I have the LED strip lights on my shelves for my lego. I suggest I’d that route have them on the bottom of the shelf pointing down. It will light them up way better. I wish I could share a photo.
I think the more light is the better option. Puting in the shelves it creates a big shadow under each one, and that shadow right above the city makes for a bad visual so eliminating that shadow would help out a lot.
Cool the lights are being added! I commented a few videos back about your station and train layout. I really think you main city line should run in front of the theme park so the double station can service both lines. The theme park can move back into the space vacated so should lose any room and makes the parallel tracks in the station easier. Thoughts?
Watching Bricksie get things from the pick a brick wall is so satisfying! And the brick stacking technique was such a smart way to get more for your money! I love coming home everyday and always watching the new Bricksie video! Keep up the amazing work!
regarding to the lights I think that the better options are the ones with wires, either the led or the others, because it would be annoying to charge the batteries all the time however with wires you only have to install them once. If you are going to finally use led I'd use home automation ones so you can control them all with your smartphone very easily, I have them like that and are quite good. I hope I've been useful
I agree on using a smart home controler. It gives many more optins. See my answer above on RGBWW and other options to reduce price and increase performance.
One thing I’ve learned about strip lights: they always sound like a better idea than they turn out to be. Your installation would be pretty easy, but it seems like they inevitably start to peel off or begin to break. Strip lights usually have cutable 3-light segments, and I’ve had some of these segments go out on me. Then you’re stuck with a blank spot in your lighting or with a discolored spot. This problem might not exist with higher end strip lights, but I’ve found it to exist with many different ‘cheap’ Amazon brands. Lately, I’ve been much more of a fan of stand-alone lights that don’t require any wiring. Stand-alone lights are just so much easier to work with and move or replace if need be. And having them be plug-in rather than battery ensures that they’ll just always work without the hassle of having to charge them or having their batteries degrade over time.
yep, definitely need brighter under cabinet lights to light the edges of the city where the shelves create shadows, they do create a nice accent highlight to the shelves
I have a couple of magnetic rechargeable lights in my displays. They provide significantly more light than LED strips, but have limited reach if you don't have sufficient vertical space. They look amazing in my larger shelves, but would need 2 per shelf to properly illuminate the low-profile ones. The magnetic strips are convenient, but you'd still need to do some diy work if you wanted to mount them at an angle. Battery life is not the greatest; spec sheet says it's between 3 and 24 hours depending on brightness settings, with a 2-3 hour recharge time. It's good enough if you only use them occasionally, but not really viable as an always-on option. They can be controlled with the same remote, but they are rather finnicky when it comes to angles - I often end up "missing" one or two, even though they are all within 1m of each other. If wired is an option, I'd 100% recommend it over wireless.
The strips can be extended, just get the connector and add it to the link, use black primer sprayed over with your room colour to hide the lit ones between the shelves. Multiple sets cant be used with one remote. If you can pair them in the app they can be changed. Consider adding lights to the city itself, running power cables through the mills to the street lighting etc, inners and amusement parks etc
Hi Bricksie, looking sweet as always! Love the new lights, really brings that needed “pop” of color over the back areas.while you’re working on the beach/ lighthouse area could be a perfect time to add a fishing deck area over a bit of the rocks extending off the side of the fish shack, possibly a couple of mini figs with poles over the railing?? Whatever you decide I know it’ll look amazing. Good for you taking some family time, that will always be job 1!
I've been struggling with the same lighting conundrum, as well. I have an etagere-style shelf that I want to light up, and I can't decide between round puck lights and daisy-chainable lights (like the AIBOO ones you found). The main advantage of the puck lights is that they're easy to install. All you need is some good double-sided tape and you're golden. But the major disadvantage is the battery life. If they're intended to be left on for hours, then you're going to be recharging them (or replacing their batteries if they're not rechargeable) quite often, and if you got a bunch, then that's a lot of time spent just on recharging. The main advantage of the daisy-chainable lights is that they're constantly powered via an outlet. However, these have a couple disadvantages. The first one, like you mentioned, is managing the wires is a bit cumbersome, but they could be organized with white cable channels and white electrical tape for the exposed bits that go over the shelf brackets. (Or maybe the wiring could be taped to the backside of the shelf and the exposed wires under the shelf wrapped with white electrical tape.) The second disadvantage (and I think this one is a bigger problem than the first) is the limitations of daisy-chaining. Depending on the number of lights being chained, there is the possibility that the lights towards the end of the chain won't look as bright, because the transfer of power lessens as it goes further down the chain.
I have 3 seperate lighting styles for my lego one LED strip (modified to reach another shelf, a different LED bars which works well in my Billy bookcase, and my absolute favourite light kits designed for lego sets I go for light my bricks but other options are availiable this would only really work if you have no intention on dismantling sets. I would personally attach the LED strips to the undeside of the shelves so its brighter instead of diffusing it.
Lighting in the cabinets is a great idea maybe wait to that when you move to the new location and set up as you move in would be the best way for the wiring
@Bricksie, just wanted to ask, in one of your vids I noticed inside your tub of doom there was a Acidicus. If you didn't really need it, it would be so helpful if you could send it over as I have nearly completed my Venomari tribe. If not then that's ok. Also great vid! Lighting looks great!
I really think that is time well spent on the cup packing given the amount of parts you must use. If you consider the price per piece I would think you saved a lot more than the $15 for the cup
Maybe you can try a mostly-single row of light or dark blue plate under the blue tile to show the rocks extending beneath the water. I have done this on a couple of MOCs and its looks pretty nice. Would also work well as you have the lighthouse right there, which would be warning boats away from the rocks hidden beneath then surface. The rest of the water is looking sweet so far with the 4 shades of blue!
I use Christmas lights to light my Lego since I already have them; whereas, $70 for a good-quality light kit is unfriendly toward my Lego budget. They look suprisingly cool despite the stud-thick green cord and the multi-colored lights. I stuff the bulbs in the windows and doors of buildings, though the minifigures in my Lego city think I'm crazy. Well, I'll show them!
As a professional lighting designer I think you would be happier with the wired under the cabinet lights because they are are more of a direct light where the colored strip lights are more of an accent light. The battery powered option is nice but over time the battery degrades from recharging and they with loose longevity of the charge held and in most cases you can't just replace the battery you have to replace the whole light.
Yeah, the staircase pieces are kind of awkward to put in a PAB cup and it can't fit many in there. I did get a couple of those pieces last time I was at the Lego store, was able to nest them together but still then had to use a lot of other smaller pieces around them to fill in the rest of the cup.
The same remote will work but it ends up being more annoying than you might think. If only some turn on when you press power, then pressing power again pointed at other ones could turn off the already on ones or if you ever want to only have one set of lights on or a certain color not letting others turns on becomes almost impossible. I have a lot of these cheap lights and the remotes even work for other lights that aren't even the same type which is even more annoying. So while they are generally fine I won't be spending my money on them again. I highly recommend "smart" ones that can be controlled by your phone instead. I only get Kasa brand ones these days and their LED strips are great. Not only are they way better quality but they are easier to control. AND instead of bad presets you can actually change the warmth of the lights to match the rest of your room. Yes, WAY more expensive also....Good luck :)
I would go with the under cabinet lights personally I think the led strip lights are a bit tacky and more suited for a teenagers gaming room/bedroom. I may only think this because my teenage daughters room is full of the led strip lights. You do what you think looks best for your set up .
This Cheap Amazon LEDs are OK, nice color effect, but that is it. If you want some proper quality brand LED strip lights, you will have to pay way more even 5+ times the price of this ones. More expensive LED strips are also much stronger, have more color accuracy and will give you the effect that you want. Light will bleed up and down way more, than this cheap LED strips from Amazon. Under Cabinet option is also good option. I use both for my LEGO room, with better quality LED strip lights under the shelf, like you have. But my LED strip can illuminate set below with no problem, really bright, but you have to buy really good LED strips.
Nice update mate have you thought about putting the strip light on the shelf pointing up rather than under it,it would realy make the sets on the shelfs stand out especially the titanic. Love your videos bro
The lights should be changing flours to signify day and night and there should lights in the street lights buildings and amusement park so that they show day and night. Just a suggestion!
If you're going use/buy the LED strips, I would recommend you the brand "Govee", quality per dollar in my opinion they're the best by far, the strips come in different sizes and all their products can be controlled by remote or the app on your phone one by one, or you can control all the products you bought simultaneously, also "Phillips" has a greater quality in their products and similar functions like "Govee" but they're more expensive.
The LED lights look good. I went to the Lego store last week and purchased the Black Panther helmet for 40% off and they gave me the two promotional sets you mentioned plus the bunny in a basket. I also picked up some bricks from the PaB wall.
I would recommend the ones that are working with something like google home or alexa or something. Then you can just say to turn all the lights on and its on. Then you don't have to manually turn them on one by one
i have some spare strip lights like you just installed, you gave me the idea of using them on my window above my lego Technic car display is. they are the battery ones which dont last too long, but will give it a go
Don't do batteries!! Trust me, I made that mistake and they died faster than what I liked. I have 3 sets, two in my son's room and one in my daughter's. I bought a receiver that works with the remote and can control up to 4 led straps. You can easily daisy chain them together and get them into 2 groups I think. If I can do it, you CLEARLY can do it!
Love the look of the extra lighting.. I'd highly recommend not getting battery powered lights, you'll end up charging them all the time until you just won't bother anymore
@bricksie you can buy pre wired LED strip lights for the pax wardrobes that fit perfect! They are called Oversidan. The you only other thing you need to power them is called Ansluta
I’ve used Govee lighting off Amazon for YEARS and doesn’t disappoint. Highly recommend their strip lights or any other lighting product they offer…has treated me VERY well!
Dude- Walmart and best buy also has them. 1 remote to control them ALL if it's the same brand. Pls do all shelves. and under the lego city table. Inder the above ground train tracks would be interesting
@bricksie Why not integrate actual lighting to the city? Streetlights that actually light up etc? Kind of a light my brick idea. Expensive option but I mean…. Talking about getting as close as possible to realism 😅
It is true that with the small lights, it could be nice but here, with Mickey & Minnie backlit, they are freaking out. The guy who doesn’t know where he comes in, he’s gonna freak out
I think you should take down the LEDs and use the AIBOO under cabinet LED puck lights kits they work great with my Lego city and my Lego sets on shelves as well
I don't think the LED strips solved the problem of the shelves casting a shadow.... Maybe if they were placed below the shelf It would be better, but those are kinda weak for the task. Maybe if you find a brighter strip it would be better
I have the LED strip lights on my shelves for my lego. I suggest I’d that route have them on the bottom of the shelf pointing down. It will light them up way better. I wish I could share a photo.

Ps I love the effect of the strip lights but agree it does cast enough light over the items below the shelves 🤔

I am always so jealous of other peoples PAB wall hauls. My local store hasn’t had a restock in months.
My country doesn't even have a Lego store.
Me too. I travelled 3 hours to a LEGO store and they had three empty rows and barely any decent pieces. 😢
Yea my "local store" is 3 hours away

custom small lights all in the city with a light up death star as the moon would look absolutely awesome
you could put the oval light bars mounted on the bottom of the shelf for light on the city
Mixture of white and blue tiles at the rock would give it a nice foamy look. I think that makes sense :)
Yes for the Lights
That PAB Wall is really nice this week.
Yeah, the staircase pieces are kind of awkward to put in a PAB cup and it can't fit many in there. I did get a couple of those pieces last time I was at the Lego store, was able to nest them together but still then had to use a lot of other smaller pieces around them to fill in the rest of the cup.
Keep the dark blue around the lighthouse to show depth and transition around it so it blends
The second Amazon set that lights the city, surely that’s the point.
And yes, the colour would be incredibly distracting.
The same remote will work but it ends up being more annoying than you might think. I love how you’ve set up the lighting and shelving! Great work man. Also, I wish my LEGO stores had better PAB selection like yours 😭
Use a combo of the two, that would look really good if planned and executed properly.
I like how the lights come up behide too
I would go with the under cabinet lights personally I think the led strip lights are a bit tacky and more suited for a teenagers gaming room/bedroom. I may only think this because my teenage daughters room is full of the led strip lights. You do what you think looks best for your set up .
looks great! How about moving the lighthouse to the corner where it would be in deep water and would add some height to that section.
i recommend Philips Hue for your whole basement. Pot lights and LED strips. They will all be linked together. Will only be a few thousand dollars 😆
Place the LED strip on the front, from the top. This allows you to highlight the sets on the shelves.
When you have added the light you could use the lights as the weather of the city to show different days
My wife got magnetic lights for our kitchen, they last for at least a week or so before charging. Might be a better way to go for the packs units.
This Cheap Amazon LEDs are OK, nice color effect, but that is it. If you want some proper quality brand LED strip lights, you will have to pay way more even 5+ times the price of this ones. Nice update mate have you thought about putting the strip light on the shelf pointing up rather than under it,it would realy make the sets on the shelfs stand out especially the titanic. Love your videos bro
I recommend getting some sort of smart light strip, you can get some pretty cheap ones and the results can be great
Oh I love you Mickey and Minnie brick sketches dude they look awesome. On the shelf
You should have lights giving light to the city on the bottom of the shelves, and color LEDs on the top of the shelves
The lights should be changing flours to signify day and night and there should lights in the street lights buildings and amusement park so that they show day and night. Just a suggestion!

Excellent work at the pab wall
I think the lights are epic keep up the work bricksie

The LED lights looking great behind the shelves. Gives a nice accent🤩🤩🤩
I like the new water you did well with the colour mix. Love your videos ❤
I would recommend the ones that are working with something like google home or alexa or something. Then you can just say to turn all the lights on and its on. Then you don't have to manually turn them on one by one
i have some spare strip lights like you just installed, you gave me the idea of using them on my window above my lego Technic car display is. they are the battery ones which dont last too long, but will give it a go
Keep these daily vids coming, make my morning everyday!
The lighting looks fire 🔥
How do you have such a good selection of pieces at your Lego store
Leds look savage
I like the idea of what you did and I like the led light
Looks good
It’s definitely still pretty dark under the shelving mayor double up a strip on top and in bottom?
Don't do batteries!! Trust me, I made that mistake and they died faster than what I liked. I have 3 sets, two in my son's room and one in my daughter's.
I bought a receiver that works with the remote and can control up to 4 led straps. You can easily daisy chain them together and get them into 2 groups I think. If I can do it, you CLEARLY can do it!
With the lights, maybe just wait till you move to the warehouse, even if it is awhile away, saves doing it twice
What if you you stick the led strip to the bottom of the shelf so the light directly spills over the city?
DANG MAN!! Those Cinnamon Rolls!! 🤤
Could you add lights to the middle support on the ceiling also and do like cotton fluff clouds
Nothing beats some PAB Wall goodness! Btw I bought my first modular thanks to you…Boutique Hotel.
Bricksie you finally down the road of lighting.
Eventually you’ll add lighting to the Lego buildings😊
Dude- Walmart and best buy also has them. 1 remote to control them ALL if it's the same brand. Pls do all shelves. and under the lego city table. Inder the above ground train tracks would be interesting
I recommend Apolo strip lights
You should go down the shelf it's started on and then go up and back across the shelf above. Then do another strip from else's castle to the titanic
Would it be easier to wait until you rent a warehouse since you have to remove everything from the shelves anyway?
the change in water looks MUCH better!
Jose is a saint for stacking bricks when she gets a moment away from the babies (Brickman works hard too).
Get grove light strips you can fully control them on a app you and there bright
Skip putting the lights in. It looks good the way it is. Concentrate on your backlog and projects 😁
@bricksie Why not integrate actual lighting to the city? Streetlights that actually light up etc? Kind of a light my brick idea. Expensive option but I mean…. Talking about getting as close as possible to realism 😅
you should definitely add lights to the top shelf like the one with the jurassic park set
Maybe if you find a brighter strip it would be better
awesome video jordan you should buy the landrover it looks amazing
Loving the content Jordan! Thank you!
Your videos always give me ideas of things I can add in my mocs
Batteries deteriorate with each charge cycle, eventually they'll only last half as long on before needing recharge forcing replacement purchases.
Try LED pick lights under the shelves that would shine down on the temple and city.
Well done to the oilers for their victory over the kings - but e joy these vlogs thank you Jordan for the effort you put into them 😊
What if you ran the lights under the raised train line?
What is the huge color full Lego tower the one with many names on it l search many of your room tour but you don't mention it?
Yeah go for strong lighting
If I was living close to LEGO Store I will go there for sure twice a month
You were lucky they had some good bricks at your Lego store - stairs, for example, are hideously expensive if you buy them on Bricklink. Great vid.
Nooooo the UP house should be left in the city! Also, was the Disney train station not in the city before?
It is a nice hoodie!
Are those pick a bricks the same for all stores?
Does the lego store do cups of bricks every day or only certain days?
Have you heard about the new cardboard pick-a-build containers?
I’d do disco lighting. But that’s just me cos you can go by the mood u feel while u do Lego
New lights look cool rr cuite Stella in door pab time awesome vlog
What type of shelves are these?
