Wait a second, was this video "accidentally" put up before the video it's about because the video it's about is about someone accidentally hitting a button and setting off the display too early?
Someone used to sing opera in our street, in the section where there was (at the time) a potato field on one side, as he walked home with his grocery bags. He said he liked the way his voice resonated in the field.
Also, Tom, it takes about .1pence worth of sunscreen to cover the backs of your ears. Put some sunblock in your tripod bag and never have to worry about this again.
Matt, the term you're looking for with Jonty is Voice (or, in this case, Touch) Activated Mobile Light Stand. Otherwise known as photographer's or videographer's assistant :P
When I was a kid, our small town did a fireworks show near the end of the summer. The guys setting them off were also the fire department. Several years there was a magnificent finale as an emergency call came in and they immediately set off everything before heading out with sirens blaring. It was great
Loved the video, I just have one thing I want to put out there. I thought it with the steel ball video and the fireworks reminded me too. The edits your editor does with multiple angles of the same thing and piecing them all together looks awesome, but I think a single static shot of the entire event from start to finish really helps to make things seem live rather than on camera. After that one shot, it could work well to then just replay the event with the fancy shmancy edits. This is for Tom's channel really but I thought it would be a good place to say this here. Love your stuff!
I have a similar teacher story. One of the history teachers at my school really really screams at you when you do something terrible. The whole school turns silent and you can hear it from the other side of the building. All I remember was him yelling “TWO WEEKS.” To this poor sixth former.
I am a little annoyed you didn't show each shot as it's full take, but did that quick cut editing like a TV show. Also a missed opportunity to for some sick slow mo footage, or possible Slo Mo guys collab. And yes I know, I am critiquing free content of what is a celebration video. Either way congratz on a million subs Tom.
NOO! AYE DONT LIKE FAREWORKS, AYE DOONT LIKE FUN, AND AYE DOONT LIKE YOUUU! 🤣 Made me laugh so much! (P.S the spelling mistakes were intentional 🤣!) 11:26
I saw a documentary on filming footage for nuclear bomb tests in the 40's and 50's. They had to adjust the film and the exposure millisecond by millisecond as the film ran through the camera, but they had to do it ahead of time (it happened too quickly to do it by eye). It was really a major deal back then.
Huh. That may explain the big night-time firework-y bangs we hear in Cambridge occasionally. They often seem too short for displays and there are no festivals on that we know about. Also: He doesn't sing, he doesn't run unless he really, really needs to and he has somewhat uncontrollable hair. Could Matt Grey in fact be the lovechild of James May and a Time Machine?
You mean to tell me you guys don't have massive fireworks displays in the UK on the fourth of July to celebrate America's winning their independence from... Oooohhhh. Never mind. ;-)
We haven't even been allowed bonfires at most public firework events for the last decade or so, so the guy on top has become a superfluous and often abandoned tradition.
Re: the fireworks in the daytime thing - 4th July in Seattle, sunset is about 9pm, not dark until 10pm. Many many crotchety kids at fireworks displays. As for Alaska...
So, just to be clear, Titanium Fireworks set up that whole thing for you, free of charge? I'd imagine that just the fireworks involved would be pretty expensive, not to mention the labor?
I thought that just meant that Tom didn't receive any money from Titanium for making the video, but it is still unclear to me whether or not he paid for the fireworks. Doesn't really matter too much, but I'd love to know how much money they actually blew on this and what motivated Titanium to actually do this.
Reminds me of school, where the RE teacher uttered a dirty sentence one day. Could be the acetylene bomb let off right outside his classroom, shattering almost all the windows, but he did roar out " you dirty little scoundrels" amongst the sound of falling glass. His name, Mr I Glass.
What got me, and you didn't even mention, is you pressed the button on zero!! I guess it's just a matter of timing. But when it hit zero, AND you punched it, I flinched. No sound no explosion, but I was so primed for it I jumped as if it happened. 😁😁Good job.
Best "display" if you can call it that, that i've seen was after England won the RWC in 2003. "but wasn't that game in australia, and wasn't that very early in the morning? yep... it was". Basically a bunch of drunk guys trying to set up fireworks in broad daylight. two bangers they put in the hollow handle of a wheelbarrow.. It went out at a terrifying angle out the tube into some trees. A large firework they stuck the stick too deep in the dirt and it didn't have enough power to release itself, so it just exploded while still grounded.. It's quite a wonder no one was seriously hurt.
my brother did the lights on the london eye for new year's last year and the year before. He sort of did them this one just gone too, but his program was the backup, so its good we didnt see his work
Brings back the imagination of a firework display I wanted to see that's maybe similar to what you did. Essentially you have about 100 exact duplicate rockets spread 15m apart on let's say the park behind you and have them set off simultaneously whilst standing in the middle park. Would it evenly blanket the sky on perfect day? Would using flares instead make it look like the sun is up?
Hey Matt and Tom! When you're talking about specifically stuff that doesn't "come across" or translate because they have such a "feeling" in person and not so much in camera, can you guys maybe do a binaural/3D sound recording for those instances? Or is that too much of a hassle or expensive?
I'm sure most people want to know the price tag on ten minutes of fireworks in ten seconds. Also, what incredible words did you use to convince them to go through with it?
It would have been interesting to see the same display, but played as it should have been over 10 minutes, to see what it should have looked like. ... If you don't mind doing it all again that is?! ;)
We delayed this week's video 'til Monday, so it'd appear at the same time as my own video! -- Tom
It appeared before the main video though. :P
Someone needs to change their name... ;-)
So ... did Tom get sunburn on his ears?
Tom why are you not wearing Red? :( I'm getting confused about who is who! ;)
its under the hoody, ik it was probs sarcasm but oh well
Friends who become filming equipment are the best kind of friends
Honestly I love being that kind of friend 😊
Wow I love your profile picture! I was so surprised to see a Paradise Fears pic
PurplePalisade thanks! I’m still repping PF just hoping for a new album eventually 🖤
a friend with benefts
I want to see the edit where Tom smashing the button gives mystery biscuits.
Serval Spots YES.
Pretty please!
Thank you, Jonty. We appreciate your willingness to be an impromptu lighting rig.
Wait a second, was this video "accidentally" put up before the video it's about because the video it's about is about someone accidentally hitting a button and setting off the display too early?
yes....yes it was
What do you mean it was a fake button? It sends Mystery Biscuits!
That was probably the actual Biscuits button, wasn't it?

last time i was this early your idea of goofing around involved a 99p drumkit
dannypeck666 wow.. that was a long time ago!
You don't do fireworks for the 4th of July in Britain? Something like "Good Riddance" Day?
Our fireworks day is Bonfire night/Guy Fawkes day.
What it’s actually celebrating??
Depends on who you ask.
The real question is, Did Toms' ears get sunburned?
SYELDARB during the fireworks? Or.... Oh... That
That's what I want to know.
Also, Tom, it takes about .1pence worth of sunscreen to cover the backs of your ears. Put some sunblock in your tripod bag and never have to worry about this again.
Aloe Vera!
Aloe Vera, the lesser well known second verse of Ave Maria.

I want to know what you wrote in the email to the fireworks company
"Hi there! Can you set off a load of fireworks in an error for me? Thanks! -Tom"
Did we just hear Matt sing... opera?
Only when necessary for the joke.
We heard him sing alright (!!) but it's too flattering to actually call it opera, I would think!
*yes*
*NO! I DON'T LIKE FIREWORKS, I DON'T LIKE FUN, AND I DON'T LIKE THE WIRRAL!*
Why not
@@rami.madeit It's the Wirral. There was an incident in the Wirral, and now it's ruined.
Is this what caused Wales's earthquake last week?
Snaily even though it was in Cambridge it still reached Wales.
😂
Shut up with your logic.
I’ve just realised I’m qualified to try this at home......

Really should have had a camera specifically focused on Matt. His reaction totally made the original video.
Your teacher line sounds like the teacher from a few Twisted Sister videos...
12:08 wys? He cute as hell

report that bastard!

Either way congratz on a million subs Tom.
How much did it cost?
mikeselectricstuff ditto
.
a lot?
All the money, probably.
probably around 3000 dollars or so
*seismograph goes off*
"Someone's making videos again."
Fun fact: The muzzleblast that passes the shell blows out the plastic sheet before the shell even starts moving.
I'm surprised Colin wasn't involved with this.
matt recently did pyrotechnics on his own channel(i really liked it!)
p.s. titanium fireworks, same here as there
Only an Englishman would worry about getting sunburned in 10 degree weather :D
NOO! AYE DONT LIKE FAREWORKS, AYE DOONT LIKE FUN, AND AYE DOONT LIKE YOUUU! 🤣 Made me laugh so much! (P.S the spelling mistakes were intentional 🤣!) 11:26

does everyone do the 'allo vera joke when it is mentioned? (i know i do)
Thanks for the end screen link to Matt's extra footage video. Great stuff
I had a teacher at school who had a similar reputation. I can't remember anything specific but he was loud and 'ee were fru' Barnsleh.
I think it came a cross to the UA-cam audience as well as it could in a recording vs being there in person
Come for the explosions, stay for the bad jokes

You should have done a guest thing for Destin's Sound Traveler. Using the binaural audio thing to get the loud sound across
Was gonna sleep but the notification popped up... I guess sleep can wait
im watching this before seeing the fireworks and the anticipation is tantalising . I'm literally precuming right now
It's already up on Tom's channel
That's mildly disturbing haha
yeah but im not watching it until ive seen this
Just spotted your 1 million subs today, Tom. That is amazing!!! Congrats!!!
I like how Jonty is having a myoclonic seizure at the sheer power of the display. I probably would be too.
Re: the fireworks in the daytime thing - 4th July in Seattle, sunset is about 9pm, not dark until 10pm. Many many crotchety kids at fireworks displays. As for Alaska...

Vally123 ‘Thanks to (But not sponsored by)’ - Maybe just discount, they paid still

Doesn't really matter too much, but I'd love to know how much money they actually blew on this and what motivated Titanium to actually do this.
I would guess that they got a discount display of whatever they had sitting on the shelf near end of life or surplus.
Setting up a firework display free of charge probably would not make for a very good firework display.
Guys....that video was AWESOME!!!!!
Allo vera. Thats a good one. 😁😂🤣

I had a "ignorant American" moment, it took me a moment to realize that fireworks aren't common during summer worldwide.
Do a follow up about their indoor fireworks!
Bang, bang, done. -- Matt
Park bench in the snow (again)?
We heard Matt sing!
Did you get sunburned?
A proper WAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUHHH
You forgot to put the link in the description
I'm on another Matt and Tom bender then.
that smudge or glare on the camera is interesting
allo vera =) best joke in a long time.
I've had teachers who've said all these things in turn to me.
Ok. Maybe not about fireworks. But "fun" and "you," yeah, they've said all that.
Park Bench: Sound Effects Special.
Oh, good, I wasn't the only one singing "The Hallelujah Trail Theme."
excellent video.
I can confirm, living next to a opera singer can be quite exhausting.
This all makes me think of the fireworks involved in the recent Beirut explosion
Hey Matt and Tom! When you're talking about specifically stuff that doesn't "come across" or translate because they have such a "feeling" in person and not so much in camera, can you guys maybe do a binaural/3D sound recording for those instances? Or is that too much of a hassle or expensive?
I'd have come to see it if it was nearby and I knew It was on.
I'm sure most people want to know the price tag on ten minutes of fireworks in ten seconds. Also, what incredible words did you use to convince them to go through with it?
The key is to use spatial audio recording!
my dad used to be a pyrotechnician hes got a story or two about setting off a lot of fireworks by accident and barges being unfit to support fireworks
You guys have a smudge on the camera on Tom's jacket. Great work as always though.
I would like to hear more about that human error theory and fool proofing.
I feel like this was released too early? Is the fireworks video even up yet?
It came up probably a second after this video did in my feed
Must have been a timing "error"... ;)
This video should be a reminder that you all need to be subbed to all three channels. Blink, and you might miss something.
Why didn't you use the slow-mo camera on either yourselves or the fireworks?
MATT! Are you going to watch the Atlas V launch tomorrow??
All these comments make me happy for once that I don't have notifications enabled 😊
When are they going to get to the fiiiiireworks factory?! --Milhouse
Hmm, no link to Tom's video, or maybe I'm just early
So it did, thanks. I thought it weird that I'd missed one!
Johnty episode?
It would have been interesting to see the same display, but played as it should have been over 10 minutes, to see what it should have looked like.
... If you don't mind doing it all again that is?! ;)
Why did you upload this video BEFORE the fireworks video?
Wooot
So glad this wasn't another solar light video.
Matt's hoodie tassels annoy me.
Why did you upload this before the firework video?
It didn’t come across on camera. I was super disappointed.
Was the field near Kimbolton by any chance?
I was gonna comment about the back-light but yeah
I thought you'd have gotten Colin Furze's "guys" :)
What fireworks video? Did I miss something...
It's on Tom's channel
Loge wasn't shown when I commented this.
These got posted simultaneously
where in Cambridgeshire did you do it?
How was colinfurze not involved in the video?
how much did it cost? are saying its free or cheap
Where is the big timelapse?
COME BACK!!!!
