The beginning of this Trio is one of the most beautiful pages in all Fauré. First time to hear it with clarinet rather than violin. So beautiful.

Great the way the pianist smiles at one point in the slow movement - pure enjoyment on his face

I wondered if using a clarinet instead of a violin would lead the interprets to play in a lighter and faster way than usual. I was totally wrong. This rendering is slower and more profound than usual. IT pays an outstanding tribute to Fauré's genius and deepness. The clarinet tone is perfectly suited here. Note that is is the before last meditation of the old Fauré, and the last one actually played during his life.

    Gorgeous, sensitive playing from everyone.
The harmony of late Fauré is such a stretch to make sense of, and Andrius swims through it with such insouciance.
It makes me proud to be a Cleveland-trained musician to hear such beauty and elegance coming from the CWRU campus.

It doesn't work for me. Violin and cello makes the voices ambiguously the same instrument, clarinet is always a different voice.

Can you say what you think is missing from this performance? Of course no performance succeeds in every way. What are your reservations about this performance specifically?

There is not only one interpretation possible...And this one for me is very beautyful...What does it mean "a french interpretation" ?

@thierryastolfi889 Good question and one no American can answer or understand! USA is still an isolated island of arrogance and unmusicality. I speak as a Paineitte and life-long musician. My country is the world.

Yes, I do, having lived, studied and performed in France with the best. The phrasing is all confused and unclear but clearly misunderstood. Of course, the microphone and recording doesn't help. A study of the composer wouldn't hurt, either, not to mention the French langue! Cleveland? Cleveland! My dearest friend was Marc Lifschey who told Szell off and quit to move to my hometown and inspire me as a life-long colleague and dear friend. Music is too big for pedestrian ignorance and USA 🇺🇸 arrogance. But the music exists and lasts! Why did he ditch the clarinet? Mush to learn!

@Santalucesguy Yep, me! Check out my other comment. My country is the world. I'm a professional musician and have lived/worked all over the shop including France from tip to toe! I have to agree with you. USA 🇺🇸 .Build that wall. 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
