  • We converted our enclosed trailer to a camper by installing a rear hinged wall. We can open it and still haul stiff in it, But still use it as a camper. It turned out pretty awesome!!

    I’d mount a wheel in the corner on the wall by the door. If it doesn’t get in the way of anything you want in there . It’ll really help with opening and closing and it’ll keep that door up the way you want. Great build !

    We did this exact same thing in our toy hauler. we had problems with wall scrub. I ended up using a wheel from a razor scooter and cut a notch in bottom corner of wall and put the wheel in it...... rolls beautiful now.

    That's a great looking conversion. Here's a thought on minimizing the door sag. Run cables diagonally between the wall studs with turnbuckles to keep them tight. This is done on some gates to help with sagging.

    Use earth magnets to hold door against wall. Use a small wheel or roller in bottom middle near to storm door to elimate drag. May have to cut small portion out of bottom if you use a roller. GREAT IDEA. I, too, have used a John boat to cut lumber. And your wife is A-Typical --- hands on the hip inspecting. I had to laugh at both. Been there. I'm probably close to you dad's age. • @amythinks
    @amythinks 3 роки тому +2

    I really enjoyed the video. But I'm not entirely sure the purpose of the wall. Do you want to sleep with the cargo door open? Why not just close the cargo door and sleep? Is it because you do not want to put a hole in the trailer for the air conditioner? Either way, it's pretty cool, especially with the door. Just curious about why the wall is necessary. It would be pretty neat if you could create some sort of cylindrical containment....maybe with a piece of pvc...attach it underneath the point on the wall where it swings and put some little ball bearings in there to make it glide.

    • @MichaelDavisOutdoorAdventures
      @MichaelDavisOutdoorAdventures  3 роки тому

      I wanted to be able to haul my side by side or Kayaks and then sleep inside the cargo area like a camper. The cargo do is shut and secured from the outside, so I built the wall and added a door to use. If that makes sense

    Sorry brother but I have to say I’ve had this idea as well. Probably only because I lay in bed more hours than most people due to health reasons and dream up this kind of stuff. I like planning and figuring out ways to do stuff. When I can I get out and adventure around southern Indiana here. I pull my enclosed trailer but I’m always close by again because of health and being disabled but I just have to be out in nature, I can’t be in the house unless I’m forced too. Can’t wait to check out your videos and I subbed your channel. I sub many channels. This is my way of seeing places and going on adventures that I’ll never get to do. So thank you in advance for sharing videos of amazing places with someone like me.

    All the comments about using the ramp door at night......... I am moderately claustrophobic and just having the thought that I am locked in would make me crazy. And our grown nephews would not hesitate to lock those doors, just because they thought it was funny. I like the idea of having a back wall both for the extra light and an imagined escape route (lol), but still able to load bikes and-or kayaks and only take 1 vehicle. Quick question.... do you feel like the wall is secure enough to hold the weight of a window type AC unit if it was closer to the hinge. I would rather not go cutting into the walls of our cargo trailer to add our existing window AC that is sitting in the garage floor collecting dust. Also, I thought that adding a lightweight door sweep to the bottom of the wall or to the floor where the wall stands when in place might help with critters at night. Wish I had invented pool noodles, they are the foamy version of duct tape, millions of uses. I appreciated your video, very informative! I have had the hubs watch it several times so he understands what we are going to do. And by we, I mean he....

    A side-by-side looks like an ATV, right? Did you build this whole wall just to vent the air conditioner, when you could have simply vented the air conditioner out the side of the trailer? I think the reason you couldn't find anyone else had ever done this is, most people simply shut the ramp door when it's time to sleep.
