I've read bad stories of people being left behind, and the captain still not allowing them on board, even though it was in his power to allow it, without causing any inconvenience. To me that is very bad hospitality.

Norwegian's response will certainly be scrutinized, but it is an all-around unfortunate situation with no perfect solution. While within the captain's power perhaps, it could actually be a major inconvenience to continue delaying the departure. It also might be viewed as establishing an unwanted precedent and, most importantly, creating a safety risk. For those unfamiliar with the situation, here is the response from an NCL spokesperson: "On the afternoon of March 27, 2024, while the ship was in São Tomé and Príncipe, an African island nation, eight guests who were on the island on a private tour not organized through us missed the last tender back to the vessel, therefore not meeting the all aboard time of 3 p.m. local time. While this is a very unfortunate situation, guests are responsible for ensuring they return to the ship at the published time, which is communicated broadly over the ship's intercom, in the daily communication and posted just before exiting the vessel." The spokesperson added that the passports for the passengers who did not return at the all aboard time "were delivered to the local port agents to retrieve when they returned to the port, as per the regular protocol."

@@TheCruiseWeb This is taken from the stuff news website it reads:
When they reached the port, Campbell said the ship was still anchored, and the island’s coast guard took them on a boat to a ship in order to get back onboard. The captain then allegedly refused to let them board. "The Harbor Master tried to call the ship. The captain refused the call," Jay Campbell told WRAL."We sent emails to Norwegian Cruise Line, the NCL customer service emergency number, and they said, well, the only way for us to get in touch with the ship is to send them e-mails, and they're not responding to our emails. “The captain could have made an easy decision to turn one of the tender boats back, pick us up, safely load us and then go on the way,” Campbell said.“They had no port to call for the next day, they were simply going to be at sea.”
This just shows how cold the captains heart was to it's guests. Especially seeing the people could've easily boarded the ship as the harbour master delivered them to the ship. It wasn't a safety issue.
Personally I would never take up a holiday with these people, because how assuring is it to know that the people who are looking after you, will go out of their way for you if the situation called for it.

Why post about a 2016 refurbishment in 2023?

Fair question! In this case, we were simply reposting existing content while moving a video from one media platform to UA-cam. Sorry for the confusion!
