Great video Shawna! I don't do family shirts but gave me a few ideas. I had my 1000th sale today! Yeah! I find it so hard to believe a shop that's only 2 months old has a generic type shirt that's a best seller. I see shops only a few months old having thousands of sales already and I always wonder if maybe that's an experienced seller opening a 2nd shop - or they're not new to selling online. It just seems when people are only 2 months into a shop there is just too much to learn! You are such a great teacher - I bet your 4th grade students were sad to see you go!

Chances are they have multiple shops and are experienced and are spending a lot on advertising
If you sell shirts that are often bought by groups, that’s causes high sales too (bachelorette, group trips, professions, family, etc)
Yea I don't see how you could gain that much traction SO FAST! Probably marketing on social media platforms as well
Definitely spending over $25 a day on ads
Thank you Shawna! This video finally gave me the breakthrough understanding i needed to differentiate my products in the market. I honestly think that at least half of "copycats" are not malicious. They are just beginners who have never created artwork before, have zero graphic design experience, and don't know what to do. Of course im not excusing the true copycats lol. My favorite was without a doubt Naughty and we gnome it. The one comment/advice I have is to try to find graphics that match the fonts a bit more. The gnome was super cute and the letter was awesome as well, but if the gnome had a black border like the letter did, it would look even better and much more cohesive. Or the letter without the black border. Just my two cents. But a good video, thank you!
These were just sample ideas she quickly put together to help people imagine different ways to create new designs.

Thank you for the tip! I did catch that as she was putting it together, the thing that I do have a lot of trouble is with my tags. Do you recommend we use Erank and Everbee together? And possibly also get a membership with Kittle even though I haven’t made sales yet?
I totally screwed up my Halloween designs and I think I did the same for Christmas, however I am not stopping. I am pushing forward and investing in my shop because I want to one day be a stay at home mom 😊
Great video tho I agree about the gnome not being quite right in relation to the fonts. . It seemed a little stiff. Most buyers won’t care or even notice so I don’t know that it’s even worth changing.

Thanks for good educational video. Hoping you can help with couple of questions. My wife and I are starting out embroidery, screen printing, htv side hustle. We are making our own. Is this good or should we be trying Print on demand. I opened an Etsy shop, threads snd press studio. Do you have videos for makers as well?
I've had an Etsy shop selling print on demand for 3 years and have just over 570 sales. I'm grateful for all the content, and covering this topic has been a real help. I have yet to see a video that explains this in such a way that makes understanding the concept easier. I think part of the problem is that we feel comfortable creating a similar design that is easier to comprehend and manage. I often find myself flicking back and forth from the design that inspired me through my research to get ideas as I design and it does end up being quite similar. Letting ourselves go and pushing ourselves away from what is similar can be daunting and uncomfortable. Still, we must try to cut ourselves away from it, believe in ourselves and our skills, and trust our abilities to learn and grow. Thank you, Shawna. I'll take your advice and give it a shot. Should we start thinking about Valentine's Day already now?

Wow 🤩 congratulations 🎉 I have been with my shop for four months and sold only 1 item to a customer (not family related) and two to family members. I feel that I totally missed up on my Halloween designs and Christmas designs as well 😢 I have been having so much trouble finding a Niche. @@almagjim now I have 345 sales and 96 orders so far this month in January so I’m super happy with my progress so far! I don’t really specialize in a particular niche but I have two best Sellers at the moment and both of them are personalized sweatshirts. My advice to you would be if you aren’t yet offering a personalized item maybe try that 😊

This is great content. However, I work in retail, and the cost in retail is so much cheaper for these designs. Keep in mind, the retail stores are watching what is popular and making it cheaper so people Can save money. I have had a shop in Etsy and didn’t do well because the minute you put up a new design, a hundred other shops will do the same and under cut your costs. It’s tough to sell on Etsy.

How many designs should I be placing on etsy per day? I my shop is just two months old and I started getting one sale per day in the last week, but I was hoping Christmas season would be a lot bigger. I just don't want to get my store shut down for looking spammy. What would you suggest.
WOW! I think it is AMAZING you are already getting daily sales! That is awesome! I never worried about putting too much out... I just went for it! If I were to start a new shop tomorrow I would be trying for 5 to 10 a day if I could manage it!!

If I want to do matching couples shirts or family shirts with different texts can I upload all of them in one listing on Etsy? because on Printify I only have an option to design one item at a time. And, I don't see the option to upload the same font in two different colors for light and dark colored shirts.

Hi there! No, they wouldn't be safe unless you had permission from Disney. Keep in mind Creative Fabrica is a platform much like Etsy where creators can post there works. Just like Etsy has people posting things they shouldn't so so can CF. Hope this helps!
