I’m pretty new to this way of eating. Definitely struggling on how to incorporate all the types of foods and enjoy them. Work in progress. 😊

I am a mood eater, I make sure I have a variety of ingredients and meals ready prepared in the fridge because I need to decide on the day what I fancy eating. Food prepping and batch-cooking are essential for me, and I also think food tastes better one or a few days later. I try to listen to my body, some days it fancies salads more than starches, some days it wants more protein or healthy fats, or craves veggie soups, but usually things end up pretty well-balanced over a 12-hour period, then I let my body rest for the other 12 hours.

I'm learning a lot from your videos. I never know what is right or wrong to eat. I'm full of doubts. I'm going to include some sweet potatoes and tahini and see how it goes. Thanks a lot!!

Oh my! You may have answered my 18 year struggle by examples and details. I would only eat beans, 1/2 ounce nut/seed, vegetables, fruit for one meal, another meal potatoes or grain, veggies, fruit with another 1/2 ounce of fat from nut/seed/avacado. I’ll try doing the whole grain and bean together to see if that helps satisfy my enormous appetite. I was always afraid it was too many carbs at once.
I do have a question, do plant proteins also require up to 20 percent of their calories for digestion or is that just for animal protein?
I have dabbled the last year following Dr Gabrielle Lyon which is more animal based. Im not sure I want all those animal proteins (130 grams per day)but do like the body composition changes. So hard with all the food noise when it comes to vanity, body composition, longevity, and curbing hunger.

Wow, thank you for sharing your journey-18 years of experimenting with food is incredible! It’s wonderful that you’re open to trying new combinations, like whole grains and beans, which can be satisfying and provide a great balance of carbs, fiber, and protein. To your question about plant proteins and digestion, plant proteins generally require less energy for digestion compared to animal proteins, though the exact percentage can vary depending on the food. Animal proteins tend to demand more energy (up to 20-30% of their calorie content) due to their complex structure. As for body composition, it’s true that higher-protein diets, whether plant- or animal-based, can help with muscle maintenance, but you can absolutely achieve these goals on a plant-based diet by incorporating a variety of protein-rich foods like legumes, tofu, tempeh, and whole grains. I understand how challenging it can be to navigate all the food “noise” out there, but focusing on nutrient-dense, satisfying meals that align with your health and ethical values is key. You’re already so in tune with your body, so trust that intuition as you experiment-your longevity, health, and goals are all worth it!

What if you can’t tolerate beans? Green peas are ok but all other legumes are problematic ?

Thank you for your question! If you’re struggling to tolerate beans and lentils, it’s important to dig a little deeper to figure out why. Sometimes, intolerances stem from gut imbalances, sensitivities, or even how the beans are prepared.
The good news is that many people can gradually build tolerance over time. I recommend starting with very small amounts of easily digestible legumes like red lentils. Cook them thoroughly, and even blend them into soups or purees to make digestion easier. Another option is trying bean-based pastas made from chickpeas or lentils, as these are often gentler on the stomach.
Pair these with foods rich in gut-friendly fiber, like greens or whole grains, to support digestion. If green peas are working for you, that’s a great start-peas are part of the legume family and offer many similar benefits!
Lastly, if discomfort persists, I’d encourage working with a healthcare professional to identify potential root causes and ensure you’re not missing out on the incredible benefits legumes offer, like supporting gut health, stabilizing blood sugar, and reducing chronic disease risk.
Don’t give up-small, consistent steps can make a big difference! 😊

Start with just one spoonful a day for a few days then go up to 2 spoonfuls and so on. I can tolerate them very well now, I can eat a whole can of beans and not even have any wind or bloating.

The most obvious thing is that the person is simply not eating sufficient calories, something that's very easy to do on a plant based diet.

I tried plant based about 5 years off and on. By the time I decided to give it up, I was eating ridiculous amounts of peanut butter and avocados to satisfy my hunger and nothing worked. Not to mention, I couldn’t stay out of the bathroom.
Something as simple as eating a piece of chicken would stop my ibs immediately and my insatiable hunger.
Plant based diets do include animal products by the way. Veganism does not.
