- The JoistHoist was developed to help lift A/C, Electrical or Plumbing equipment into attics.
Check out JoistHoist on Facebook and see actual footage of the equipment in use. You can leave comments about your experiences with the tool and even talk to Tony Messina.
This company from China has now come along and stolen my idea and they make a lift rig that's so incredibly inferior to the JoistHoist that it's worth noting. The "Attic Pro" made in China by a company called Supco make a cheap knock off of my idea using a "pulling winch", not a "lifting winch". There is a difference, a life or death difference as the pulling winch is not made for holding a load as it is in use, it's designed to pull a weight only. A lifting winch is made a bit larger and they come with a "break" on the handle. When lifting a load, you can actually let go of the handle and it will stay right where you left it. With a pulling winch, under a load, there is a chance that if the handle gets away from you, or if you think it's stable and you let go to adjust or do something, it will drop the load. Experience taught me this directly as one day I was using it and the handle, under pressure of a load, the handle slipped out of my hand and instantly started to spin out of control dropping the load, I quickly tried to grab the handle to stop it, but it beat my arm black and blue. I was really hurt badly, but not bad enough to seek medical help. Luckily nobody was in the way either. Also, the pulling winch costs about $14 to $18 while a lifting winch costs $65. My rig opens to 30" wide, while I was told by an unhappy owner (that just ordered my rig) of the attic pro that it only opens to 21". I would never mount a rig with pointed large screw bolts as the point could penetrate the joist and actually under a load, split the joist. The JoistHoist mounts FLUSH to the joist and uses a bolt that can't split the joist as it's tip is cup shaped to crunch down on joist, not SPLIT THE JOIST. There are many differences between my JoistHoist and the stolen by China made rig called an attic pro. People who purchase an attic pro should seriously consider the liability of what would happen if the rig failed. Companies that sell the attic pro should seriously consider the liability issues that they might become involved in.
Brilliant simple and easy to use in a designated location.
Very limited in terms of use .
However its easily remounted in a different location.
yes indeed, it's designed for one use only, A/C contractors, but you can use it for a variety of things... thanks
Great stuff. Would love to see yiu idea for a stair lift concept. Need one but am not sure if a hoist or winch is best.
Brilliant design my friend, you obviously thought this through, looks like the limits of this are the ultimate strength of the joist, since it would fail before the equipment did, can I buy this in the UK please?
sure, give me an address so I can assess the shipping to see if it's not too much for you and I would have no problem sending this from here to there, if you like, you can contact me through my email address tonymessina@att.net, let me know.
@@tonymessinajr Hi Tony, thank you, I will email you my details and explain my intended application to see if you think it suitable, my very best to you and yours, keep safe, Jon
Can this be used for mounting an electric hoist to a single beam in my garage?
Very nice.
Awsome
Can this be used to power a DIY dumbwaiter? I'm planning on building a strawbale house with a basement and want a dumbwaiter to deliver laundry from the basement to the main floor of the house, but electrical dumbwaiters are hideously expensive.
Actually, this tool is specifically designed for a particular use, but it can be used or modified to do most anything that requires lifting, however, the speed of lift would be very slow as the spool in the winch is small, it would perhaps be better to have a larger spool with some kind of offset motor arrangement using some gear reduction pulleys or something, perhaps more like a "dumbwaiter" would have, don't know for sure. Let me know what you think.
that's awesome
thanks, but the Chinese already have, with this cheap knock off by a company from somewhere that makes them in china, but they are EXTREMELY INFERIOR to the JoistHoist, when you see one, you will agree... but thanks for the complement Joel
Very nice hoist!
The piece you have connected to the furnace, does it come with the lift...?
How much is your lift...?
Martin, thanks for your interest, the Joist Hoist lift rig is $199 and the piece attached to the furnace is called a "Double Bulldog" rig and it's sold separately. If you buy it with the Joist Hoist, it's $112. Total for both rigs is $311. If you want to see some information on these rigs, give me your email address and I will send it to you.

Hi Tony. I'm interested in the hoist
I like your idea , that's a very good tool to have , where can I find it
email me at tonymessina@att.net and I'll send you information, thanks....
How to make the rope to coil uniformly without overlap of coils ,which actually demage or untwist the steel rope.
the electric winch has a "skid plate" that rides against the spool of cable to keep it from "bird nesting", holding the cable flat against it's spool, as for the manual winch, there is no skid plate at my point of purchase, I have to make a skid plate for one of these, it's a feature that is on the price sheet a customer can have me make for them when they buy a Joist Hoist, but overall, the weight being lifted by the winch hardly ever makes the cable "foul up", but if your cable did become frayed and split, you can EASILY replace it yourself, or you can contact me for a new one that you can put on the winch, and my video shows me installing a new cable for people to see how easy it is to do..
@@tonymessinajrThanks a lot
The rod he is using will not let thecable spool up uniform. The cable has to be able to walk across the spool to spool the cable evenly.
Thanks for the detailed explanations. I've been searching for something to pull weights of 30 to 70lbs up stairs on a slider board or rails. That's how I got here. This product looks like it would work.
What's the price of the higher quality version?
Thanks
thanks Wakky Wabbit, send an email to tonymessina@att.net and I'll send you some information for ordering, thanks for the interest in JoistHoist rigs

you can contact me at tonymessina@att.net for information about this and other tools, I don't have a website as I'm an inventor and a mechanic, not rich enough to have a website made, sorry for the inconvenience, I'm a poor American trying to make it in a rich mans world, please contact me for more information on purchasing.
Thanks...i sent you an email

How do i get one?
Send and email to tonymessina@att.net and I will send you some info, I don't keep a standing inventory, I build, by hand of course, each rig per order, so if you want anything, it will take between 2 to 4 weeks to make it for you.
