This is a beautiful song. To me, this is about someone’s inability to accept reality.

Person of interest - "B"
“A” reminisces the childhood memories of a friendship with “B”, when there was only the two of them and they loved each other as young friends do. But eventually the love of “A” went further than just friendship and turned into the type of love that “B” did not have for “A”. This put undue pressure on the relationship, and likely drove “B” away. For “B”, it was about the person, about the fun times they had, those memories playing together that was meaningful. On the other hand, “A” developed feelings for “B” that “B” did not have towards “A”, and would never have. This is why “A” says, “Now I see, you and me could never be”. This is only a partial acceptance of reality because "A" takes it back in the second line.
In “A”s mind, they were both of the same mind and heart, both shared the same interests, perspectives, and feelings towards each other ("from the same branch and leaves"). In “B”s mind, they shared a moment in time, but that time was over and after that there would only be fond memories of that time and has since moved on. “A” desperately clings to the notion that “B” shares the same feelings and tries to persuade “B” into acknowledging it as such by saying, “Don’t you see, this is where you want to be”.
Whenever YOU have to tell someone what THEY want, instead of listening to them tell YOU what THEY want, you come from a place of obsession, and not love. Obsessed people confuse their feelings for the way others feel towards them and therefore have a hard time handling the rejection of the person who is the object of their desire. This is because obsessed people ultimately only care for what they want, and not what the other person wants. True love accepts the other person for who they are and respects what that other person wants, even though it might mean losing them forever. Because love means you want the best for the other person, and you put their desires before your own, no matter the cost.

1: The tone is calming as it is suspenseful. It tells a story not only in the lyrics but also by its tone. 😌✨ It gives you that storytelling but battling/adventurous vibe! That’s something I look for in many songs!
2: The lyrics...They’re so meaningful and have a heartfelt meaning behind em. Like you’re afraid to let go of someone but the act of letting go does it for you. “Travel back in time.” We’ve all been there. 😔✌️Just have that feeling to rewind to the past and try and relive your memories. THE LYRICS ARE SO BEAUTIFUL!!! 😭🤍💙✨

Lyrics, they're packed with meaning. Lots of meaning. There's really not that many lyrics to it, but the fact it has so much meaning makes it a whole lot better.

Mk, here's what I think of when I hear this song:
The "Willow tree" in this song is life. The "You and me" part is him and his friend, or the "leaves". When it says "Sadly, the wind blows you away from me" it's either the fact that his friend passed away or his friend left him.
I think "If only we could travel back in time" means he wants to see them again. (this goes with either scenario)
Unfortunately, this is all I've tried to uncode. Might do more later, I dunno. Hope this makes sense!

And as she came through the muddy earth, she saw it. The willow tree.
"I bet you a cookie I can climb to the top faster than you!" Shouted fern who was already racing towards nick. Nick was the willow tree in ferns ' backyard.
"Oh yeah?" Gracey shouted back.
Fern had started her accent up the tree when Fern's mother yelled to the girls, "kids, lunch!"
"Coming!" They shouted back.
The kids barreled through the door and into the house like tumbleweeds.
"What am I going to do with you two?" Fern's mother sighed sarcastically. "Here, I made you peanut butter and jelly."
The girls wolfed down the food before dashing back outside to continue there race up Nick.
"Those were the good days." Grace said.
"Oh yeah!" Said Fern. "I'm still a better climber than you!"
"Tsk always where." Grace admitted.
"Girls quiet." Snapped their teacher, Mr.Burke.
"Not a girl." Muttered Fern, who recently came out as nonbinary.
When school ended they would usually go to the park together but couldn't tonight as they had to study for a test.
Grace sat on the bus, her laptop open, earbuds in, listening to music.
She worried about Fern. Fern was always "sorry" they felt bad about everything and took the fall from everything.
Grace had also changed a lot since they were kids. Instead of keeping her hair long like she always intended, she had now cut it short and dyed purple.
It wasn't just Grace's hair that changed, her personality had too. Instead of being a chaotic, whitty, jerk, she was now a calm, smart, and analytical girl.
Suddenly she looked up. Her stop was next.
When she got home she began studying and doing homework till her phone went off. It was a text from Fern.
(Hey can I trust you?) Fern asked.
(Yeah ofc) Grace texted back.
(I've been feeling kinda bad latley in terms of wanting to harm myself. Ik I promised u I wouldn't do anything but I feel so horrible.) Fern responded.
Grace stared down at the text she read. She had been right, Fern wasn't okay.
(How can I help?) Grace texted back.
(Not much u can do) said Fern.
"Why are they being so vague?" Grace muttered.
(If u need my help I'm here) Grace responded
(Thx gtg ttyl) Fern texted.
(Ttyl)
Grace sighed. This had to run deeper than Fern was letting off. Grace decided to tell the guidance counselor at school what she read.
The next day Fern did not come to school.
(Why did u tell him?)
"Huh?" Grace said, confused about the text her friend had sent.
(What r u talking about?) Grace typed.
(Why did u tell the guidance counselor I was hurting) Fern asked.
(R u insane?) Grace typed. (I was worried and didn't want you to hurt yourself.)
(Just great cause now I'm in trouble because of you I don't want to deal with it rn see you tomorrow.) Replied Fern.
Fern and Grace did not utter a word to each other at school that day…
Grace was doing school work when her phone went off.
"Eh it can wait." Grace huffed, this was due tomorrow and she was almost done. Whoever it was could wait.
When Grace checked her phone around ten minutes later after she had finished her work, she had an unread text from Fern.
(I'm sorry I just cant do this I've been through too much. I know its selfish and I've put it off for so long but I've been going through hell and I cant keep going. Visit Nick for me. I love you.)
It took Grace a moment to process the text she had just read.
"No! I'm coming Fern!" Grace shouted, thankful her parents wouldn't be home for a while.
Luckily Fern didn't live far away. And so Grace grabbed her bike, and peddled as fast as she could to Nick.
Eventually she made it to the house. The ground was wet with the recent rain.
As she ran through the muddy earth, she saw it. The willow tree.
As she looked up she saw her best friend, hanging from the tree they used to play in.
"Oh god no!" Grace cried.
Grace picked up her phone and called the police.
Grace spent the next few days at home. According to her other friends the school had held a ceremony to remember Fern. Apparently even a small memorial was set up.
Grace had been devastated since Fern died. Never eating, rarely drinking, and getting no sleep.
"Mom?" Grace called.
"Yes dear?" Her mom replied.
"Can I go visit Nick?" Grace asked.
"Don't be gone long please." Her mom said.
"I wont!" She called back.
Grace brought a notebook with her. She would usually draw when she visited Nick so this wasn't abnormal.
When Grace made it to the house, she sat as she usually did. But instead of drawing, she wrote. She wrote a letter saying all the things she could never say to her loved ones.
Grace looked at her bike to see the cables that held her basket on the back down. Grace removed the cables and looked at Nick.
