Probably because you were using the bitless bridle incorrectly. You should never use constant pressure like this in a bitless bridle. The way I was taught was to use a jello box worth of pressure (4oz). If the horse starts to speed up when you let up pressure then you do tug tug tug until they slow to the speed you want. Then very light touch when they are going the correct speed.
Well done Tara for realizing your error, acting on it, and openly admitting it. ❤. Bella really is a challenge in so many ways. Maybe with the correct bridle, she would have had a different reaction? We live and learn.
I think you're right in your comment, Tara has put herself out there, realises what's happened and is committed to turning it around. I'm of the same era as Tara and I admire riders who do go bitless, I believe it takes a real commitment to get to riding bitless. I always go by, (in most cases) it's not the bit that hurts the horse it's the humans hands that do. The Andulasian is such a unique breed too. Must be very testing at times to own and ride one 😁
I watched this and heard Frank Sinatra's *that's life* song... 🎼 that's life (that's life) that's what all people say, ♪You're riding high in April, shot down & Bit less in May!♫ 😅😅😅tfs Tara, you girls are the best!👍❤
I am sorry to see her challenge you after what should have been a fun halter ride. She got better though her halts are perfect. She is so square and not poking her nose out. There is hope…😊
You will never know unless you try 😁 Bella saw yesterday’s lesson as a way to take advantage of the situation - some horses 🐎 may never be able to go bit less. Bella was indeed singing 🎵 Frank Sinatra’s My Way during this lesson 🤣
You have done so much progress with Bella! Sometimes rides don't go according to plan but you have come such a long way. If you don't know him Warwick Schiller has a lot of videos with impatient and nervous horses, maybe some of the stuff he does could help Bella, I personally love his method.
Perhaps when she is a much older, doing well in all moves as a general rule. She may understand better then, when she has proven to herself and that you know she is able to, that she can do all these things that she will learn in the years to come. Bella will always be impatient, however she will be used to handling all of the teaching and learning aids through years of practice in schooling. Bella is very very smart, and she has a great deal of drive, so that bit less bridle may perhaps still be an schooling tool albeit at a much later time.
Good on you for admitting it Tara!! She was as you say doing so beautifully with her head down and then suddenly something new and strange which has confused her and I do think she is reverting to what she knew before the learning curve. I'm sure the learning is still there but she needs lots of relaxed time now to get back to normal and then uncover it again. Personally I can understand her reaction and I think she is one very wonderful and special girl! ❤❤❤I know she's in great and loving hands ❤❤❤
I can't believe Bella is reacting like that because you tried bitless one time, but I say that from being a non-rider! I've never seen a horse stomp like that; it made me wonder if she might be uncomfortable - she is certainly in some kind of tizzy!
Don’t be to hard on yourself. There was no way to know what Bella’s reaction to bitless would be until you tried it. I bet after a few sessions you’ll have her doing “head down” again.
I feel more than a bit guilty chuckling but she certainly is being at the height of princessness! 😂😳😬 Very impressive stomps, Missy Mare! As the lyric goes, you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone-and don’t we ALL wish we could go bitless! Well, no more electives-it’s back to 101 now, Bellakins! 🙄😬😂💗
Liebe Tara.
I was afraid of this. Oh well, you tried! Bitless isn't the only way to ride. As I said before, not all horses can do bitless. Bella seems to be one that does not, given that has sass and is very forward-going. Personally I would prefer a good handle on her! I suppose we can liken it to having a child switch their writing hands? You gave it a good try though. I know you will do what is best for Bella! ❤️❤️🐎🐎🥰🥰 (That stomp of hers.....!!).
I haven't watched all your schooling videos, but could she be in her cycle? My mares when they are in cycle they get fussy and stomp when we are working. I have to use something to help them with the pain. I use a product called Mare Magic which is a blend of herbs. I will go back through some your schooling videos and see if she is consistently like this.
Good evening Tara,,,its a pity you have unsettled Bella when she was starting to lower her head so nicely,,,its not just sass ,,she's letting you know she really doesn't like this,,,its really upsetting her,,,its a shame,,,but at least you tried but it didn't work out,,,,❤
She'll get it again. When you say head down, of she doesn't do it just put your two fingers over between her ears and let her bump your fingers. She will automatically put her head down. She has to be a little sassy every once in a while.😊 It keeps her mom busy thinking ahead of her. 🐴🥕🥕🍎🍎
Bella was Princess Bella today! 😂 Sorry Tara, but I had to laugh at the Stomps! She had to express herself! Tomorrow will be better, I’m sure no harm was done! She probably just wants to go home and see Apollo! 🐴⭐️⭐️❤️❤️
Bella don't be naughty. It's not that big of a deal. No need for toddler tantrums at school! What would Apollo say if he saw you acting like that?! 😊🏇🏫 😡😤
Why is it that Bella is so PRETTY even when she is clearly being so POUTY or PUSHY? I do love her spirit and believe in her future as a wonderful riding companion. Three words for you, Bella: "Mum IS the Boss!"
🐴🐴💙...That's Bella for ya! 💃💞 Seems like She doesn't like change (Your NOT alone Bella!) So again, She reverts back to Her defiant ways! Stomping Her foot in protest "NO Schooling! Let's go on a Hack" twisting, turning, Side passing, and as always Tara, your handling Her brilliantly!♥️ just a small Hiccup, Bella will get past this...Very nice Halt there!😍 Loved this! Thank you ever so much for sharing and All take care!🙏🥰🤗🤗🐶💗...🐴🐴💙

Bella needs a vacation from school! 😂 Mum I'm confused, your a little much for me sometimes, I'm a smart beautiful horse, when's graduation! 😅🎉
Bella is on a a two month vacation

What’s life without mistakes and challenges…right!🤔 It’s how we learn, even Bella, for sure. 💛Stomps, turns, and all 🦒🫣😉.
😊
Bella stood so well at the end x congratulations to you both 🎉
🐴👏
Oh she is a character! One step forward, two steps back with Bella. 😂 Hopefully she'll get back into her routine at school. 🥕👏🐎🤩👍💖💖💖💖

Never boring . Yes I chuckled too .cant wait for those beautiful rides and scenery again, as do you and Bella I’m certain.

No mum I’m not playing today. You messed my brain yesterday doing that bitless session. So no I’m not playing so there 🐴🐴🐴
😂
🦄Bella must be thinking I am doing it my way, mum🦄. Bella will learn that you are in charge Tara, well done in what you are doing.💖💖💖
😊

Bella wants to be herd leader, it's also been so with Apollo also.
Such a good horse Bella is. 🤠💕🐴

It doesn’t seem like Bella liked arena work. The videos of you riding her out, she seemed to be much happier.
You are right. Bella does need to do some school work, but we both prefer pleasure rides and non competitive Endurance.
Oh, Bella. I’m so sorry, Tara, but I found myself laughing at her impudence. She’s a challenge but also a delight. 🐴💕👍
👍
Live and learn. You're an excellent horsewoman.

Might have to go from little and often to more and pressure to get her fully back to sophmore mare...
Yes but many lovely riding trails in UK and even Spain. Afterall Bella is a Spanish gal.
ah bella you are such a character. Bella wants an outside adventure not this dressage stuff.
👍
Unfortunately Isle of Wight seems to be short on good outside trails.
Oh Bella, your really not in the mood for school today! 😮
😊
What a handful she can be!! So sassy! 😂
👍
😂😂little tike very funny she’s so clever Tara

It didn't work out because she wasn't using the bitless bridle correctly.
She's confused now. She loves to please you but now she needs to go with no mixed messages. Keep going with tried and true. 😢

Her stomps and stamps are so cute lol 😂❤
She's always going to test her boundaries. She's so smart.
👍
I LOVE HER SPUNK!
Bella isn’t a pushover.
She is smart and quick!
👍
Might she need a mental break?
She is currently have two months off over the winter

Not many people will admit their mistakes, usually blaming the horse etc., so huge kudos to you - you sure have sticking power!!. Bravo👏🐴🐎👍. N
