I remember picking up a classic book and in the blurb on the back it talked about the major event that happens towards the end of the book. Why?! The reviewer was a modern commentator and it felt like they were trying to claim credit for it. Was a big spoiler. Happy reading to you!
A similar thing happens on the Twilight cover. It says something like "Edward is a vampire." Which yeah everyone really knows by now, but that "reveal" doesn't come until like page 150 in the book. Drove me crazy. Why try to keep his identity a mystery or secret if you reveal the secret on the back of the book!? And if you're going to reveal the secret on the back of the book, I think you can more speedily reveal it in the actual book. Like instead of the protagonist wondering for 150 pages what's up with Edward, just have the first sentence be like, "It took me three weeks to realize my classmate is a vampire. Maybe this is why my dad teases me about not being the brightest bulb in the shop." There. Saved readers from 150 needless pages. Now move on with the story.
