Hi, nice video of a nice looking bike. I had a Triumph Tiger Cub, Super Sports model, in 1970/1 when I was 16/17 yrs old. Your bike is the trials for sure, with the high rise exhaust, no headlamp, gaitered front fork springs and the external stalk distributor, (the SS had points behind a small metal cover on the crank case, however your finned ally rocker covers are definitely SS model parts not trials. Apart from the SS model the Trials & Tourer had chrome plated pressed metal rocker covers. They used to leak oil but the cast ally ones were oil-tight….until I over-tightened the fixing nut and fractured the ally…..had to buy a new one and it cost a load....never over tightened them again! My crank-case used to leak oil even after I fitted a new gasket and gasket goo. I regularly rode from Nottingham to Cambridge and got used to having to stop on the A1 (a section which later became the A14) at a pub called Trinity Foot (Good Food) …its still there only just though with the new road works, but hasn’t been open for 20yrs. By then my boots would be wet with engine oil, so I would find a stick and wrap a piece of cloth on the end before dipping it in my tank. I then wiped the crank case middle joint clean with the petrol cloth and applied exhaust sealant which quickly dried because the engine was hot. No more leaks for a few hundred miles!! Various other differences between models, pillion seat / battery box and switch with “Emergency Start” feature/Headlamp/etc but they all knocked out big end bushes every few months if ridden hard. I upgraded to an Alpha roller bearing eventual and never a problem with big end again. Happy days….oh and no crash helmet required (glad I survived without brain damage) Nick
Fantastic cub. A friend of mine rode an early 60s model cub with a rear sprocket so big the bike could do maybe 45 mph max. This was back in hs in the late 60s. That bike had incredible low speed grunt and could climb dang near anything. Extremely fond memories of it and another friends sherpa t 250 .
You might find that his bike was converted rom a road bike with road gears, lots of people do it and gear it down via the rear sprocket rather than the expense and trouble of fitting the trials gears. Mine has the trials gears fitted so is pretty slow!
Two queries, one why would any filling come out when it’s designed for 1600cc engines and this is 200cc. Second, there is no filling, it’s a stainless steel tube with a perforated stainless steel tube inside. There is nothing else!🤣
@@garyhuston it doesn't have the volume of the vw exhaust to cool the gasses down before they get to that tail pipe piece. Between the two tubes is a fiberglass filler that just blows out quickly when used on a bike. We used them all the time in the 80s on the smaller bikes. Perhaps they make them differently now but that's how they were when we used them.
@@TheDevonblacksmith when I owned a vw the engine is as close to the tailpipe as this engine is! And no, there is no matting or any other finer inside, it’s just two stainless tubes. Time will tell how long it will last. I’m not intending on using it much so it doesn’t really matter.
@@garyhuston the vw exhaust is a big piece of pipework with a lot of surface area to disparate the heat. But if it does not have the wadding it won't loose it as the old ones we used did. It's nice solution and suits the bike I have two cubs myself. One in similar trim to yours.
Can't really help much as it's a very long time since I re-built it the first time round! Can't remember where the mudguards came from but Sammy Miller is doing them now. As for the tank, it came like that and I assumed it was standard as the dents are way too uniform to have been put in afterwards, the flange around the edge is far too neat to have been pushed in! The lock stops are again as far as I know standard, they are about 2" long.
Hi Gary, You Have a real nice Bike! I'm looking into restoring a Tiger Cub very similar to yours, Do you know a place where they would have some parts for sale for Tiger Cubs? Thank You
I didn't buy any major parts for mine, it was complete, I just reconditioned most of it but these people have most bits. www.triumphtigercubspares.co.uk/ Most of the other companies I used have packed up like Hamrax, Clwyd classics and the like. I bought a lot of bits at the Kempton Park auto jumble.
I posted on your first rebuild page only to think you might not be following that one still - sorry for the dual posts - Your Ride is a joy to look at - I am slowly modifying a 67 Mountain Cub to give her a couple of the lines I like in the Trials Bikes so much - the hardest part for me to locate is the Trials seat like the one on your rebuild - it is the only seat I truly like. I have the original Mountain Cub seat and do not want to cut it up - can you send me in a direction where I might find a used one - I'm 70, retired and milking my pension for what little is left :)
Hi Gary bit of info if possible could you tell me where you got your frt and rear mudguards from ? Are the dents in the tank for clearance because you are not using the original lock stops ? Thanks Rod.
I say it’s 1/38” I just measured the vw tailpipe because I have one here but not the bike! There’s nothing in it though. My pipe was a custom made item in ss
@@garyhuston just researching. But for a tenner I think I’ll just buy one. Most sites seem to say 35 mm OD and must be close to 1 5/16 “ or 33.3mm ID. Thanks for help.
Real shame to alter the gearing, if you want to ride on the road why not get a road cub! Besides I would hate to do more than a mile or so on mine, those high pegs make it very uncomfortable to sit down, knees up around ears! What are you going to do when you get off road with altered gearing?

Great bike and well made film thanks for posting.
Nice touch with the VW-peashooter end pipe

A vw tail pipe. If it is the filler will blow out fairly quickly but it still will be effective but not as good as it is now.

Thanks. Yes it is VW, I thought it might need more silencing but that's all it took..
That's very nice

Looks great but isn't the front brake on the wrong side? Maybe not as I am posting from the States :)
The front brake has always been on the right on every bike i've owned!
That silencer idea is genius. I'm having one. Do you happen to know your pipe diameter ?. It's made my day.
1 ⅜”
@@garyhuston Thanks. I’ll figure it out. Mine is 1 5/16” standard. Great idea that answers loads of issues for me.

It’s such a small difference that you can get it to fit somehow, it sounds great!
Gary. Did the bettle tail pipe fit or did you have to use a reducer/spacer ?. It looks mint. Cheers
Fitted straight on!
Is that a VW Beetle pipe?
Had 2 on my Honda CD175 twin years ago... is it?
Hi, what's the type of silencer please? Thanks a lot!
VW Beetle
Ok thanks a lot for your answer ! Congratulations it's elegant and the sound of the bike is quite loud and nice !
