I just love that seeing a grid of tiles with drawings of roads on them is enough to send NL into a rant about how he'd love to be a medieval peasant turning a mill for 16 hours a day. Not a hint of irony, those weird connections in his brain are why he's so endlessly entertaining.

Minesweeper was the first roguelike. Great to see it get the remaster it deserves.
Actually games like Beneath Apple Manor (1978) predates the original minesweeper (1983/90)

As a frequent minesweeper enjoyer, seeing NL make wrong calls but still stumble into the right solutions is quite a sight to behold.

Yeah I was just thinking the other day watching Balatro... We got a Chess roguelike, we got a slot machine roguelike, we got a Poker roguelike... Now a Minesweeper roguelike... What's left? A 3D Pinball roguelike maybe :P I was gonna say a Solitaire roguelike but I feel like that's already a thing
@@wangledteb5671 There is a 3d pinball adventure game, not a roguelike, but it has a fun story mode and the gameplay is fantastic, each character is a ball and they have different properties. I forgot how it's called sadly.

As for the knowing about the roads thing, it was evident from the previous screen. So people in chat could have known just by watching NL and being more observant than him.

@INStheRebel Makes sense you refunded it, but I don't think that's the univeral experience either. I've put like 60 hours into it without any crashes and haven't heard of it crashing for anyone til now

Just a quick aside, a lot of the mining in prisoner camps was for either gold for obvious reasons, or sulfur for gunpowder/explosives.
It's a fantastic premise and fantastic game

I'm like 90% sure NL was talking about the animation *style*, and not the themes of the shows. In other words, he's saying that he likes how this game looks, even though it reminds him of Steven Universe and Bob's Burgers (which I guess he doesn't like)

rougelike is the ultimate thing of nobody wants something new- they just want varieties of what they already like, and i think thats a good way of doing it with games
@@Blaurot honestly it's like one of two things for me now, either I want a super stylized roguelike with a unique premise, or I want a variety of the thing I already like lol.
I will say, I think it breathes new life into old games because it adds mechanics to them, and basically puts meta progression into something that was already run based (Minesweeper, Pinball, most High Score games are run based, hell all top down RLs are basically Asteroids lol) giving us that extra dopamine hit that they just wouldn't otherwise.
Like imagine if when Pac-Man came out, before every level you could choose different Power Pellet abilities and buy different perks for Pac-Man. Would've blown people's minds
