Hi Michael, This is Neal Linville, the guy who was Supposed to be Crippled from the Neck Down when I turned 40. I will be 45 in May, Just finished My ChiCycling workout lt was Good. I know I am a Newbie at this but an Exercise I did was where you squat softly, feet Shoulder width apart, Head , Upper Body ,including Arms, Hands, and Shoulders are very Limp . Then You just turn the Waist and the Arms just swing only as fast as you turn the Waist. You may want to add it a workout unless you already have . That Exercise HELPS You stay Loose and I think it HELPS Align the HIPS ,WAIST, and SPINE. IF You haven't tried it ,TRY IT and Tell Me what you think it's 20 reps each side. You then move the feet a little past Shoulder width apart. I Know IT WORKS because I TRIED IT Hoping it would help MY Back and iy DID. IT is IMPORTANT that you twist the Waist as Far aS YOU can ON EACH SIDE.. I enjoyed Your ChiCycling I hope it Builds My Muscles as well as My Chi so people will notice. I also practiced the Yang Style 108 Long Form, up to the first Fighting Applications. I Plan to Practice Every Day BUT Sunday. Thanks Again. I hope you didn't know about that Exercise and that YOU Try it and find it Benefic Your UA-cam Student, D. Neal Linville
Welcome back Shifu Gilman, I really missed you. I called your studio number but i got no response(I'm from India). Great to see you back. life is great with your videos. I love doing my Tai chi with you.
Hello Michael. This is really quite amazing. I find the time factor of doing the cycling slowly and building up momentum over say 40 minutes or longer, exploring forward, backward, horizontal, vertical, leg extended, etc, to be really the key rather than say doing a ten minute quick paced routine. There is something about slowly getting the body warmed up and opening up the tight, restricted places and gently exploring and discovering what comes up, like a flower gently unfolding. And I could see using imagery as a powerful tool in the "pedaling." Could you briefly comment on the importance of slowly opening? Thanks again for all your great videos. They really are gems. Blessings to you.
Natural movement doesn't take any thought. You just do it, like pushing, pulling, hitting and kicking. But Tai Chi is a meditative art that requires a person to experience every part of the movement in order to do the most work with the least effort. Slow and steady is one of our core principles. Feel what you are doing on the inside, not just the result of the action. Enjoy.
@@mdgilman Thank you so much for your reply Michael. While I can't be your student in a physical sense, your videos allow me to connect with you at a student-teacher relationship across time and space, and for that I am truly blessed. Thanks again. Much love and gratitude.
Hey Mr. Gilman, I asked you in Part 1 of the 108 IF you do supplementary exercises for the upper body ,because you have nice forearms . I see you do so and I.will be adding this video to your Tai Chi 108 Yang Form. Thank You Sir , I think This will help my Broken Back,Torn Rotator Cuff , while building My Muscles. Thanks Again Mr. Gilman. I think people would do better without the Hand Bike because you can't get the Angles and Range of Motion with the Hand Bike.. I am starting Tomorrow, should I do the ChiCycling or Tai Chi practice 1st. I have a Broken Back,Scoliosis, and Screws in my Knee and Ankle. I learned the Tai Chi 38 Short Form with Fighting Applications and the same with the Chen Tai chi. No I am Not a Nut everything I have written you is TRUE. My first Doctor at the Pain Management Center told me I would be crippled from the Neck Down by 40 ,I was 30 at the time . He was wrong Because I can walk and move all of my Body Parts . I credit that to God, Prayer and The Martial Arts, and Exercise. Your New Student, D. Neal Linville

I told him I practied what i learned for 2hrs and lift weights for 2 hrs eevery day except sunday which was Church Day. He told me i could Learn or even teach myself just about aNY Martial Art I wanted to Learn I learned The Yang Short Form 1st via VHS and The Chen Style next w/fighting applications. Some say The Chen Style is the closet to Shaolin Kung Fu. ,ALL I know is BOTH make the Mind and Body Feel Good. I am looking forward to Learning The108 Yang Style Long Form from you, Plus The ChiCycling, I've had to use an ArmBike when BOTH shoulders had to be operated on. I guess at first the Tai Chi will Be like a refresher Course up to move 38 , BUT I am really looking forward to TRAINING with as much appreciation to Tai Chi as I have .Thank You and of Course your training Partner. Sincerely, D. Neal Linville
You want to TM chi cycling, seriously? It is like trademarking Blood Circulation! Qi/ Chi cycles through the whole body together just like blood does, this is what it DOES. Such action ridicules an ancient Eastern tradition and puts Westerners in a really bad light.
Bless you for putting all these excellent training videos on youtube
