Pete I smile each time I see, as you call him "little man" out there with you. He's going to be giving lessons before long. He's a stud in that kayak. You're raising a fine young man Pete. Enjoy my friend he'll be 12 today and 40 tomorrow. GREAT work Pete.
Honor and a privilege to hang out with greatness. It does not take long being around P5 to realize he is a very intelligent, and skilled young man! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us
Thanks for the kind words Lee! However, getting to know folks like yourself makes all this worth the while. P5 really enjoyed hanging out with you talking lizards and such. LOL. Thanks for the invite to come down and we look forward to the next time we can get on the water together!
Love the information on tangling with the rafts. It’s a real thing… I paddled the Salmon River in August of 2018 and we went down with an Action Whitewater group. I was on flat moving water chatting with some folks one day and wasn’t paying attention and I got right next to the raft on the upstream side and the water sucked me under that raft so fast I didn’t have time to think. It was unnerving. Stay away from the rafts!!
I got beat up by M-wave this week and wish I had footage to review! Got stuck similar to at 28:50 but didn’t feel confident enough to try roll and it was no fun swimming down the next bit 😅 Really enjoyed being able to watch the run multiple times with your commentary. Super cool to see it in slow-mo too!
I’m wondering how long it will be before P5 posts a video explaining all of the things P4 could have done just a little differently. I don’t think we will have to wait long! Another great video guys!
Thanks FloridaYak Adventures! He has more than plenty of material to work with there! LOL. It has been so fun to watch him progress. He learns so fast!
Another good one. I like the way the wilderness channel looks. Hard to tell but from video it appears to be a little bigger than the recreation channel at Riversports Rapids in OKC but still friendlier than OKC comp channel.
@@RiverKingsKayak pretty far out of your way but a convenient pit stop if you make a trip out west. They're hosting some ICF competitions this weekend www.riversportokc.org/events/oklahoma-paddlesport-festival/
Now that I've experienced the big pushy water of a WW center I realize just how much different rapids look on a UA-cam video than in person. Loving this sport and looking forward to making a trip out to TN and NC. Hopefully next year if all the pieces come together.
So i tried to google, but i couldn't find an answer. So i am in Colorado, Thinking of flying out for a long weekend at USNWC but need to rent a boat when i get there. It doesn't look like the center rents boats. Is there somewhere around you know people can get demo's/rentals?
It is akin to how your boat performs with a tight, snug, connected fit vs a loose poorly outfitted fit. Basically if you lock that boat in to your core, you will prevent the boat from being subjected to all the weird, confused water and currents that will be hitting the boat from all directions. It is commonly referred to as the lock in. You should try it sometime. I was amazed when I first learned of this and saw how well it worked. if your boat is loose and your core is loose, then each little wave, slosh, etc can start pushing the boat around. It doesn't take very much and before you know it, you will have bled your boat's energy off and are now sitting in the soup...Hope this makes sense!
P5 is my hero… mind so’s p4 but don’t tell him that…. (There’s one or two others on this list of Yaking hero’s but they have there own channel and boat company)… much love … merlin (shame rk merch is not internationally delivered :()
Thanks a ton for the kind words Merlin! I am kinda partial to P5 myself. He is just such a natural. For him, kayaking is just another thing he does. It is not his only passion or something he lives for. It just comes easily to him. For me, I just get to have fun with my little man in a way I could have only dreamed of! PM me on Facebook about that merch...

You and P5 make it look easy, y'all are some awesome whitewater paddlers, P5 is following daddy's paddle strokes for sure.
Thanks a ton Carla! It has been just the most fun to do this with him!

They have always rented boats. You will need all of your other gear, but unless there is something new for 2022, they will rent boats...
What class is this whitewater park?
Looks about class 3 to me, nothing too dangerous.
Class 1 on Instructional channel, class 2 and 3 on the Wilderness channel, and class 3/3+/big drop is a 4 on Comp channel.
2 for instructional, 2s and 3s for wilderness and 3+ for comp with a 4 at big drop
@@RiverKingsKayak M wave is a lot harder than Nantahala Falls....! Left some skin there from the concrete park rash, fun time though :)
Why/how does locking your knees and bracing your body shoot your kayak over big squirrelly water? Hope you do a video on that one day
