Going back with a camper should really be worth it. The wonders of this blue planet is passed by by most humans! I like your stuff because you seem to appreciate and enjoy the wildlife and beauty of Nature ❤❤ keep it up Claus!
Thanks for sharing those beautiful scenes Claus. Great place to take a beep breath and witness the circle of life. I can relate to that salmon that jumped straight into the wall.
Thanks for Sharing, Claus. Even though Alaska isn't in Canada Yukon is that's what makes the North so great < I am from a town whose county touches the boundary of the Algonquin Park, and I take every chance to head home. I love being in the woods. listening to the animals.
Beautiful. I spent 2 weeks in Ketchikan. North, up the highway is a park, Ward Lake Nature Trailhead. The salmon are so thick, you could almost walk across the creek on their backs. The are only in 1 ft. of water and are spawning in the gravel creek bed. The Pioneer restaurant has a great breakfast. Whales are often seen in the channel.
Hi Claus! Glad to see you are having fun. Im Dutch and my sister is married to a Canadian from Montrose BC and via those two I lived and worked in different places across BC, SASK & NWT for a decade. The ONE thing I allways tell anyone that asks me just how beautifull Canada is, is the storie you just told. Canada is amazing but you're absolutely spot on; those salmons are quite something even between Canada's allready gorgeous landscape. Have fun bro! How is the home doing?
In Juneau back in May there were only 2 other people on the steep hike trail up to mount Roberts we saw, with 10,000 cruise ship passengers sucked into the gauntlet of trinket sellers. It was near freezing, raining and post-holing near the top, so not attracting many takers. A few took the tram up the mountain though.
Claus if you want another tourist Trap in Alaska, you should Visit North Pole (yes that is the name of the town). If you want to really see the true majestic beauty, go into the interior. Eagle summit has breath taking views when the sky is clear, and if you go during the fall there is a chance you can see the Auroa Borealis. Its a long drive out of Fairbanks, but its worth it.
ive never seen atlantic salmon jump up falls in new brunswick but ive seen them jump moving up river and when i have then hooked on my fly tons of fun and our salmon dont die during spawn and return to the ocean next spring
I agree whole heartly, they are smarter and now the big upset they have a soul too, if you ever cared for an animal you would know. And anyone born after 1996 can't disconnect from their new life, the mobile phone, it controls their life, remembers stuff for them, tells them anything they want to know regardless of it's factual accuracy. We are getting dumber, like my 14 yr old nephew, couldn't read a clock face, well he can now and I got in trouble when I told him to sit in front of it for 30 mins to try and work it out, instead of telling him, which he did and even understands 24 hour time now. None of my nephews or nieces are going to be dumb.
Glad to hear you are going to load up the Subaru and haul the A-liner back to Alaska. Surprised you weren't picked up by the AST and Fishery for using a telescoping fly rod when you found the salmon run.
I worked on a commercial fishing boat off Kodiak Island in the summer of 1994. Didn't see much of the tourist stuff, but saw a whole lot of the island shore. Very beautiful. Saw a couple kayaking around, camping on the shore and thought that was the coolest thing.
Well now I feel bad for skipping Ketchikan when my wife and I went on the Alaskan cruise last summer. A - I was hungover from the night before (we got the drink package and I made SURE i got my money's worth!) and B - I figured it was like every other town full of the same shops with the same crap that every other town had. I would have like to have seen this but I don't think the salmon were running when we were there anyways...guess I'll have to go back? lol
Each species of Alaska will run between May and September. Commercial salmon fishing inside the coastline and interior is poaching. Fish & game wardens will confiscate everything that you own. Personnel salmon fishing is limited per day and one type of hook is allowed. After salmon spawn, they will start to die, some species will start to turn red.
Well Claus... You make "Tourist Trap," sound like it's a bad thing. For those small towns, isolated from most of the world, catering to the tourists is probably the best way the town has to generate revenues, at least during that season. There ain't too many tourists that would be willing to go there, in the dead of winter, including many Canadians! It's pretty much seen as the main reason these fish know which stream to go to for spawning. They don't just hatch and leap straight into the ocean... They hatch far upstream where they were laid by the former adults. By the time they hatch, those adult fish are already dead. They hatch and begin to develop, as they make their way down the streams. And that trip might take them a year or morer, before they finally reach the salty ocean. And they will 'hang out,' in the brackish waters, where fresh and salt waters meet, to acclimatize themselves to saltwater. So, maybe a year maybe up to 2 years will pass before they become ocean going salmon.

Do all the fish get lost when the magnetic poles switch?
yes

The beauty of nature is shocking, I tell ya! I am jealous. (Do I get two stars?)

Alaska is so beautiful. Did you see any bears?
