2024 IDDRR Preparing communities for recurring disasters

Assam, nestled in the north-eastern part of India, witnesses devasting annual flooding. In 2023, SEEDS' post-flood work in Cachar incorporated community resilience, youth engagement, and disaster mitigation strategies.
Schoolchildren and young people within communities were trained on disaster risk reduction and risk mapping. With children and community members actively participating in preparedness drills, working together and showcasing leadership communities are taking charge of their situations, especially when faced with an emergency.
