I have this jamie xx remix single on vinyl and tried playing it on the slower speed. It totally changes the feel of this song.
i like the fact that when Romy sings Jamie XX didn't put any music in the background practically, like he wanted to show how her voice is beautiful
I adore the original version so much. The Jamie mix just takes it to another level. Sounds like 3 guitars: bass, throaty baritone, and a sixer. Great electro-bass and some truly cool drum sounds. They are a talented bunch. At some times, the string work is a little akin to Stellastarr*. A thought. Regardless, pure brilliance 😉
I think the whole album feels much more like his style of work than their first, I'd say he had more influence.
I never said he didn't produce it, I'm saying he probably didn't have the final word in the production as it feels like he had more ideas but they didn't come through. Now it seems as he's turning those ideas into remixes and they sound much more interesting then the original songs. The fact is he's putting out a quite a few remixes of the Coexist tracks in a rather short period of time and you gotta wonder if he had the final say in the production of Coexist or was he held back somehow.

You speak of the xx and jamie xx as two completely different things! lol. Jamie xx undoubtely has gained so much experience from being in the xx. This has all affected his production without a doubt. But you're right in saying that his solo stuff (housey stuff) is different to the band's (indie) own music. But that's what I love about the xx, and jamie xx. They're such a diverse bunch and Jamie xx is just a beautiful human being lol
Also adore the "gather" points in this version. The near silence is healthy in some tracks. Works very well here. Props!

My preference is for the subtlety of the XX, rather than the flurry of ideas from Jamie, but there's plenty of room for both.
