I was there in Rome and witnessed this event as a young 6 year old boy. My father placed me on his shoulders so that I could clearly see the procession of her glass coffin. She was so beautiful and her body was perfectly preserved. I will never forget her. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

I also remember being told that this is the feast of st john the Baptist. Italy is 6 hrs ahead of ny and the canonization was around the same time I was born. When I was in the 7th grade, my teacher, sr paulette, started the maria goretti club. I was so excited to join.
