I loved it. In dating it's more exciting to be with someone more adventurous but in marriage you need someone who is more reliable and stable. Great work. Keep em coming!!!
With divorces becoming the norm, it's better for the men to seek for woman as a partner than a wife. With a wife, you'll need to pay for alimony and child support, etc.
I'm socially progressive and fiscally conservative. I'm a Chinese man married a Spanish lady. Socially progressive - Free love. Gay rights. Atheism. Equal rights for all. Fiscally conservative - Free markets. Immigration laws. Hate handouts.
it's a poetic justice that asian men like white conservatives women , but white conservative women are low key racist and only date white, and instead of going like hey, i can just look at any other color of conservative woman where i'm appreciated, the advice is basicaly to lower your standards, still pick a white woman, but a progressive one,but then take the time and effort to turn her into a conservative one...like...wow! to me it just shows that it was never about being conservative or not in the first place...
I think most young american men will say/want a more traditional relationship with a woman. They might not know how to voice it or not realize that's what it is. Then I think the culture has propagandized men into thinking they shouldnt and should have modern/progressive woman. Also probably depends on where you grew up in the country. Im in the SF bay area and most probably will deal with progressives. I myself would rather have a more conservative and traditional woman now as im 32. If you asked me 5 years ago id probably have been fine with a progressive woman. You two seem to have a great balance. Glad i stumbled upon you guys
I am conservative, I can’t stand these progressive madness. Period I don’t mind women working and be career oriented but don’t make the whole women empowerment to the extreme
also you're a man or a woman?it can help us understand from what point of view you are coming from better, for exemple me i comment as a black African man living in SE Asia, dating a black african woman.
Christian Asian male living in Asia [Singapore] I prefer someone with a good balance - someone who respects herself [values and body] - someone who respects her partner [current and future]
I struggled with my femininity as a teenager, but came to faith in Christ and healed from a lot of confusion. Now I really believe in the complimentary differences between men and women. My crushes have tended to be Asian men. Ultimately having shared faith in Christ is what is most important to me. I know it's not as common nowadays, but there are still Western women that want love, marriage, family, and gender roles.
Actually I think at least from my understanding, Gwynn didn't just 'become a tradwife'. She's in a way not traditional at all, at least looking it from an Asian perspective. As you might already know by now, in traditional Asian values (which probably isn't really that popular in Asia nowadays for numerous reasons), the last thing women should be are anything 'strong & independent', including (or especially) having an independent mindset. Instead, they're expected, materially, spiritually, and socially, depend on men, particularly their husbands, and maybe their kids too. And literally the only part of their life that gets looked at & valued on, is how good of a wife and mom. And of course they're pushed to marry & have kids early. Not marrying & not having kids is definitely not an option. And I feel that it's not just an Asian thing. Even in a country with a relatively short history like America you can probably see that this has been the norm throughout the history to some extent. And I think that Gwynn is definitely not closely as 'traditional' as that. (Although I feel like in Asia or the west very few ppl especially girls still believe in that anyways). And yeah, I guess in a way that's the problem of the so called 'progressivism' in America, where literally they don't teach you to be your true self & independent, which should be among the top principles of progressivism in my mind. So Gwynn I guess has always been 'progressive', or even has become more 'progressive' after meeting Mike as she became more confident & independent.
I guess there's being liberal and then there's being progressive. The ideas of anti-work, anti-entrepreneurship, and anti-monogamy run rampant among progressives. I think there's a difference between a liberated woman and a progressive woman. And yes that extreme old school Asian marriage mentality is not something we believe in. But getting married early, and wanting to have kids early have grounded and transformed our lives in magical ways.
Asian guys prefer conservative (European descent) ladies. 'Progressive'/ Regressive girls are extremely foreign to Asian guys (all three categories of Asian).
I dated this south american "progressive girl". She had mad tattoos, piercings, dyed hair and wanted to get more things done. She also had a mountain of mental issue and personal family trauma. I didn't mind much at first but she got more things done. That relationship didn't work out for possibly related reasons since she was also very LGBT and all into the polyamory lifestyle. What i learned is that, progressive girls tend to be physically attractive but it really depends on the person internally if they are a good fit for you. If you don't like how they are now, don't think you have the ability to change their ways basically. Tolerating their life might work but it could not work in the future if the progressiveness so to speak gets more intense and out of even your control and liking.
Great discussion and video. But there are things that I disagree with you on. While white progressive girls might generally be more open to interracial dating, they still predominantly stick to white guys. Not to mention all the Asian American progressive girls, like in the Bay Area. And on the other side, there's plenty of Christian Asian guys. But AMWF is still low even with them.
Hahaha I didn't want to touch on that especially since this video is controversial enough. I see your point. Even progressive leaders like AOC and Ilhan Omar ended up with white guys.
@@mikeandgwynn That's pretty easy to explain. Progressiveness is associated with whiteness, while traditionalism is associated with Asianness. Progressive girls (white or Asian) want to be associated with progressiveness, so they go after white guys.
@@mikeandgwynn yeup, it will definitely be a good video, can't wait to see you tackle that. BTW i might be bias, black African here, traveling and living in SE Asia for almost a year so far, pause i'm no Passport bro, love my gf and our daughter to death, she was stuck back in Africa due to passport issues, i'm just curious, where do you put black folks in this conversation? are they even considered in those discussions? do asian even know that there are black folks that are into asian culture and all the same way there are asian that are into hip hop and black stereotypes? you 2 guys realise that there are black conservatives too?or that even most black africans are from pretty conservative like traditions and values?that most blacks are the most devotees christian todays? it's always funny for me how when it come to interriacial couples it almost never fail that one half of the couple is white, same when asian say foreigners, they mainly mean whites or americans, and especialy the blue eyes blond hair ones...
Can’t speak for Asian men in the US but more likely than not the vast majority of American tradwives definitely prefer to date someone within their own race.
I'm kinda of stuck between Asian man No.2 and No.3, moved to US when I was about 13, but I still attached to my Asian culture more than, say my uncle, who moved to here about the same age but he's completely an ABC now, the reason was because my generation have internet and youtube, it's very easy to connect back to our current Asian culture, con to that is I'm not that American. Progressive girl is obviously everywhere in the big cities, but I think every girl is on a spectrum of extreme Progressive to Traditional, it's not like a fixed box for all of them. I personally do prefer traditional girls but open to progressive girls as long as they're not extreme progressive For example my mom was both, she's definitely a progressive girl back in Asia, she told me about her dating history and ex's, she's ok to live with her mother-in-law, which is my grandma, and my grandma always cook for the family everyday, only 2 meals on the weekend she'll leave it to my mom, and my mom was definitely family oriented, all she care the most was her kids, we'd go out on the weekend shopping and just have fun, and come on, who live with their mother-in-law in Asia nowadays? Whether these girls are traditional or progressive, I don't think they'll have a problem dating Asian guys though, since dating market is horrible for everyone in the US nowadays and not to even mention Asian guys, even though K pop and Anime boost up their chance a bit, but Covid also ruined it for us, a white girl or other non-Asian girls shouldn't have any problem to land their Asian guy, it's really easy, and if it doesn't work, then just go on to the next, that's the benefit of being a girl in dating market. What we should worry about is our current dating market and our Asian brothers who live in the west, even though with K pop and Anime can help us a bit, it's still not like a mainstream, a lot of girls still weed Asian guys out due to the American mainstream excluding Asian guys for decades, we need to put in more work to it
Stereotypes on western women have been perfectly portrayed by MVs like Complicated or Sk8er Boi from Avril Lavigne. Comment from a first-gen immigrant based in EU (probably moving to NA in the foreseeable future)
I'm more attracted to "traditional women" generally, however, traditional women (many of whom are conservative) tend to mostly date within their own race.
I can tell you, in Asia itself, and definitely with East Asian societies among the young and not-so-young (like those already in their 50s & 60s), dual income families have become the norm. Not necessarily by choice, but also by circumstances (rising cost of living). When asian women have better education now, and like I say with the cost of living, by and large husbands will also welcome them to be going to work and have their own lives (so they will also be less nagging and over-reliant). The ones whose wives don't work are either male chauvinists (wants face more than anything) or tycoons. By this yardstick, a lot east asian women are already progressive, but not necessarily feminists. Feminists are the other extreme. Like almost everything else, everything in moderation is healthy, no extremes please (neither of the end spectrum is considered good, whether it be feminist or the submissive traditional wifey role). I, for example, would prefer someone who has common topics to talk with after work, be it about mutually sharing about things that happened in the office , about the world etc. Things about hugging and kissing each other on the cheek or not doing it has more to do with one's culture than about being progressive or not. For me as a man, I don't usually hug a man or a girl for that matter because it isn't really part of my culture or something I grew up with, but I would not have a problem if someone somehow does it to me, whether man or woman. There are many definitions of a hug, which in my case, saying goodbye with a hug is a friendly hug, not a romantic one, there's a difference and you can tell. A friendly hug is just a quick and short one but does come across as less formal than a hand shake. - Hi from Singapore.
@@ALIEN_857 That's what I mean. I didn't say I initiated the hug, did I? What I'm saying is I'd have no problem with the other party if that person I know who is of a western culture or a culture that has such practice initiated it. Within Singapore, as far as I know (from your name you are either Singaporean or M'sian), it doesn't have to be a close friend to do so, sometimes like sending off a colleague, who is just a colleague and not necessarily close. Singaporeans in general seem to have adopted this, esp among much younger ones.
I think Mike is not exposed to living in Asia other than in China. Even in China today, women are progressive. In Vietnam, the women have been taking the lead economically for decades because after the war in the 70s, most of the men died in the war, hence it was the women that took the lead. In the Philippines, the men are not as hardworking as the women, prob right up to the end of the 20th Century.
I guess the definition of progressive is quite important in this discussion. Western progressivism is a whole different beast compared to the ideas behind second or even third wave feminism.
As a White man I much prefer Asian "traditional" women over "progressive" Western women. No competition in my mind. And yes, my wife is Asian - thank god!
Also. As always, I feel like it's really missing out on a lot of things in America & the west when the 'non-Hispanic white' is looked at as one race. For example, I always feel like certain ethnicities such as Eastern Europeans & Jewish, etc., who are considered 'white' & 'western' for the most part, are actually VERY different from other western white culture. And my own experience is that I feel like those cultures are more 'compatible' with Asian ones. Or at least for recent immigrants to the US from those parts of the world, I feel like more of them can find a better balance between 'traditional value' & 'progressivism' for the likes of Mikes at least, Asian guys who grew up in Asia but settled down in the US or another western country.
