UPDATE: You actually DO NOT need to hook up wires from the power source to the extractor. They're wireless ☺
@@footthumb to prioritize extractors if you want to make sure it's always gonna be powered, ie: if one of the power source get destroyed, a random extractor is gonna stop working
Came here to ask this… thanks. Also if you run around with the outpost beacon out, it shows you what is in range.
@@footthumbI do it to make helium extractors priority for my generator and the international cargo
No particular comment or hint to add on the video guide which is obviously great, clear and informative, but just saying how nice it is to see so much positivity in the comments, from commenters and the OP replying and seemingly being such a good dude :D
Finally found a great video with a even great commentator!! thank you I needed this!
Been thru about 4-5 outpost building guides today yours was hands down the easiest to follow / learned the most from thanks
I'm not even a minute in and I can tell already this is going to be the most informative vid on outpost building. I saw shopping list and said "this guy gets it". Thank you sir!
@@IEatGames Of course! Spent a few hours just doing outpost stuff. Was overwhelmed but the vid definitely helped! Do you plan on doing any advanced outpost building vids in the future? Big fan of this format.
Some things in this system are intuitive (ie linking storage containers with machinery, power etc) but I had absolutely no idea how to access the outpost inventory from my ship until you showed it. Thoroughly hidden by Bethesda. Also, looks like supply lines will be most useful for picking a 'hub' outpost in the system to send stuff there, and build all the cool hab stuff in that one location. Great video!
I have 4 million credits even after giving a ton away on quests just from playing the game like I dont need money but im going to build an outpost for fun @@IEatGames

this tutorial is extremely easy to follow and absorb. I know it's not easy to do, so thank you for the extra effort and dedication to making such a comprehensive tutorial. hope to see more.
Great video! But just a note, you don’t have to set up to power wires, if you don’t connect them, everything that needs power will automatically receive it from the available power sources! The wires are good if you want to connect a power switch between your power source, and extractors to turn them off essentially! Say you have way too much iron filling your containers, you can turn the iron extractors off for a while until you need more :)
Came here to say this. You don’t need wires to power things, it just works automatically. Somehow lol. Don’t know how the logic works but yeah
Eternally greatful to creators taking the time to make these videos in a very thorough way for us. One of the parts of the game I've been intimidated by and same with understanding all aspects of ship building
Best vid i've seen on base building so far , everyone else just talks a bunch of shit and then takes you to a base they already build , Thanks a million for this vid
In my fallout 4 main playthrough, had all settlements connected via the drive-in. Loads of caravans of my supply runners would all meet there, help with raider attacks. I love they brought back supply lines for Starfield
@IEatGames excellent video on outposts, will subscribe for more like this. Thank you!
This video is the best outpost building on UA-cam. You explain things very well and so easy to follow. This is a very confusing system and with no direction from Bethesda, you will got crazy trying to figure this stuff out. Great video dude.
Thank you for this, absolutely the best explanation of how this works I've been watching a lot of people trying to understand better.
Great tutorial! and so cool to see those cargo ships landing down and dropping supplies off.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, saved me a lot of time. Appreciated 🤙🏽
this explained alot. I first just build extractors and stuff without connecting them and wondered why nothing was automatically going. thank you.
Best video on this subject I've seen. I've lamented that the outpost building is so complex so without arrows and highlights in any tutorial video a newb can't understand the process. Kudos and we'll done good sir!!
Separate note... Must a storage container in a supply chain be put before a transport container or can the extractor go right to a transport container without going to a storage container first?
Wow, thanks! Much appreciated! So, no, you do not have to put a storage container there. I like to do it because it will act as an overflow for the transport container.
Loved this and loved your enthusiasm. Can’t wait to build my galactic industrial empire tomorrow.
Great vid, one note i like to do, is instead of having your containers output to the transfer cargo to it the other way and have the incoming output to the transfer cargo. That way at your main base you have all your resources sorted in each little structure and you can make little chains if they get too full, i only say this because youll find 200 is way too small for holding your resources really fast
Instead of having containers output to transfer cargo have the incoming output go where?
@@Jer6my incoming to every main container or to the transfer container and have the transfer container output to all main containers
Dudeee thank you for posting this because i just started making my own bases but this really helps streamline ot
@@IEatGames where are you supposed to store extra minerals I have around almost 100 of all the common minerals that you can find around the planets and I am extremely overweight but if I try to put them even in the transfer containers or the small storage crates. It can hardly hold anything at all, including the one that you mentioned in the beginning of the v video
I am loving both of your "101" shipbuild video and this video. So much to do but so much not explained. All the extra things you have done, like listings and all the bullet points on the screen as the tutorial goes on. You aren;t a teacher by any chance are you...? LOL. Thanks so much for doing these. i hope you are having as much fun playing this as I am.
@@IEatGames Oh good. It was meant as such... I'm just selling a load of looted stuff at The Den... And once i've spent a while here building the credits up I am off to do the outpost... I've just picked up a job to supply one of the shipbuilding docks with 2,000 iron. So it's just what I need right now.
Oh yes.... And I got Assassins Creed - Mirage the other day so will be following along with you videos to.
Thank you for the informative video it was one of the best that helped... I am looking forward to watching more of your videos about starfield which could help my playing... 😊
Tyvm gonna use this as a storage depot! Very concise ty for the shopping list just show the doubled for the non-mathers shouldn’t be hard in excel even just a nit pick great vid!!!
Thanks for posting. I cannot figure out how to wire the objects. Most posts of this nature are for PC. So glad you posted one for Xbox
Best. Tutorial. Yet.
THANK YOU.
If I could subscribe 10x over, I would! Loving your content, mate!
Ur channel is pretty great, Mark. Thx for the amazing jog! Wish i knew it sooner!
Thank you for posting this - best explanation I've found.
Starfield's systems are difficult to learn to say the least - I set up my outpost and added some shields and storage to my Mantis in ship building this morning. TOOK 4 HOURS.
Just a couple of tips; make sure you're connecting from storage to transfer not vice versa like I did 😝.
Also ,in shipbuilding, clicking on the grid brings up purchase options. I wonder why Bethesda doesn't bother to tell you these things?
amazing video you solved my issue i'm thrilled with that.
'It's complicated, and the game does not do a good job of explaining things' should be the tagline for this game lol. Thanks for this vid, it was helpful.
I think we will also do well to build a a logistics hub outpost where all the mining outposts go and gather all the materials to a single link to your main base. (I found it annoying with even 3 separate linked ships landing constantly in my main base)
Yo I never thought I’d learn to do this I can’t wait to actually put it together
Love your vids. Just a tip if you just pull out an outpost it will show all resources in its range so instead of scanning you can just roam with the outpost and it will show all the resources in its range. I found a site with 4 resources on it with one being extremely rare. Love your vids tho.
+1 sub. Fantastic content, friend.
Cheers to you and your loved ones from Austin, Texas.
Thanks for the video. It's very helpfull.
You are welcome! My pleasure. Very happy to hear folks are still using this guide. :)
You don’t actually have to connect power wires to things unless u want that power grid to be separate from the overall base grid. Simply placing power generation devices will provide power to everything within the base boundary that requires power provided the amount produced meets or exceeds the amount needed.
Thanks for the tip - I realize that now as some folks have already mentioned it in the comments.
Narion is the beginner system where you start the game so its pretty convenient to start here.
Nothing about this game is intergalactic. You meant intersystem. Great video! You made something really complicated seem simple. Thumbs up
You don't need the wire to power the device. You just have to build the power for it to work. The wire comes into play when you want to use a switch and turn it off and on as needed, such as in fabrication. Love the video, though. Excellent presentation and teaching. 10/10
Thanks for the info! Yes, the wiring situation has been mentioned in the comments. Happy to hear you enjoyed the guide! :)
TIP if you want one outpost as a base of operation where you can store all your resources and do all sorts of research.
I figured out inventory management at an outpost. The few posts I saw yesterday didn't quite get me to this point. I'll take advice or suggestions if something is off, but all I can say is 'it works on my machine'.
It is possible to easily transfer all cargo from your ship to a huge supply of storage containers at an outpost.
Build all of the storage container types in different lines. Solid, liquid, gas, warehouse. You will likely need more solid containers than the others. Build multiple containers in a line but do not mix the container types in the same line (I had a bug that deleted all my items this way).
Build a Transfer Container
Build a Landing Pad w/ Ship Builder (so your ship can be in your base, this is a must)
Create 4 different output links (edit menu) from the Transfer Container to each of the 4 storage container types. If you have multiple containers for a given type, only use 1 link.
If you have multiple storage containers in a line, connect those containers as well with an output link. The link from the Transfer Container should be to the first container in the chain
Once you have that built interact with the Transfer Container and you should be able to cycle to your ship. You can transfer all resources from your ship to the Transfer Container. The output links will then separate the goods to the correct containers. If you need multiple containers, the output links between the containers will fill up the last container in the chain first.
You should be able to access anything in these containers from a crafting bench inside your outpost.
Great video! After some testing I've found that with the cargo link you do lose some stuff. I've only tested with helium-3, but the outpost producing it had 6 in the outgoing container but only 4 was delivered to the incoming container.
Interesting! I've not noticed a degradation like that, but I've also not looked for it. I'll check here on my side.
You make the best instructional videos. So supply lines are just for sending materials between outposts and aren’t necessary at first?
Thanks a lot for saying that! Yes, supply lines are for transporting minerals/elements from one base to another.
Thank you for the outline, already have 3 outposts between 2 systems but still was missing information
i have managed to get a spot with all resources except iron on the planet you use in this tutorial, i was very lucky as i got it on my first land. if you want me to post coordinates or some picture let me know the best way to do it and i will. thanks for the video buddy!
Easy way to check an area to see if it’s good for an outpost is to just pull out the outpost beacon. It’ll tell what resources will be available in that area in the top left corner when you’re holding the beacon.
This is some really cool shit, especially for someone like me whos playing their first Bethesda game (sounds like they do a lot of things the same or similar through the years), and really, GREAT FRIKIN JOB making this easy to understand. That in itself is not easy to do, so well done and THANK YOU! : )
I LOVE this video - you have to be a trainer in real life right? Amazing video - easy to follow and a huge resource for all players - love this video -- thank you
Excellent guide! The supply lines part was a bit confusing - not sure how to make one base transfer goods to another base, but guess I have to muck about in the game itself.
It's a lot to take in! Watch the supply line part again in case you missed a details. Essentially, build a cargo link from one base to a cargo link in another base. Make sure you output your minerals to the outgoing bin at the starting base, and it should show up in the incoming bin on the other end. Good luck!
FYI in Fallout 4 you had to choose a specific settler or robot to act as a caravan to link to a different settlement, and that settler or robot would actually travel between the two linked settlements, and could be attacked if you were in the cell with him / her / it.
So not as cool as a cargo ship, but probably a bit more immersive since there's no real explanation for where these ahips come from or why they cost you nothing.
Ah ok, that's right, Thanks for the reminder. Though nonsensical - i still love it.
@@IEatGames Yea, while I think that a good fictional universe requires a certain amount of internal logic, it is at the end of the day a game, and games should be fun.
Watching ships take off and land to deliver resources across your personal empire is FUN. Actual logistics planning is not very much fun.
@@thevoxdeus"Actual logistics planning is not very much fun"
Oof. Don't let the Factorio addicts hear you say that.
I found it helpful to have a base just for helium3 so you can maximize power output for all your other bases. (Best for intergalatic supply lines)
the UC distribution center in the commercial district on Jemison has way more resources if you're having trouble getting enough from Jemison Mercantile. only good thing about mercantile is you're close enough to fill your ships cargo right from that shop
I’ve noticed that certain materials only show up in certain biomes. Run along the edges of two biomes for a likelier chance to get more materials of each planet. I think I’ve got like 4-5 minerals in two of my outposts.
PRO tip: Look for a location where the iron is close to the green areas. Your goal is to land as close as possible to the mountains (iron) and crater (everything else) biomes. The resources tend to overlap along the line, and even if not it still possible to get all 4 in one outpost in this border area. Might take a few tries so I recommend saving before starting.
Only downside is (unless your VERY lucky) you will only have portion of the actual mineable areas at your disposal.
Still, all 4 and a decent amount of generation, good enough to start your mass outpost construction needs.
Wish this video covered the inter-system transport, still haven't figured out how to give it H3. I've tried everything I can think of
Great video so far.
Just jumping in here to ask how to go north east after I leave Jemison 😅
BIG TIP
when choosing a specific number of items, you can increase/decrease the slider faster by using the Left/Right bumper
Is there a way to increase the storage for the transfer container? looks like it'll get full very quickly with everything input into it
The issue i ran into was my ship would not land at the end of the supply line, it would be 300 to 500 meters away, so I would have to truck it each time. Additionally, the transfer station is too small...it doesnt make it worthwhile to set up if you can only pull 400 (mine is 400 for some reason) resources out that at best get you 2000 credits. Is there a better way to manage it so your 3000 capacity cargo ship can take 1 full load at a time?
Same issues here always landing out of range for the transfer without getting out and running over manually.
@@AlwayzFreshdid you build a landing pad so your ship lands in the outpost and not a general spot?
Not sure if this works on Xbox, but I can confirm on PC that as long as your power sources are inside the outpost build area, they will automatically passively power anything that requires power without having to manually assign wires. I have an outpost with gold, fluorine, chlorine & water extractors as well as two of the best basic laser turrets & they are all powered without needing to assign wires. From what I can tell, the only time you need to run power lines from power sources is if you want to add a switch to turn stuff on & off..
Also, yes, you could encounter your provisioners out & about in the Commonwealth in Fallout 4.
Thanks dude great video I will save to watch whilst in game and get myself some outposts. How you liking the game starting to get mixed reviews but mainly positive I’m enjoying it so far so much to do and learn. Thanks again for this video like you say the game doesn’t do a good job of explaining stuff
You’re welcome! I am really loving the game, it has so much to it it’s almost overwhelming. But I love it, and I think it has a lot to offer, warts and all.
In fallout 4 I made all my supply line runners wear red satin dresses. Snappy and I could pick them out when I encountered them. You can also arm them.
Can you go from the extractor to a transfer container and skip the storage container?
Thank you the video, it was extremely helpful. I am having trouble actually landing close enough to my outpost to get the resources from ship. It keeps having me landing about 450m away when i specificallyclick to land on outpost 1. When I'm inside the ship, it doesn't give the option to access the outpost inventory from the distance its placing me. Do you have any ideas what I'm doing wrong or how I can land within my outpost zone??
Easiest way to see what resources are available quickly is just bring up the outpost beacon as tells you what’s available in the top left corner
Something you could add as a quality of life improvement to it is how to expand the amount of storage of the transfer storage so it can have a lot more space to hold all 4 resources
Just wanted to add that you need a landing pad if you aren't near enough your outpost and you want to transfer stuff to your cargohold.
Does it have to be the one with the ship builder or could it be the smaller one
I never had to connect my solar to anything in order to power it, just being placed anywhere in the outpost seems to work for power, I did have to manually connect the storages
So do you even need the storage containers? Can’t you have the extractors go straight to the transfer containers?
Yes, you can totally have the extractor go straight to the transfer container. One of the benefits of having the storage between the transfer container, and the extractor is that the container will act as an overflow for when the transfer container gets full.
but you can only link one outpost to another with a cargo link. if you want like a main base with stuff, you need a cargo link for every base that sends out recources.. i kinda find the cargo link useless cause you can just fast travel to a base if you need something
Love you bro thanks for 5.7 million credits with 167 storages 😅
Thank you friend, i have quick question what is the best quests order, main faction or misc activities which one better to follow order ?
The absolute best video on outpost building I’ve seen. This aspect was so confusing to me and difficult to understand and I feel so much better about it because of this video. Immediate sub. I’m sure it takes quite a bit to make a video like this and just wanted to let you know it’s appreciated. Thank you.
