Hogan APEX shafts were light as well. Thanks for the comparison. I switched from the KBS Tour 120 S in my old clubs to the 201 with Tour Lite S. I took about a month or 15 rounds to get comfortable with the feel. The shaft /club combo is very smooth.
Great start Tim. Yeah not much difference between the shafts. I guess though as you said," its what you feel better playing, the lighter or the heavier. I would prefer the lighter shafts. Interesting try out though.
Got the 101s with tour regular and are fantastic when you stay committed to the swing. Not so great when you take some sting out . My next set will be the lite regular as I’m getting older but love the clubs
Just got my 201's with obsidian 95s. My callaway rogues have a project x 6.0 that's 120g. Wasn't sure if i should have gone with 115g. About to play my first round, wish me luck. Have to come back with how they feel.
Hi can I ask why you wished you’d gotten the lites? Ive recently had a Taylormade fitting and he recommended the KBS Tour 110, my issue is I’m 65 years old, I’d like this to be my last iron purchase so would think the lites would be my best option long term. Thanks.
Excited for this one. Been holding off on buying irons until I finally pony up the money for a fitting. My swing is slower than yours, but it's a great comparison for base knowledge.
I believe the KBS chart shows the lite to be higher launch higher spin. Seeing how it affects your swing is a good reminder to get fit because while the lite was higher launch it definitely was lower spin here.
I did a fitting with kbs cuz i had disc replacement in my neck and changed my swing a little and went from kbs tour 120 S to kbs tour lite 115 XS and play 301 combo set. In my fitting only difference besides feel of the slight weight change was what i was looking for which was slightly higher ball flight due to the flex point and point of impact. I hope people dont see this video and buy tour lite shafts hoping for same results because you wont get them. So many swing factors go into what a shaft will do for you. The shaft is easily 80% of the performance of the club.
I have Hogan PTx irons with different shafts and much prefer the heavier shafts. Even extra stiff doesn't feel overly stiff and actually I can't tell much difference.
Please, please do a video with data/information on the obsidian graphites all the way up to 115g in the 101s and/or 101Ts. It would be very helpful. Thanks.
Could you please configure a set for senior golfers {70 plus age group}? Curious to see what Takomo would recommend. Maybe with graphite shafts and arthritic grips? Thanks and great videos!
I've seen other comparisons on shaft weight and those found that swing speeds were pretty much the same between heavier and lighter. Dispersion changed but club speed didn't seems you see the same. Would be interesting to see if you find a difference on the golf course. Perhaps one will be more manageable for you.
I am not you and you are not me sums it up perfectly. The only way to know if a shaft / head combination works for you is to get fitted. That is where Takomo fall down.
Interesting video, so what iron shaft and flex do you normally play then, I no longer play KBS shafts but did play the Tour V 120 X, this video has got me thinking about maybe trying some lighter iron shafts than the 120-125 gram shafts which I currently play.
I normally go between the KBS Tour S/X flex or the KBS C-Taper S shafts. It’s more about swing weight feel for me and how the face feels through the swing. So totally personal preference. I’ve played with everything from R flex to X out on the course I genuinely think I could use and of it and they’d perform just fine. I’ve just been trying to find the “feel” I like best in the swing. - Tim
Tim You would expect that a lighter shaft would give you a bit more club head speed and therefore ball speed and carry distance. Interesting that you saw more ball speed from increased efficiency rather than club head speed. Overall though this suggests that the slightly lighter weight is better for your swing and strike.
Are you talking swing weight or total weight when you're talking about it being heavier? I can't believe you got through a whole video without specifying.
Love these “test”, but it seems everyone that does them will get rid of the worst shots. We want to manage our misses so why not keep the 5 worse shots and then compare. Just a thought, maybe nobody wants to see that. Great video
Good point! Will definitely do some test where I leave in everything. One reason to get rid of the misses on some of the miss hits is because a really bad miss hit may have nothing to do with the equipment and just be a poor swing. A shank is a shank no matter the shaft 😂 - Tim
