Wow, really great video Jen. One point that you might have over looked is that if you are bringing your big camera, most of us still have our cell phone in a back pocket or in our coats. I use cell phone for the smaller fast shots with no set up and as you pointed out, to post on social. If I get to the "perfect" view or scene, well out comes the big guns. Thanks for all your work and the time you take making sure we have a great time too! :)

9:30 -- this is THE most convincing demo I've ever seen for making that iPhone clip-on lens purchase. WILL DEFINITELY GET ONE now. Thanks, Jeannie!

I am going to use my I-Phone on our trip. The reason: Less gear to haul and keep up with and it takes acceptable photos. And the big reason is that the photos go to my I-Pad and we can watch it on our TV. The photos are safely stored and we can get to them at any time. Can make hard prints if we want. As you get older, you want to downsize a lot of your "Stuff" so that you can travel lighter and easier. Will be going in early June so many thanks for your videos. It is helping a lot with our planning.

I’ve been wavering on my birthday vacation spot for this year and narrowed it down to either Scotland or Iceland. And then I happened onto your channel a few nights ago and have been binging your vids. You’ve made my choice for me! Can’t wait to explore Iceland in October.

This video was so helpful!! I have been debating about investing on a camera for our trip in September but you clarified a whole lot for me! I'm upgrading my iPhone soon so I'm just going to buy the suggested add-ons and use my phone for the trip. Thank you for helping me save money on this too!! You're seriously the best!!

Got some great pictures of Aurora with Google Night Sight feature on a Pixel 2. Actually came out better than real life. It really surprised us how good it came out.

I'm thinking about going to Iceland at the end of August as never been there before. I have a digital camera but it is a cheap one which is worse than my phone camera. I literally only use my phone to take photos and always bring a portable charger with me for when my phone battery dies (was amazing when I went to Disneyland Paris for the first time last week as could carry on taking photos without having to go back to my hotel to charge my phone). I only got my digital camera so I could use it in Mozambique a few years ago as I didn't want my phone being stolen and still wanted to take photos.

I have a cheap Canon Ixus with 12x optical zoom. Much better pictures then the Iphone. Better zoom, sharper pictures, better colors and it handles different lights way better. I don't do a lot of settings, I'm not an expert. The Ixus is small as a phone so it's easy to carry. I would definitaly recommend to bring a camera even if you're not a proffesional.

I brought my phone, a LG V20. Brought it twice to Iceland, then once home I downloaded them to shutterfly. They look great! It was a difficult decision weather to bring my camera Nikon Coolpix also. I didn't. December 2017 I was actually able to get some (far off) pics of the northern lights. Do your homework :)

Last year at my visit of Iceland I had my smartphone (Wiko View Prime) with me and a Camera Canon EOS 500D.
I took about 1.600 fotos with the big camera - and about 930 fotos with my smartphone.
I love to take panorama pictures with my smartphone - and I got wonderful photos with a beautiful ilumnation.
I am glad that I had both with me.
An yes - taking small videos with the smartphone was much easier then with the "big one". ;o)

I love to see that you have upgraded to a full frame Sony from your A6000. I am shooting with a A7RM4 and hubby has a A7C, my question is does the 24-105 wide enough for most shooting or should I bring my 16-35? Is it recommended to bring a telephoto lens for a trip in September since we will not be seeing puffins (we have had to cancel 2 June trips due to covid).

Great info on all your videos. We will be in Iceland in January 2022. I need to know if it is worth packing my drone (mavic 2 pro) or will the wind be just too much for it.

I have a neighbor who just visited iceland. He just thought there is too much rain or waterfall water to use a camera. I don't know whether it is true.

I want to know if you have any suggestion about having a cell phone for photo and the cold weather seems to shorten the life of the battery. My phone seems to use up battery power quite fast without even taken tons of photo. It does not happen in a warmer climate like in 50-79 F. Any suggestion on how to keep my phone working when it is so cold in Iceland ?

No. You really don't need a big, fancy camera.
Remember that you will have to make space for that camera in your bag when you are going for a hike or wherever. You'll also need to be able to protect it from the elements.
Also, leave the drone. They aren't allowed in a lot of places in Iceland anymore and (let's be honest here) they are annoying.
If you really love working with a fancy dslr, that is your call, but it is unnecessary. Also, you look at less than 1% of those photos.
