I'm from Scotland where bagpipes is a traditional instrument and what this young woman has said is TRUE. You do NOT need your mouth constantly on the mouth piece, the air is in the bag and you use your arm to squeeze the air out as you play the notes. Once the bag starts to deflate that is when you put your mouth back on the mouth piece to fill the bag back up, the air doesn't come out of the mouthpiece it stays in the bag. I think your doing an amazing job at playing the bagpipes and it warms my heart to see someone of your age taking up the bagpipes, which isn't an easy instrument to learn and play. You play it beautifully, don't let these people bother you when they know nothing of the instrument. Keep up the good work, your amazing

Only thing I can say is it's not natural born anything if that was the case she would have been born with it. This is the result of nothing more than her personal dedication and learned skill. This reminds me of last Memorial day when a friend of mine thought the guy on TV playing Taps on the trumpet was faking it because he didn't move his fingers when the notes changed. He had no idea Taps was a bugle call and there was no need to change your finger position. Some people just want to talk about stuff they know nothing about. In your case I'm sure it's just jealousy.
Not to argue with you. But there was a story on the news. About not enough buglers to attend. The amount of military funerals. A few years ago. They do have a bugle that has taps pre-recorded into it.

Simply said: the "Breathing" is done with the arm around the bagpipe, the lungs are just a "pump" to inflate that bag. There's quite a lot of reserve capacity in that bag. Depending on the drones, and the chanter there is only so much air being used. A good pair of lungs can be able to provide more air than needed, so there is no need to continuously put air in the bag, too much air in the bag also makes it more difficult to regulate the air out to the drones/chanter (I was told)
I have run sound for multiple shows that this lovely person was in, I have seen Ally perform live and can 100% attest to her skill. There is nothing fake about her.

You've got me hooked. Well, not entirely. My brothers grew up playing the drums, lead guitar, and base guitar. They and my parents tried really hard to get me to play something, even the piano. However, at some point, I'd been influenced by the pipes. All I ever wanted to do was just stand in a field and make silly sounds until I made the right sounds. I think you're great and wonderful and just keep on going. I love the bagpipes and I'm 65 and I just started working on the chanter. I started on the tin whistle now I'm on the chanter and I hope in about 6 months I will be on small pipes. And I don't know when I will be ready for the great highland pipes but I watching all these wonderful teachers I now have on the internet Matt Willis is wonderful and so is another guy get ready for bagpipes and maybe to prove your talent one of the highest callings is maybe you could do some teaching videos then they'll all have to believe you

I am a bagpiper of several decades standing and have been taught by some of the worlds best ever pipers (not that that makes me any great shakes!). Ally has a great technique and expertise that allows her to express both traditional and new generation bagpipe music to an accomplished degree. This makes me think of Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson`s response to the moon launch being faked. Short version is that it would have cost so much time effort and money to fake all the things that people actually witnessed that it would have been easier and cheaper to just go to the moon.

You've got me hooked. Well, not entirely. My brothers grew up playing the drums, lead guitar, and base guitar. They and my parents tried really hard to get me to play something, even the piano. However, at some point, I'd been influenced by the pipes. All I ever wanted to do was just stand in a field and make silly sounds until I made the right sounds. The sad thing is at 52, until I watched your videos, I didn't know you could take your mouth off the pipe. I had to look up how bagpipes work to figure out how that worked. How did I never notice that before? Keep up the good work Ally!

I paid my dues competing in the US, Canada and Scotland, in both solos and bands. I have taught some talented students and bands, and studied under the greatest pipers. You are the real deal - love your creativity as well as your talent.

I think you're great and wonderful and just keep on going. I love the bagpipes and I'm 65 and I just started working on the chanter. I started on the tin whistle now I'm on the chanter and I hope in about 6 months I will be on small pipes. And I don't know when I will be ready for the great highland pipes but I watching all these wonderful teachers I now have on the internet Matt Willis is wonderful and so is another guy get ready for bagpipes and maybe to prove your talent one of the highest callings is maybe you could do some teaching videos then they'll all have to believe you

A comment for everybody else out there as well.. I am a bagpiper of several decades standing and have been taught by some of the worlds best ever pipers (not that that makes me any great shakes!). Ally has a great technique and expertise that allows her to express both traditional and new generation bagpipe music to an accomplished degree. Any comments regarding breathing technique are completely invalid. Hope this sheds some light on the matter.

This makes me think of Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson`s response to the moon launch being faked. Short version is that it would have cost so much time effort and money to fake all the things that people actually witnessed that it would have been easier and cheaper to just go to the moon.
