I ran out of tees on the last hole of my round. It was a 307 par 4. I took the risk and hit driver off the deck. Walked down the fairway after my shot. To my surprise the ball had a fantastic roll right on to the green. My first eagle ever! Thanks Rick. No way I could’ve done it without watching your videos!
This is really my first year golfing. Broke my 3 wood the other day, so on the long par 5s I got forced to play driver off the deck. And I don't know how but I can crush it off the deck. At least 250. I put it in the center of my stance, and closed the club face a bit to try to hit the sweet spot on the driver a bit. It carries low, but straight as an arrow. I can hit it better than my 3 wood for some reason.
Hey Rick Ive watched your videos for a while now but just came across this one and it's so cool because I've played at the reunion resort and it's so nice
The other tip for this for amateurs; if you hit a cut it’s easier to cover the ball. Coming from the inside and then releasing the club risks hitting the ground before the ball or hitting with a closed face and topping it much more. If you open your stance and go for a cut/fade, it’s much easier to get face to ball more squarely
Gawd, respect Mr Shiels. I don't even like hitting drivers off the tee, shudder. I don't think me and woods were made for each other, I just don't have any affinity with them. Yes I can use them but I just don't like using them. In fact, if I find I can absolutely rip my new Mizuno MP-H5 3 iron when it comes next week, I will be sorely tempted to replace my 3 wood with a 1 iron ;-)
I used to hit my old small head driver off the deck no worries, but the 460cc heads today seem so imposing off the deck. A shot for a good player only? I will try again on the range. That brookwater deck driver was awesome!!!
Driver is my best club and I hit it off the deck all the time. If I get a good one away then it goes 270-300yds, if its a bad one usually get about 180yd daisy cutter in the right direction. If I get a hook or a slice on my 3wood its usually a goner so its pretty much the percentage shot for me now to hit driver unless I'm needing height or something less than max distance.
Hey Rick. Love the channel such a huge fan of what you do. Would you do a head to head with the Taylormade Aeroburner Fairway Wood and the Callaway XR Fairway Wood, neither being the pro version. Thanks a bunch
i go to the driving range with my granddad and i do this at the driving range it goes straight and about 250 yards my granddad laughs everytime when i do it
I am a very average player with every thing in golf. My 3 wood launches like Rick's driver off the deck. I feel like I could get more height but don't know how (I have been on launch monitors and I hit down on the ball a bit with 3 wood)
I presume that if you hit a driver off the deck, you're going to hit the heel of the club, so Rick how you're getting such good distance, I have no idea P.S you're my favourite youtuber, many thanks for your videos
so I hit the driver off the deck phenomenaly 230 240 yards when in the fairway with a slight draw should I play that rather than my woods which by the way I cant hit for my life
biker bob I totally understand what you mean. Whenever I need a draw I play my 3w and anything else I play the driver. A high fade or straight driver off the deck is ideal for me. If you can control the draw with DOTD, then go for it. Play your game, and no-one else's.
I totally agree. I find The material the woods are made of these days aren’t very good like they used to be? My assumption. Even the pros seem to hook them quite often.
do you have objective data on your 260 / 270 assumption? ***** also nailed his driver off the deck but still it wasn't that far and not as far as his 3 wood.
I just bought an older 10.5 degree driver just for this purpose. Attack the par 5's. Of the 4 par 5's I want to be 2 under ....that's the plan at least , haha
I actually am pretty good at this shot, my AoA is a little downward anyway so it actually works good from 230-250, another note... don't hit this if you have a forced carry.
Yes, I golf. Both TaylorMade and Callaway have produced mini drivers, although Callaway call theirs a 1.5. Please don't swear, as children read these posts.
0:21 Me attempting to use my driver off the Tee
I'll hit a shot like this, then top my wedge 1 metre lol.

Bullshit
No way
😂😂 307 par 4? I would have just hit my 3 iron off the deck
@@jackjennings7221 is it that unbelievable 😂

I need a decent lie to tell my wife so I can go play golf.
Ask your wifes boyfriend for tips.
This kinda stuff right here keeps me from marriage

Kevin Haigh I'm curious did u manage to do it well
You said not to hit it out of the rough. You said you hit a driver out of the rough in your " my round went terribly wrong " in your players tour #4

Well demonstrated. Be good to see you do this on a launch monitor when you are back at the ranch!
Great work sir. Enjoyed this

Hi Rick, do you have the ball more to the back or front of your stance? Or middle?
you just triedd this at your recent competition. hahaha you even said dont try this out the rough
Just last week I was practicing hitting my driver off the deck and it was going alot longer than my hybrid

Orlando in the house!
Lets see this shot on your next course blog!
speterj Already has on one of the brookwater aussie vlogs!
Ha I just saw that!
Rick your a baby in this video 😂 it’s weird not seeing bearded Rick 😂
I'd love to see 2021 Rick make this video :-)
Seeing young Rick without a beard is wild
Bring back that slow motion editing baby loool
Madness, I’ve got to try it ! I will set my driver to 12.5 loft
Its baby Rick, aww.
lets see some dod in break 75
i love hitting on good roughs with my driver sometimes. but not all the time.
Rick… you were a baby.
How much difference should you get (yards) with this kind of shot vs 3 wood ?
The pros can hit 3w about 250-300. The average joe maybe not much over 200. But with Driver average joe can likely get 250-300 depending on the lie!
do you have objective data on your 260 / 270 assumption? ***** also nailed his driver off the deck but still it wasn't that far and not as far as his 3 wood.
Thanks For The Broken Club!

Ace Golfman did that idea work
Nice shots ... But that sound, that's not a Ping but a Plong
Wow!
The reason why tour pros are so good at driver off the deck is they on average hit 1 degree down with driver off the tee
I actually am pretty good at this shot, my AoA is a little downward anyway so it actually works good from 230-250, another note... don't hit this if you have a forced carry.
Shane Jones what's a forced carry
@@andym28, a forced carry would be a shot over water or a canyon, e.g., where you can't get away with a poor shot that runs along the ground.
“It needs a decent lie. Don’t hit it out of the rough”
Phil”yeah if you’re a pussy”
DAYUM!
So hit it like your long irons almost.
I hit the driver all the time miss 10 per cent of the time from under trees and out of short rough
Often when you’re playing five club golf, there is preferred lies because it’s in the winter and hence the shot becomes possible.
Whenever I try this at the range for a laugh I tend to slice it
same
Step 1. Pull driver from bag... Step 2. Purify ball with driver.
I've mastered this shot
Iworm_ _ any tips
young shiels
Hmm, my driver is 5 degrees. Think I'll give this shot a miss.
drewbiedrewbie My driver head in my gamer driver is 5 degrees and XXX stiff shaft and I can get it up in the air off the deck.
Dtyler171 No!
+CWB Researcher I switch out my 5 degree with a 50 wedge. No troll.
+CWB Researcher had the odd real par 4 green.
Why am I watching this? I can’t even hit it off a tee.
Now I see why you grew the beard.
How can you hit a driver off the deck when you struggle with a mini driver?
Michael Rolton That's what I said in his vlog. He killed a driver off the deck almost 300 yards.
Apology, I missed your comment in his vlog.
Do you even golf? What the fuck is a mini driver? Don't you mean a 3 wood or a 5 wood?
Yes, I golf. Both TaylorMade and Callaway have produced mini drivers, although Callaway call theirs a 1.5. Please don't swear, as children read these posts.
That’s a shot I will never try 😂
It will carry 260 cuz I’m so good
Yes, it can be done, check out Bubba Watson's driver off the deck, ua-cam.com/video/Qk-vJHjiXfE/v-deo.html
hitting it out of the rough would be easier
Next: Putter off the tee
To much gum work either you can or can't don't waste ppl time
Beardless Rick makes me uncomfortable
