So disappointed that I am 53 yrs old and have only just now discovered Laurie Lipton !🙉 loved every piece shown in video. Thank you for not listening to the art snobs.
Her work reminds me of a Gahan Wilson cartoon where an artist set up on a featureless street-corner is filling the canvas with fantastic creatures and explaining to passersby, " I paint what I see ".
My God, I've found my inspiration, the same world-view and messages (to the world) coming from another artist. The first that I've ever seen who validates, champions, and celebrates "black & white" as "more" than color. I write, she draws. We meet in the "gray" middle (or "out there") somewhere. Finally, someone who sees through all the shit (from the 1950s on). Thank you so much. She also says "Just let me alone... I just want to draw." Yes.
An amazing contemporary artist I had never heard of. I loved everything about her-her disdain for normalcy, her ability to see things that other people do not, her down-to-earth, keep-it-real attitude. She’s wonderful! I especially liked her hint at the end, that she had a hard time calling herself an artist-took her years, I guess. It’s refreshing to unapologetically say, “I’m an artist.”
I saw Laurie's work a long time a go in tumblr, and i love it, and now that i get to hear her speak about her life and her work i love it even more, what a great artist
Every once in a while, the algorithm brings up a gem. I didn’t know about her before this, and her work is awesome. I guess “the algorithm” is a little meta in this case, eh?
it's strange indeed how suddenly we get comments over our Laurie's story. I wonder if someone posted the link somewhere which created that rise of attention.
A dark and mysterious vision rife with images of the apocalyptic, macabre, and humorous. Her experience of American society is testament to the bizarre undercurrent that exists but is only occasionally acknowledged.
A top notch interview and presentation. The honesty and commitment that Laurie Lipton has to her art and her bravery in expressing her thoughts is astounding. A true original, in all the best possible ways.
I adore all of her works, truely gives me a uncomfortable feeeling and gives me a weird vibe whenever i see her works. Her creativity and talent deserves more recognition :((
Sweet and with sweat equity for the exacting work of drawing. The fundamental skill of drawing is the mark of the artist . Also remarkable is her honesty .
I lover her self awareness and focus on how extensive the detail of her work is! The faces on the conveyor belt is insane and my fav is the deranged housewife. So glad I came across her work she's a gift to the craft of drawing!
Some of her art has a definite political viewpoint -- which is not popular with the "Controllers." She sees right thru the shams, the deceptions -- can't have that. The Emperor has no clothes.
There's tonnes of great artists, men and women, who aren't well known, that's the art world, same as the movie world, game world, music world and, to an extent, book world, whenever large amounts of money are to be made, it attracts people who care more about the money than the art form
I love this in insanely many ways. If I was teaching any kind of art, I would absolutely have my students watch this. In fact, I am going to show this to my daughter right now.😊 Such a gift youtube just presented me with. Also, I did not know Laurie Lipton at all! And now I realise that my cheeks are wet from tears. 🤷🏼♂️
@@MYGALEFILMS I think it just popped up here (chosen by the algo) and I probably clicked the thumbnail, because I have an interest in early electronic music, and the thumbnail had a vibe of “early electronic pioneer” documentary.
PARIS NOV.2022 : LAURIE LIPTON will be in Paris Sat 19th and 26th of November 2022 at the Art Gallery HALLE SAINT PIERRE in Montmartre. Signing her new book and meeting the public between 3pm and 6pm
". . . being a human being and seeing what goes on! How could you not be disturbed? Even a happy person - even a well adjusted person should be disturbed." 5:39
Genius video!! I'd seen some of less disturbing drawing occasionally but was never aware of her as a person. This was a brilliant video! There are a number of her drawings I will be glad not to see again but so many others, wow, I could study, study, study!! Her honesty and ease was very refreshing! Outstanding!!!
I am eighty years old and I have long wondered what art truly is, and who is a true artist. I feel that I have been converging on my own answers for some time, but just twenty-five minutes watching this video removed all doubt: Art is what Laurie Lipton does. Laurie Lipton is, for me, the definition of an artist. I suspect that Banksy is her soul brother, but that does not really matter.
Laurie Lipton is an amazing artist- Her work is intriguing and worthy of study and interpretation. She really is an interesting woman. Thanks for uploading this film - I too left art university in my final year because I felt misunderstood.
Yes! She always felt like a foreigner in America. Absolutely, 100% correct. And it took her leaving and coming back to figure out why. Most revealing statement: "It's been very shocking seeing what America is like."
So true about graphite drawings being totally unwanted by galleries - unless you’re long dead and now regarded as a ‘master’! I’ve had no galleries interested in my work - as I use graphite and/or charcoal - but at least I get a few commissions each year, which makes it worthwhile! PS - I love her work - it’s glorious!
What type of subjects do you draw, Lipton is so detailed it's mind boggling how much time she puts into each one, you can tell it took thousands or hundreds of hours into them, which makes the prices become very high, I don't see why she just doesn't do small works and get maximum amount of money while she's living
I prefer drawing portraits - but the commissions I get are for pets. It’s irritating … but hey - that’s what they want. I also don’t go much beyond A3 - so I understand the amount of effort that goes into her drawings - but I won’t be attempting any artwork of that scale; I have too many other things to do!
@@shable1436 I used to teach others how to use Adobe applications and I worked with Pagemaker, InDesign and Photoshop intensively for 15 years on a music magazine........... that's why I do my art the traditional way with graphite and charcoal..... and why I use apps other than Adobe now, as they fit my way of working far better and they're more logical.
@@rebeccaabraham8652 Isn't it hilarious when people assume you are some kind of luddite because you do traditional art? I do that and I don't have a cell phone so people call me that name all the time. Yet I have worked in the digital animation biz for many years and i own four computers and a Cintiq. Most of them barely know how to use a computer. It's funny.

She is literally a modern master. My absolute favorite artist.
She is exactly what an artist is meant to be.
So glad this video was on my UA-cam page. Love it.
A Master Artist. One of the best of all time.
Rarely have I ever been so stunned and delighted to stumble upon a video like this; straight up amazing!
Great artist, great video
Avec les quelques mots rares d'anglais que je sais : great and splendiuos woman ; respect
Love Lauries work, great sense of humour too!
Great interview, she is a hoot, so much fun. Thank you.
What a beautiful human being Laurie is Genius brilliant beautiful Magnificent work love it love her X
She’s amazing in her art in her personality in the way she sees world.
Her work reminds me of a Gahan Wilson cartoon where an artist set up on a featureless street-corner is filling the canvas with fantastic creatures and explaining to passersby, " I paint what I see ".
What an amazing woman. I admire her as much as her art.
Absolute brilliance.

Oh! I just Love this person, artist, crazy enjoyer of the moment.
This is fantastic. She's fantastic, the art is fantastic, the video is fantastic. Thank you .
That was a magnificent interview with a master. Thank you so much for posting.
This was the most fun to watch. Awesome Artist. I love how she explained everything with such enthusiasm. Love it!!
The complexity of those drawings is extraordinary - what a unique talent.
Now this is an artist!
I love her work!
I can spend hours looking at the art, as she drew it, and finding the hidden faces, or other surprises she drew as she went along!
This was a great video. I was so entertained by not only the art, but the artist herself.
Thanks for this.
"Look what Laurie did!"
Parent level Master Class.
Wonderful. Real talent. And a realistic eye upon the world... Science pales when compared to the deeper reality of art.
Laurie Lipton has a brand-new fan!
Such an amazing artist. Such an interesting human being.
We need to appreciate these kind of artists.
This kind or these kinds.

Terrific. Such a survivor. Love her story and her stuff.
Are you by any chance related to any of the Bentleys of Gloucester, Massachusetts?
She is awesome.
That was excellent.
Holy crap I want to have coffee with this lady. Never heard of her before today, her work is fucking awesome.

A dark and mysterious vision rife with images of the apocalyptic, macabre, and humorous. Her experience of American society is testament to the bizarre undercurrent that exists but is only occasionally acknowledged.
Amazing talent and honesty to describe her self as a person and artist.
Her way to laugh is as outstanding as her drawings.
Wow you're my new favorite artist.
She is freakin great !
Brilliant artist, so glad to have seen this, & what a great film, thank you..
This is a gem! Thank you
Fantastic documentary
I smiled from start to finish.
As someone that works in graphite myself I can relate to everything she said.
I could look at her work all day x
This lady and her art are amazing. I am so happy I found her work, and Im not even close to dark or goth but amazing art is amazing art.

Genius. Amazing. This made my year.

absolutely fantastic artwork all the time.
I'm so incredibly impressed with Laurie, and love the art. Thank you.
My favorite artist
I like this lady she's great!
She is a genius. I never said that about anyone before. Why don't we hear more about this artist?
Because she’s a woman. And she works in pencil. And her work makes some people uncomfortable. All lousy reasons, am I right? But there it is.
Some of her art has a definite political viewpoint -- which is not popular with the "Controllers." She sees right thru the shams, the deceptions -- can't have that. The Emperor has no clothes.
