I think this move for a separate constitution and flag will do more harm than good for the Nagas and everyone around them. The fact of history says that "Nagaland" was never a part of the British Raj but the reality is that we are now a part of India and have been for more than 50+ years. Please don't be fooled fellow Nagas because the NSCN and other Naga groups have their own agendas. The biggest problem in Nagaland today is that you can buy people's opinion with a little bit of money; in my own colony I see young people my age being paid money to vote and influence people to vote for a certain candidate. And what comes next? People complain about the roads, job opportunities, backdoor appointments, and just about anything else. To top that off we have the NSCN telling us that all Nagas need to be reunited into a greater Nagalim. We are dependent on other states for essential commodities, and we are stuck up on this issue? If we had our act straight then I'd understand but Nagaland is a failed state considering all the money that's been coming in from the centre for development. And the NSCN instead of trying to make life better for Naga people are illegally taxing people/businesses for what? Automatic rifles and building mansions and businesses of their own? In the initial years the Naga issue made tremendous stride. Nagaland became a state and that was a big achievement however I don't understand what more the NSCN really wants. We have our own customary laws that Indian law does not infringe upon, people cannot even buy land "legally" if they are not naga, we have reservation under ST but still I don't understand what more do we need to be fulfilled. And as far the "discrimination" argument goes. Please let's be honest, everybody on the face of this earth has prejudices against another group of people. I've personally called "chinky" and been asked "do you guys eat dogs or humans?" multiple times and also been looked at a different way because of the way I look. Been there, done that. It sucks but that's the reality of life. If people can hate and crucify Jesus, you best believe you can be too. You can either choose to be a victim or rise against all the odds and make something of your life. Everybody is a racist in one way or the other, get used to that. Freedom comes at a price and it's not monetary. If I had really seen valid good reasons to be behind the cause I would but I've looked into the situation and issues myself instead of listening to someone else's opinion and I wish my fellow Nagas are doing the same. We can differ on our views but I only want what's best for Nagaland.
Bro nothing wrong asking for special rights but how the center is going to carve out places form other states like Arunachal, Manipur ? Is that even sensible? Will they agree even if GOI agrees to? Nothing sensible in these demands.

And the problem is that the other states won't give up their land and if that's the case, it's not like these people can come into Nagaland and inhabit it because there are already 16+ tribes here with some not even having their own districts (each tribe has a district) so that's just a recipe for disaster. I don't have all the answers, hoping that God will sort it out for the better.
Would have been better if Nagas had asked GOI for central Universities like IIT, IIM, AIIMS. The institutions with size of these would have created massive income opportunities for ppl of Ur state.
@@nirmalmallick3349 the issue is that people (common man) here are dependent upon govt jobs mostly. There are exceptions but for the most part it's white collar jobs and that needs to change. Maybe in the future opening up these institutes would be beneficial however as of right now there needs to be a mentality change first of all and then different sectors opening up to provide better/alternative jobs. This is also one of the reasons why the govt is failing, people are being lured by the money (which is an important aspect of any job) but they are not improving the conditions, just going the the motions that's it

As a young educated naga from Nagaland I have always been confused as to whether I should support or oppose the freedom movement of my forefathers. On one hand I want to be an indian and be part of the growth and prosperity and believe in the vision and ideals which the constitution of India promises. But on the other hand when I read comments or hear news about discrimination towards my people for the way we look,our culture,our food,our religion etc it makes me think maybe freedom from india is what's best for nagas in the long run. And also one of the main reasons why many educated nagas like myself don't join the naga political struggle this days is because of the blatant abuse of power, corruption,taxes, killings from the so called present freedom fighters. And I agree with R.N Ravi when he labelled them "gangsters". If stong, honest, dependable leaders start filling the ranks of the naga freedom movement the G.O.I will have a very big problem in their hands.
The most effective solutions to these problems are education of the masses and intermingling of different people from all regions of India. It's a slow and painful process to be truly pluralistic esp in a country of more than 1.3 billion people that remained poor post independence because of all the stupid socialist policies. But things are improving, imo.
I don't understand the "freedom" logic. It's like asking freedom from UN or freedom from Earth. You are part of a multiethnic and multicultural nation. You got your own state. Guys, from my first comment I have implied clearly that at present I see no logical reason to separate from india only an emotional one. Many nagas(sp. older generations) hold bitter resentment against the indian army in particular for the past atrocities committed which makes the present discrimination sound like joke ( and I agree most Indians are not racist). I'm not saying NSCN or any other organisations are right or wrong for asking separate flag and constitution but the past experience,the present scenario with bjp at the helm warrants a concern for the future. @Vikas Khetan we known how easily those "special rights" can be taken away as has been the case with kashmir. Don't get me wrong I respect india and everything it stands for but surely you must understand it will take time for nagas to feel "indian". But it is happening though slowly. The thing with Muivah group (NSCN IM) is that their tribes base is out of the current Nagaland boundary. And most of the Nagas tribes from the current Nagaland boundary want to have a peaceful settlement. But Muivah keeps on dragging his feet as a peaceful settlement without the annexure of naga populated areas from neighbouring states would mean no political clout. At 86, he basically should leave these fantasies and focus on the future of Nagas and stop this charade

Seperate flag and constitution is a seed of separatism already we have seen in Jammu and Kashmir and if they tell they will work for India with this it is a complete hypocrisy. In fact, we are liberal people with a liberal constitution. We are not like China and Pakistan. Were they change demographics and cultures. Can we know what restrictions we are putting on you people? India is not ruled by a single ethnicity like in the case of china(han) and Pakistan(Punjabis). I would say if possible even a naga can become a minister of India like Kiren Rijiju of Arunachal. These groups will never learn and follow their own hearts and desires even if they cause more destruction than good. A good kuki friend of mine from Imphal said the same thing, that these groups create trouble and all of the people suffer because of that. There is already a Nagaland and I live in it. @subhadeep mandal I cannot speak on behalf of everyone but majority of the people here do not abuse people from the mainland it's only a few that taints the name of everyone. Like these NSCN groups who through their ideology spew this discriminatory rhetoric towards the mainland people based on physical appearance, culture and religion. If you come to Dimapur, Nagaland you will see that there are Christians, Muslims and Hindus all living together in peace. If you have siblings then you know then it's not all sunshine and rainbows with them as well and likewise just because we are collectively called "the seven sisters" it does not mean that there are differences of opinions when it comes to complicated issues like the Naga issue. The term "Naga" is very broad and Naga people live all through Assam, Arunachal, Manipur, Nagaland and Burma so the people of Nagaland are getting a bad name because of the NSCN (Naga Manipur dominated) so of course we have to condemn illegal activities carried out by them. Just because we condemn something doesn't mean we hate them, the people of Nagaland have their own rights too like every citizen to voice out their concerns don't they? The NE region in terms of culture is vastly different than that of mainland India but we still are proud to be Indians and the problem is that the rest of India does not know much about us but we know so much about them. So what does that say about how people of the NE are perceived by the rest of India? There are bad people on both sides but until and unless you try to find and meet genuine people you will always have a tainted view of the other side.
During 1962 the Naga militant leaders didn't joined China nor they declared independence, while they had better weapons and strategic advantage over Indian forces to declare independence but they didn't. And the answer is pretty evident Naga identity, culture and heritage will survive within India. Nagaland won't survive as an independent nation they'll have same fate as Tibet. Their elders were wise and knew the reality that but today's gullible social media warriors have no idea of reality what so ever.
This is where you are wrong. All "wise" elders voted to be independent but it was Nehru who used aggressive force. The leader of movement lived in exile till his death.

Indian forces were outnumbered and using outdated equipments thier movement was towards China border and later during 1971 war also Naga didn't used the opportunity to declare independence. Naga militia would have easily claimed independence on many occasions with assurances from china but they restrained from doing so. Cause they knew it's impossible for Nagaland to survive outside the federation of India. You can watch Shekhar Gupta's Cut the Clutter episode on the same issue. Sikkim too realised the Chinese hostility and joined India.

Nobody is calling all Nagas a gangster. There are many who are doing fantastic work - joining civil services, setting up startups etc. But those who are kidnapping and demanding extortion leading to divergence of funds meant for public work are certainty gangster. I am sure Nagas and Hindus being historical civilizations have immense wisdom to sort things out in a mutually respectful and non-violent manner. So it's clear as Crystal you cannot cede or annex an area without the consent of sovereignty of India and also for that stakeholders which are the core 16 tribe of nagaland. Therefore the idea of intergrating all nagas in Manipur, Assam, arunachal ,Myanmar is not practical as this will destroy the very fabric of India constitution. I understand your struggle and sentiments. But, India is a federal republic, it cant have a seperate constitution and flag at state level by its design. What ever you want in your constitution, can't you have it in your state assembly laws? If you don't like indian army in your territory, raise several regiments from only nagaland and induct them in indian army to serve you. Nagaland needs to fully integrate into india, but naga people need some time to that point. Till then a rapid economic development and urbanisation of nagaland is needed.
It's a little more complicated than my comment and your reply. Nagas have been fighting for past 60, 70 years and at no point do we see Nagas giving up the struggle because India is a federal republic state. In fact, we are fighting for full independence. And at this point, both parties have come to the mutual understanding where the only honorable and amicable solution is through shared sovereignty. If this is possible, a separate flag, separate constitution, a separate passport, etc will also be possible.

The irony of Dimasas 'for that matter the whole of Dimasa territory and DIMAPUR is used by the Nagas' to infringe upon their rights and privileges for the rights of the Nagas' and their constitution. “Naga Issue” pertaining to the unification of all Naga Inhabited areas of Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh or even Kachin of Myanmar together with present Nagaland into one umbrella call “Nagalim” is indeed a very Complex Geopolitical issue in South Asia. Although I’m not a Naga but have been experiencing it since my childhood days in Manipur and Nagaland. We can’t deny the fact that Nagas have the glorious history and their fight for this important cause started before India’s Independence. There has been series of incidents that have killed hundreds and thousands of Nagas as well as the Indian Forces. This should have been resolved long time during those days of 1947 where adjoining States political boundaries were not demarcated or were not even in Indian Union. Afterall this one main reason is lack of unity and understanding among various tribes or faction of Nagas group and those days Govt of India in not taking this matter seriously. Reason of complexity if Nagalim comes into effect is as follows: 1) Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh will start burning as they do not want to lose any inch of land. 2) All States are interconnected so co-existence will be an issue as there are many other tribes mainly Kukis will start another protest as they already have been blaming for ethnic cleansing in then Senapati district (Now Kangpokpi District) & Ukhrul. They already have started demanding Kukiland. 3) Meiteis the valley dwellers will start another protest.. same will happen in Assam & Arunachal Pradesh Owing to all these reasons there is complexity of the Naga issue and almost all the predecessors/ Govt of India have been lingering this issue for long. And trying to only show off that they’re there for Nagas peace. But all in vain. I wish and hope this issue is solved amicably by keeping all stakeholders together so there won’t be another turmoil in North East. Indian mainland medias and bureaucrats shouldn’t ignore this important issue and should give priority before it goes out of hand. I think this move for a separate constitution and flag will do more harm than good for the Nagas and everyone around them. The fact of history says that "Nagaland" was never a part of the British Raj but the reality is that we are now a part of India and have been for more than 50+ years. Please don't be fooled fellow Nagas because the NSCN and other Naga groups have their own agendas. The biggest problem in Nagaland today is that you can buy people's opinion with a little bit of money; in my own colony I see young people my age being paid money to vote and influence people to vote for a certain candidate. And what comes next? People complain about the roads, job opportunities, backdoor appointments, and just about anything else. To top that off we have the NSCN telling us that all Nagas need to be reunited into a greater Nagalim. We are dependent on other states for essential commodities, and we are stuck up on this issue? If we had our act straight then I'd understand but Nagaland is a failed state considering all the money that's been coming in from the centre for development. And the NSCN instead of trying to make life better for Naga people are illegally taxing people/businesses for what? Automatic rifles and building mansions and businesses of their own?
In the initial years the Naga issue made tremendous stride. Nagaland became a state and that was a big achievement however I don't understand what more the NSCN really wants. We have our own customary laws that Indian law does not infringe upon, people cannot even buy land "legally" if they are not naga, we have reservation under ST but still I don't understand what more do we need to be fulfilled.
And as far the "discrimination" argument goes. Please let's be honest, everybody on the face of this earth has prejudices against another group of people. I've personally called "chinky" and been asked "do you guys eat dogs or humans?" multiple times and also been looked at a different way because of the way I look. Been there, done that. It sucks but that's the reality of life. If people can hate and crucify Jesus, you best believe you can be too. And the problem is that the other states won't give up their land and if that's the case, it's not like these people can come into Nagaland and inhabit it because there are already 16+ tribes here with some not even having their own districts (each tribe has a district) so that's just a recipe for disaster. Maybe in the future opening up these institutes would be beneficial however as of right now there needs to be a mentality change first of all and then different sectors opening up to provide better/alternative jobs. This is also one of the reasons why the govt is failing, people are being lured by the money (which is an important aspect of any job) but they are not improving the conditions, just going the the motions that's it

I have never come across in my life preaching by missionaries to hate mainland Indians. People are very smart to write without having a basic knowledge of the issues.
As a young educated naga from Nagaland I have always been confused as to whether I should support or oppose the freedom movement of my forefathers. On one hand I want to be an indian and be part of the growth and prosperity and believe in the vision and ideals which the constitution of India promises. But on the other hand when I read comments or hear news about discrimination towards my people for the way we look,our culture,our food,our religion etc it makes me think maybe freedom from india is what's best for nagas in the long run.
And also one of the main reasons why many educated nagas like myself don't join the naga political struggle this days is because of the blatant abuse of power, corruption,taxes, killings from the so called present freedom fighters. And I agree with R.N Ravi when he labelled them "gangsters". If stong, honest, dependable leaders start filling the ranks of the naga freedom movement the G.O.I will have a very big problem in their hands.
The most effective solutions to these problems are education of the masses and intermingling of different people from all regions of India. It's a slow and painful process to be truly pluralistic esp in a country of more than 1.3 billion people that remained poor post independence because of all the stupid socialist policies. But things are improving, imo.
I don't understand the "freedom" logic. It's like asking freedom from UN or freedom from Earth. You are part of a multiethnic and multicultural nation. You got your own state. You enjoy the freedom of movement and freedom of employment. You have a variety of choices. You also have your own state with "special rights". You are enjoying everything this country provide but are aspirational for everything which will erode all these rights from you?

Guys, from my first comment I have implied clearly that at present I see no logical reason to separate from india only an emotional one. Many nagas(sp. older generations) hold bitter resentment against the indian army in particular for the past atrocities committed which makes the present discrimination sound like joke ( and I agree most Indians are not racist). I'm not saying NSCN or any other organisations are right or wrong for asking separate flag and constitution but the past experience,the present scenario with bjp at the helm warrants a concern for the future.

Don't get me wrong I respect india and everything it stands for but surely you must understand it will take time for nagas to feel "indian". But it is happening though slowly. The state is like a political church and there are certain boundaries which shouldn't be crossed. That is for all group. The thing with Muivah group (NSCN IM) is that their tribes base is out of the current Nagaland boundary. And most of the Nagas tribes from the current Nagaland boundary want to have a peaceful settlement. But Muivah keeps on dragging his feet as a peaceful settlement without the annexure of naga populated areas from neighbouring states would mean no political clout. At 86, he basically should leave these fantasies and focus on the future of Nagas and stop this charade

I am from Telangana, I don't even know the history of Tamil Nadu. In fact, we are liberal people with a liberal constitution. We are not like China and Pakistan. Were they change demographics and cultures. Can we know what restrictions we are putting on you people? India is not ruled by a single ethnicity like in the case of china(han) and Pakistan(Punjabis). I would say if possible even a naga can become a minister of India like Kiren Rijiju of Arunachal.

If you have siblings then you know then it's not all sunshine and rainbows with them as well and likewise just because we are collectively called "the seven sisters" it does not mean that there are differences of opinions when it comes to complicated issues like the Naga issue. The term "Naga" is very broad and Naga people live all through Assam, Arunachal, Manipur, Nagaland and Burma so the people of Nagaland are getting a bad name because of the NSCN (Naga Manipur dominated) so of course we have to condemn illegal activities carried out by them. Just because we condemn something doesn't mean we hate them, the people of Nagaland have their own rights too like every citizen to voice out their concerns don't they?
The NE region in terms of culture is vastly different than that of mainland India but we still are proud to be Indians and the problem is that the rest of India does not know much about us but we know so much about them. So what does that say about how people of the NE are perceived by the rest of India? There are bad people on both sides but until and unless you try to find and meet genuine people you will always have a tainted view of the other side.
During 1962 the Naga militant leaders didn't joined China nor they declared independence, while they had better weapons and strategic advantage over Indian forces to declare independence but they didn't. And the answer is pretty evident Naga identity, culture and heritage will survive within India. Nagaland won't survive as an independent nation they'll have same fate as Tibet. Their elders were wise and knew the reality that but today's gullible social media warriors have no idea of reality what so ever.

Indian forces were outnumbered and using outdated equipments thier movement was towards China border and later during 1971 war also Naga didn't used the opportunity to declare independence. Cause they knew it's impossible for Nagaland to survive outside the federation of India. You can watch Shekhar Gupta's Cut the Clutter episode on the same issue. Sikkim too realised the Chinese hostility and joined India.

Let the people of nagaland be left alone as they are the 16th state under India constitution. I understand your struggle and sentiments. But, India is a federal republic, it cant have a seperate constitution and flag at state level by its design. What ever you want in your constitution, can't you have it in your state assembly laws? If you don't like indian army in your territory, raise several regiments from only nagaland and induct them in indian army to serve you. Nagaland needs to fully integrate into india, but naga people need some time to that point. Till then a rapid economic development and urbanisation of nagaland is needed.
Also, flag can have 2 sides, oneside can be indian , other naga.

Nagas have been fighting for past 60, 70 years and at no point do we see Nagas giving up the struggle because India is a federal republic state. In fact, we are fighting for full independence. And at this point, both parties have come to the mutual understanding where the only honorable and amicable solution is through shared sovereignty. If this is possible, a separate flag, separate constitution, a separate passport, etc will also be possible.
Kazato Assumi , i see your point. But, if this is allowed, it will set a dangerous precident. You should already know about kashmir. With all due respect, i feel you should ask all the laws you want amended in the constitution for your requirements. In a way, it should be that, indian constitution guarentees naga constitution, so though you have your constitution, you still accept the indian constitution. The solution should reflect that, nagas are joining the indian union but not that indian is occupying or supressing naga people.

The irony of Dimasas 'for that matter the whole of Dimasa territory and DIMAPUR is used by the Nagas' to infringe upon their rights and privileges for the rights of the Nagas' and their constitution. “Naga Issue” pertaining to the unification of all Naga Inhabited areas of Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh or even Kachin of Myanmar together with present Nagaland into one umbrella call “Nagalim” is indeed a very Complex Geopolitical issue in South Asia.
Although I’m not a Naga but have been experiencing it since my childhood days in Manipur and Nagaland. We can’t deny the fact that Nagas have the glorious history and their fight for this important cause started before India’s Independence. There has been series of incidents that have killed hundreds and thousands of Nagas as well as the Indian Forces. This should have been resolved long time during those days of 1947 where adjoining States political boundaries were not demarcated or were not even in Indian Union. Afterall this one main reason is lack of unity and understanding among various tribes or faction of Nagas group and those days Govt of India in not taking this matter seriously.
Reason of complexity if Nagalim comes into effect is as follows:
1) Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh will start burning as they do not want to lose any inch of land.
2) All States are interconnected so co-existence will be an issue as there are many other tribes mainly Kukis will start another protest as they already have been blaming for ethnic cleansing in then Senapati district (Now Kangpokpi District) & Ukhrul. They already have started demanding Kukiland.
3) Meiteis the valley dwellers will start another protest.. same will happen in Assam & Arunachal Pradesh
Owing to all these reasons there is complexity of the Naga issue and almost all the predecessors/ Govt of India have been lingering this issue for long. And trying to only show off that they’re there for Nagas peace. But all in vain.
I wish and hope this issue is solved amicably by keeping all stakeholders together so there won’t be another turmoil in North East.
Indian mainland medias and bureaucrats shouldn’t ignore this important issue and should give priority before it goes out of hand. I personally want that Nagas must achieve their long standing demands and may peace prevail in Northeast. Best of luck for Nagalim. Kuknalim 🙏

The hoho is a bluff created by this NSCN (IM) which is itself dominated by Tungkhul tribe of Manipur, just to divert attention and hold power as long as they can.
