Actually the point of the ritual is we must move on and not mourn too much and be happy because our loved ones r going to a better place than this world

Yeah, even though that is your "free will" to say or comment anything about this ritual, but remember, they (Torajan) also have their own "free will" to do their cultural ritual.
After seeing this..one can easily judge how weird human beings are...from eating bats, reptiles to these kind of rituals, humans have crossed all limits of fantasies😒
I don't think there are problems in terms of the ways that they regard death and the relationships between the living and the dead. It's just simply different cultures, that we shouldn't impose our western beliefs and sensibilities upon other cultures and judging what's right to us. However there are two concerns that I see here- one is the cruelty to animals and the other is the preserving of the dead- as the dead decomposes toxins might be released and it must be carefully looked after.
I remember hearing my granny here in TN talking about sitting w the dead for a few days lk yrs ago lk do u but after working in health care death is a smell I can't personally handle😬curious what happens when papaws arm breaks off trying to redress him or granny hair falls off when u brushing it😬
For those of you who complained and demand the Torajans to change their way of slaughtering buffalos, or addressing death,, know this... 1. There are so many cultures in the world, just because theirs are different from yours, it doesn't mean bad, it's just different. 2. Learn to respect differences, even if you disagree/can't accept that. 3. If you still can't, just keep your mouth shut. No demeaning comment necessary. 4. In Indonesia, we have hundreds of different ethnic groups, each with their own culture/languages/traditions. None of us complain about the Torajans and their culture. And vice versa, the Torajans never tell the rest of Indonesia to follow their tradition anyway. They welcome visitors outside their community (as general Indonesian do), and in return they only expect respect.
These people are ignorant, lacks the mentality to detach themselves from advancing to newer forms of cohesion with the living and are attaching themselves with mortality. - the dead knows nothing let the dead bury the dead
The rituals shown here were the same as with the Ifugao rituals performed on the dead wherein they struck the animal with a sharp object, an offering to the ancestral people who were already dead..
I dont know but.. the comments here mostly dont have any open mind. Respect other culture man.. sacrificing animal doesnt mean that you're making it extinct
Sacrificing an animal and then eating it is okay in my opinion, but the problem people have with it is HOW the animals are sacrificed. This method of sacrifice is unnecessarily brutal and cruel. If you don’t see that, you don’t understand what fear and pain is.
Im okay with this practice, and the corpses look better than I would expect. But, my main question is do they do anything to slow decomposition because I just know it’s hot and humid af there.
Yeah, right. Other cultures judge any other that is different from theirs. And no, I can't respect their culture/tradition if they are hurting others in some way. That's messed up.
Poor animals!!!! Please adopt peaceful rituals and discard such barbaric animals sacrifices! So many religions and cultures have left animal sacrificial rites behind and thrive on peaceful rituals where you offer prayers, incense, flowers, fruits, and nuts and remember love ones, and bit farewell.... you too can! You can’t and won’t let go of your dead beloved, but then you kill another living, walking healthy animal in the most horrid and barbaric way! Don’t forget there is such thing as Karma. What goes around, comes around!!! You may get away in this life, but in your next life you will have to pay a hefty price!
I hold the spirit of my grandparents close to my heart. I believe Jesus Christ took them home. their bodies maybe in the ground but their souls live on in heaven.
@@ticketyblue3080 it’s not about belief or religion, even if they’re already dead we can see the corpses look tortured, they need to rest in peace, that’s how it is
that is one mystical belief, the Torajan have another. Most likely, once we're dead we're just inanimate carbon, so what matters is the emotions of those who are left behind
Well, I may find this a little disturbing, but I respect the people and their culture. I can see they are nice people and love their family as everyone else around the world do....God bless
If a buffalo costs ~$40k (US) and a 3 days funeral requires 7 that's $280k (US) for a funeral. How could any average indonesian family afford this? People can barely afford $10k (US) funerals in the US....
I think the translation is wrong. I can believe $4000 tho considering the specific requirements of the buffalo. Here's in Java average buffalo (not that big, and not special features) is about $2000.

And to be honest some people have tried to modernise things and people who disturb our rituals have had bad luck. If you don't know us, you don't know that Toraja is still a very mystical land.
Everyone when there're deaths: we must move on and let the deceased go

I respect this culture. its just mind blowing, TORAJA-INDONESIA. I am Indonesian and Im very proud. but sorry to say, I'd be a terrible person and foul human being if I support their acts. it was just so barbarous what they did to the animal! what a brutal ritual! ❌❌❌👎👎
I'm sure you're vegan..
Yeah, even though that is your "free will" to say or comment anything about this ritual, but remember, they (Torajan) also have their own "free will" to do their cultural ritual.
they just killed the buffalo, nothing more. it's not like they were torturing them. Do you ever eat meat? If so, you can't criticize

Sacrificing an animal and then eating it is okay in my opinion, but the problem people have with it is HOW the animals are sacrificed. This method of sacrifice is unnecessarily brutal and cruel. If you don’t see that, you don’t understand what fear and pain is.

Again please respect their traditions and culture as they respect ours...
I can respect everything but the killing animals part, that’s fucked up and shouldn’t be justified just because it’s a tradition
