    Great job adding the DE to water, rather than dry powder. Your way gives you the best coverage on your filter screens.

    Many other videos backwash for just a minute or two. Not 10 - 15 minutes as done here. Also, other videos explain how to determine how much DE to use. Otherwise, this was a better video than many others, thank you.

    This is the first time I've seen someone actually mix the DE with Water first prior to putting in the skimmer. Usually you are instructed to just pour the DE directly in the skimmer.

      I had never known to do it this way until just a few years ago. By mixing it ahead of time, then pouring the mixed solution into the skimmer, it is much less likely for the DE to become airborne and for you to potentially breathe it in.

      I have gone through the trouble of doing both ways and reviewing results by opening filter to see results. Did it twice each time and the results were; when you just pour directly into skimmer i would get DE build up on top of filter and nothing at 1/4 of bottom. When i mixed in water I had complete full coverage and no build up of DE on top of filter. The entire filters had coverage from top to bottom. So now i always mix in water before adding it also helps from keeping the DE from flying around. Best result when mixing in water before adding definitely.

      Yes, the first time I put DE without mix and found they are build up thicker in the upper, then I always mix then pour to the skimmer.

    Y’all really shouldn’t be showing people how to clean a DE filter if you aren’t doing it the right way. I’m just saying.

    Hello, Please DO NOT Backwash your filter for 10-15 min, You WILL blow the grids costing $100's. Only backwash for 1-2min TOPS, Always remember Backwashing is ONLY Temporary, You NEED to fully tear down the filter every 6 months, One in the spring before Summer and one After to protect the Integrity of the Grids.
    I'm Sorry 10-15 Min is TOO LONG

      Not a problem at all! Happy to help! Yes, once you've run the backwash, you then need to replenish the DE (amount dependent upon pool size - refer to D. E. box/container for the appropriate measurement for your pool). This part is briefly captured in the video starting at 1 min 37 sec (1:37) in. Hope this helps!

    Adding Chlorine to the scimmer basket is the worst thing you can do to scrimmer.

    i rather just clean my grids and dump new de in. Need to update your pool pump to a new pentair vs 2 pump, runs a lot more quiet and saves energy cost. plus i live in arizona myself

      @jessicakirsh  7 років тому

      Steve Hastie Great question. We typically like to backwash our DE filter at least once a month. However, a good rule of thumb is to backwash when your system's pressure gauge is 8-10 psi above normal.
