistive load) = 500A • Maximum consumption (music signal) = 400A . Do i have to put a fuse between 400 - 500 amp or can i put something less like 300 and if i do put less can it damage the amplifier?
I know everyone always says place sticky tape and see where they sounds best, and that's good advice, but in my experience virtually all tweeters sound better on axis than thru do off. In the majority of rides near the base of the "A" pillars or sail panel angled at a 45 degree angle aimed at the dome light work well, especially with a processor where you can really tune them. Most tweeters come with angle mount cups. I tell people use that if you can. The dash usually has too much reflection from the windshield and make tuning much more difficult.
dwdrums828 They are coming, don't worry! We have been busy over here. The install bay is going to look a little different the next time you all see it! :]
Hey im aussie just had some db 6501s and some db 651s installed with a GM-D8604 amp. When i turn on the system i am getting a weird shhhh noise that is coming through the tweeters. When i turn on the engine it becomes a whining noise and the frequency goes up as the revs of the engine go up. Any ideas what could be causing it? had it professionally installed but the guy kinda seemed pretty clueless. Please the system cost me an arm and a leg and while you cant really hear the noise when music is playing its still really distressing.
Sounds like your head unit needs tp have a better ground or a secondary ground mounted. They make some noise filters you can install inline with your power wire to cut out the whine you hear from the engine.
Check the ground connection on the amplifier, has to be grounded very good. If that checks out, some people run a "second" small gauge ground from the amp to the head unit.
Its engine noise you need to find where the leak is...its usually faulty wiring try fusing the alternator wire my experience when this has happened is its voltage issue more than rca and it could be your radio needs a filtering fuse on the constant power wire
Tweeters aimed at the dash is the best location possible, the windshield horn loads the tweeters and makes them 3x louder than they usually are, these idiots don’t know what they’re talking about lol That’s why the current world champion in sound quality has tweeters and 3” mids aimed at his window, his car sounds like an irl concert
You missed a serious detail (and were a dink about it in the process). If you don't have your mids aimed at the window, which almost no one is going to do, nor was this video about that, then aiming just your tweeters which is what they were talking about at the window would overpower them. They gave perfectly fine advice for 99.98% of the time.
Try what I did. Flip the console up on your truck and sit in the center of the seat. Put on a song you've heard 1000 times. Now bend your head down a little, then a little more and then a little more until your ears are level with your kick panel coaxes. You'll definitely get an idea of what the speaker manufacturers have had to resort to. I think they've artificially boosted the treble frequencies in speakers they imagine are going to be mounted near the floor of the vehicle. That's because carpet and people's legs have muffled some of the higher frequencies to the point were you don't even hear some of them while driving. This has been driving me crazy. I'm thinking about just a woofer on the bottom in the door ('05 F-150 ) and in the spot provided for the Tweeter somehow making a mid-range fit. Then put a tweeter on the sail or the A pillar.
+Guillermo Pianetta usually people do components in the front coaxials in the rear. because you are doing just rear filling with coaxials and getting ur true system imaging from the front trying to get the best center stage.
PLEASE HELP! Hey, I own a Hertz 100w tweeter (4ohm, Fs = 1250Hz) and added a 100v, 100uF capacitor to avoid heavy bass from the tweeters. Does this help cut off harmful bass and protect the tweeters? N.B. I couldn't find anything below 100V, 100uF.
I have a question so my amp on a high volume the amp it looks like is trying to go to protect mod but don't what can it be??low power or is the amp not good
mounting on the dash removes all obstacles and this makes it a good compromise and also effectively amplifies the output, there are drawbacks obviously but more liveable than mounting elsewhere….tweeter placement doesn’t change perceived voice location as those are midrange frequencies but does remove the frequencies it does play from the other drivers, so mounting a 2 way midrange tweeter in the dash is an even better compromise as you have more bandwidth from one location yet this requires mid bass drivers somewhere else to play those frequencies….so where and how can we mount drivers to handle even more bandwidth from a single location with little obstructions? Hmmmmm a simple 6.5 coaxial mounted in the front lower doors will yield full bandwidth with very little obstruction from a single location!!!!! This is the absolute best speaker arrangement lol only downside is a low soundstage well oh well everything else is spot on
+Deyanira Cordova Selective hearing is crazy isnt it. what they are saying is that you need to determine for yourself the correct placement based upon your application. They gave numerous tips on how to position and tune to get the best sound. You just need to listen a little better
