Hi. I have a question about SA career parh. I have been working as a backend engineer for 2 years and 9 months, and recently passed the interview for assosiate SA at AWS. Here are the questions I really wanted to ask.
    1. Is my engineering background too shallow to become a successful SA in the future? I feel like there should be some hurdle compared to others who have decades of experience in SWD.
    2. Is SA experience helpful when I switch it back to SWD again? I'm afraid if I don't enjoy SA as much as SWD, one day I might switch it back to SWD and I really hope it would back up some of my career gap as a SWD.
    3. Would you recommend such a junior SWD to switch it to SA? or have you seen any of junior SWD doing well in SA role? My dream is to make a company one day and I'm not sure which career path would be more helpful for that.

I got answers for my own questions. I just hear from you since you are more experienced than I am.
      1. Yes. 2 yr+ engineering background is too shallow to become a SA. Yes, I can still have SA title in my name card, but I will remain assosiates for endless years and will not be given core projects.
      2. Yes, experience in SA is definately helpful even for SWD since I will be trained to get a broader view when developing a product.
      3. It is hard to tell which job is going to be strictly more useful than the other. However, having broader view of enterprise softwares + soft skills as a SA will be more useful in general cases unless I'm making a product in specific field which requires a deep understanding of certain domain knowledge.

Great video! L6 definitely doesn't make this in Canada by the way, unless you include the stock?

      Yeah, including stock
I think it’s common for the US to pay a bit higher at most companies

Hello, great videos! I was wondering if you could recommend a AWS path that would be the least social? I have a friend who is on the spectrum and is looking to get into IT but does not know where to start, or would CCNA be a better fit for him? The least amount of human interaction the better. Thank you for any comments.

Beautiful question -- Anecdotally, i've seen people on the spectrum succeed in Software Development roles.
Now, those roles do require some social interaction with other developers but rarely do these roles connect directly with 'customers'
So any 'social' element of the job is often limited to a small tight-knit team where you know each other well.
I think learning to code is where i'd suggest your friend focus.

Hi there, I appreciate your fantastic videos; they've been incredibly helpful. I have a question about preparing for the SA role. I've recently obtained certifications (SAA and DVA) and preparing for SCS, and I bring two years of experience in building startup infrastructure. What steps should I take next to ensure I'm well-prepared for the role?

    • @trevspires

I'd just keep doing what you're doing.
Sounds like you're already doing all the right stuff.
So just keep doing that, and keep and eye open for opportunities where you have a change to get closer to the sort if work you're doing

Another question, can you get hired straight at L7 if you have the experience? Is it true that your first 2 years determine if you get to stay or go. There was a Corey Quinn article on how that works as well.
