Sugary drinks before bed, and she wonders why her daughter has tooth decay? Letting those sugars sit on the gums/teeth without wiping or brushing them before putting them down for a nap or bed can cause so many dental issues. I watched this documentary a while back and that Gentleman in this video, Professor Monty Duggal, said that you can't tell the parents that they are the reason their kids are obese and have dental decay because people nowadays refuse to take any sort of responsibility. That wasn't a direct quote but it along the lines of what he said. And he's right. Tallulah's mom got upset over people pointing out her daughter is overweight because that means she is a bad parent and is to blame.

It is actually child neglect. She’s neglecting to keep her child healthy and out of pain by eating healthier and brushing their teeth every day. And she’s not teaching her that if she continues to eat like that she’ll cause long term health issues. Same with the teeth. The little girl has to learn by making the mistakes herself and some day having to see the consequences. Her mom definitely doesn’t care about years from now when it starts to cause heart disease and permanent health complications. Poor kid.

    • @ubermalice9589

@@benny_boop I don't disagree. Nonetheless, where I struggle is identifying that line between involvement and indifference. It's weird, I mean... I've had the same discussion regarding substance abuse and sex work. People have the right to self destruct and what makes it sad is who their destruction effects (kids, friends, family and such). To me what makes this unique is the gut reflect I have to protect those who categorically cannot care for themselves. I'm honestly not sure the correct approach in this regard. Ideally any external involvement would begin and end at giving this kid a fighting chance... so they can fuck up their own life if they want. I don't know... not much keeps me up at night but kids needlessly suffering and people being trafficked makes me feel... feelings. If there was a face I could punch to prevent this my hands would be broken.

@@ubermalice9589 I absolutely get what you're saying and where you're coming from. I prefer freedom and less government interference as well, but when it comes to kids... it's a different matter.
People causing harm to *themselves* is one thing.
People causing harm to *children* who have little to no idea what's going on (or say on the matter, in some cases), is another.
I'm not sure where the line should be drawn, but I'd say as soon as medical professionals (such as the daughter's doctor and dentist) mention something about the kid's health and welfare, it probably should be looked at. Even something as simple as mandatory child nutrition and health courses for the parent(s) would do some good--so long as the parent(s) actually listen and learn something from it, of course.

My dad was really strict on the concept of cleaning your plate. If you sat down at the table, he expected you to clear every morsel of it and if you didn't you'd either sit there until you did or he'd force feed you. Which is not a good idea when its a child being served the same portion as a six foot tall man. My mom, thankfully, fought tooth and nail over years in order for us to eat only what we needed to in order to not be hungry. Theres a surprising amount of ways food control can be used as a form of abuse. I think what this woman is doing counts at least as negligence, if not worse

This is the reason I have such an awful relationship with food as an adult. When I have the kids, I never make them clear their plates. It can go in the fridge for later, or the birdies get to eat it. They know when they’ve had enough

    • @saskia9720

As kids, we were always encouraged to finsish our plates. If we didnt, it meant we were full and didn't get pudding/dessert. Our portion sizes were always age-appropriate, but we grew up frugal, so didn't want to waste any food. My cousin, on the other hand, never had to finish her plate and whenever she came round she always left one or two mouthfuls of food (usually the vegetables) and then two hours later would be hungry and get a slice of toast. She would say she was full, but that was because she'd been snacking a couple hours before dinner too. So I think both methods can have their flaws, but as long as youre giving the right portion sizes, encouraging (not forcing, but incentivising) children to finish their meals is a great way to not waste food, not cause unhealthy snacking, and also show respect towards the person who's spent time making your meal.

Just today I was the substitute for the gym teacher at one of our local elementary schools. The first graders started filing into the gym and I watched as this one boy waddled in behind the rest and I was horrified.
This kid was in FIRST grade, so what, seven or eight years old, and had to have been closing in on 200 pounds. At one point, the music teacher, who was teaching the kids some Xmas songs for a holiday program, had the boys sit on the floor for a minute and this boy was so big he had to squat. He couldn't actually get on the ground. That was when I noticed that his pants were almost completely down below his butt. You could literally see his entire butt. When he stood up, I expected him to pull his pants up. Instead, he pulled his shirt down really hard, trying to cover himself. That was when it hit me, that even his stretchy sweat pants were so tight that the wouldn't go up over his upper thighs.
That shit broke my heart and infuriated me. To see a kid who hasn't even reached a double digit age yet who is so morbidly obese that he can't participate in even SITTING with his friends, can't even be "decent" in public because his clothes are so tight that doing anything other than standing straight up results in his entire butt sticking out. His parents should be more than ashamed of themselves.

My mom was blamed for my weight all my life, but we didn't really eat junk food. I got candy 4 times a year. We were too broke for fast food. We drank kool-ade without sugar. I love fruit and actually like most vegetables. I was always running around outside. Yet, I kept gaining weight that I couldn't lose. I was also always hungry. My immune system was attacking my thyroid gland, and every doctor missed it until I was 42. The right meds, and 120 lbs is gone (though I'm still hella fat for now!). I didn't realize that I was constantly hungry until I got on the right thyroid meds. It was a trip when that constant physical sensation went away. But that's what might be going on with that baby. I think some parents see their kids being overweight as being a positive thing, like they think that its proof they are looking after their kid, making sure they are well fed. Years ago being fat was seen as a status symbol becasue you had the financial ability to be able to indulge. I kinda wonder if thats something behind the mentality of some parents these days with overweight kids, if they equate that to them being well fed, well looked after.
A lot of them assume that giving healthier food means that they can eat more of that because its healthy even though nothing is healthy if you overdo it but yeah this is something that these parents need to nip in the bud asap, the older the kid gets the harder it will be to change it and then theres the risk of health problems too, being overweight puts a strain on your heart and eating a load of crap definitely does damage to your digestive system aside from the risk of diabetes.
This has to be a few years old now right?? I dunno cause I don't really watch tv anymore but this is the kind of thing I used to watch years ago. I wonder if the kids still overweight now or if she is healthier than she seems in the video.

When I see the little girl, I see myself. That's exactly how big I use to be at her age. My mother was around 400lb. She never bought healthy food. Her excuse was that, it was "too expensive". When in reality, she had a junk food addiction and, was too lazy to cook. She wouldn't have an issue with paying $5 for a bag of chips, but paying $5 for a pint of strawberries, would somehow put a hole in her wallet. It never made any sense to me, untill I got older. Then I realized that she was just a processed food addict and just chose not to eat healthy. Normally I don't care about how someone else eats. However, my mother's bad eating habits affected me. I didn't have access to healthy food and, my mom didn't care enough to change. Not even for her own children.

Why hasn't she taken her to the dentist? There's a cheap treatment that they essentially paint the decay black but it prevents it from further decay. My child got baby bottle syndrome from falling asleep with tit in her mouth. First time mom. I had NO clue. Also didn't know that as soon as they get teeth they need to go to the dentist.
Even though it isn't pretty I chose the treatment so she wouldn't have tooth pain and further lose those teeth.
So even the natural milk they recieve can cause decay

  • @bigboi9856
    @bigboi9856 5 місяців тому +2

"the cheapest food" isnt even an excuse. It is not hard to find vegetables and other healthy foods for significantly less money than most other options. People just tend to seek out the most convenient way that requires the least work because most people are intrinsically lazy. THey dont want to face the fact that they are the cause and therefore dont want to own up to it by creating a positive change. They also dont want to admit that their diets are total shit and that they are unhealthy. These are the same people who buy mcdonalds 3+ nights a week and say it's because it's "cheaper." If you went to Walmart and bought a 3 lb package of ground beef for 11.78$, 8 buns for 1.54$, an entire head of lettuce for 1.98$, 2 tomatoes for 54 cents, and a 1lb loaf of cheddar cheese for 3.75$, and an onion for 80 cents, they could make eight "Big Macs" for only 20.39. and STILL have enough left over to make multiple salads.... While 8 big macs costs you 42.80$. But they wouldn't know that because they do not care to even try. Disgusting, abhorrent, unacceptable behavior.

How can a parent let their kid(s) get so overweight and not care? Anyone with a brain knows juice is not at all healthy and is mainly sugar. If you do give your kids juice they to pick healthier juices and water them down so they are not getting as much sugar. If your kid does need a bottle or sippy cup at bed you should only give water. Giving anything else is a huge reason kids have cavities because when they fall asleep they may have small amounts of the juice or whatever in their mouths and that sugar is gonna eat away at their teeth. They are young kids and you can control what they eat. It's also the parents responsibility to teach their kids to eat healthy and good food habits. They need to stop blaming all sorts of health conditions when they are way overfeeding their kids. I'm sorry but it's pure laziness on the parents part. They dont want to deal with the fights and tantrums so they give in and give their kids whatever they want. Don't let these bad habits start to begin with and you wont have as hard of a time with them. Also letting kids watch peppa pig teaches you kids to throw massive fits to get their own ways. I do not let the kids I help take care of watch it at all.

Middle Eastern and Arab influenced cultures of North Africa often consider overweight women to be attractive, they often start overfeeding girls so that, in their narrow minds, become attractive from early age. Also, it is much harder to lose all that extra weight when one becomes extremely fat in early years. So, often it is done on purpose. In Mauritania for example, they even use those geese-feeders that people used to use in France to overfeed geese in order to gain fatty liver and make pate out of them. Nowadays it is considered inhumane to use that thing to overfeed geese. In those ''cultures'', it is still considered OK to use a Goddamn metal pipe-like thing to force feed little girls.
P.S. Don't you dare going all ''ACULLY'' *inhales from asthma inhaler* on me saying not all Middle Eastern cultures do so. Of course not, not every family does so. But in general, it is practiced. I know this from those that I know or knew in person, I lived in probably most multicultural areas of London for a total of 8 years. Then, in my home country, I had to deal with quite a lot of Middle Eastern refugees. I only say shit that I know, you greasy, glasses wearing weak paedophile.

If I had to speculate (well, I don't _have to,_ but I'm going to), I'd say this is learned helplessness.
She won't accept responsibility for the effect her choices have on her daughter because exercising any control over her daughter's food intake would involve, well, taking control of something. Maybe she doesn't want to exert that effort, but maybe she actually doesn't believe she's capable of doing so.

I talked about this very thing (the weight and food discipline) with my mom today when talking about the difference between my siblings and I regarding our snacking habbits. Usually, I don't feel like snacking. Could I eat a whole bag of chips if I wanted to? Yes. Would it happen often? Not at all. In fact, eating too big a snack portion, usually sweet ones, leaves me feeling kinda unwell. I have to put stuff away after a few bites sometimes. Meanwhile, the moment you crinkle a bag, my brother perks up from behind his laptop screen like a pet dog and suddenly wants to eat. I open the fridge and suddenly he wants something too, even though he already ate. He was regular size when he was a kid and our parents could keep an eye on him, and then he started living on his own and just gained more and more weight. He will act all cutesy just to get bigger portions or snacks from me, even when I question him about it and basically go "Dude, really?"
My sister was always a little bigger, but she at least tries to keep her weight and diet stable. She still has that internal voice that says "I _could_ eat all this, but I shouldn't, and I could also save it for tomorrow." That of my brother's is obviously way more silent than that of us both, and I really don't know why. It feels like he's constantly trying to keep up with people and chasing self-gratification, like some of his little self being envious that our dad could eat more (because he was a grown damned adult) than us, and it's kind of upsetting. My sister and I genuinely don't feel comfortable getting snacks or food for ourselves when he's around because we know he'll suddenly want to eat even though he doesn't need to. We love him, and we'd love for him to be a bit more self-aware or at least receptive to criticism, because he won't live as well as he should get to if he keeps this up.
I asked my mom if there's people who just lack the sensation of knowing if they've had enough of something, and she said there are. I already knew that, but I had forgotten because I can't imagine having such a low amount of self-regulation that you need to put locks on your pantry. That sounds miserable.
