This is very interesting , i have never ventured in JB for food . Thank you for sharing these locations ! It definitely worth the trip . Also rude owners no matter how good their food is , its just not worth mentioning at all. Eating and enjoying a meal is a whole experience from serving to being serve and the enjoying the taste. An arrogant and rude owners spoils it from the very start. There's always other better options . Good job Elmo on this !

Good illustration on Johore and also showing us the food in JB. Something new I learned is the way they named the "TeowChew Koay Chap" as "Koay Teow Zai". Liked the description where it was mentioned " after going for a pigeon's rounding" ( in Cantonese Tar kor pak kap chuen) - still not able to find any stalls to likings. Thank you again Elmo.

Elmo, I have been enjoying your videos and I find them very interesting and informative . Besides the foods , those information and history background are very great content too . Recently , I realize that you are currently highlighting foods in south peninsular. May I suggest some smaller town in Johor like Muar , Batu Pahat, Kulai or etc when you have chance and time . Until next time stay safe and healthy.

Awesome video! We loved learning the history of JB and all the great information you provided about where to eat and what to get at each place. So nice that you were able to share a bit about the people running these businesses as well. We're in JB for the next week and we're keen to try some of these dishes ourselves 😋

At historical Hiap Joo Bakery, there is the last remaining wood fired oven. Among the popular buns, I loved their coconut bun the most. IMHO even in KL I cannot find another banana cake better than theirs.

    "Best Foodie Haunts"
    Impressed with the title.
The word HAUNT has 2 definitions
    (1) to appear in the form of a ghost
    (2) a place frequented by ppl often
"A place that is the haunt of a particular person is one which they often visit becuz they enjoy going there."
Indeed, English is a beautiful language.

Welcome to Johor Bahru Elmo. You miss couple of Teochew influence dishes, for example 水粿,三樓干米粉 and 粿條湯. You should also try JB style laksa (not laksa Johor). Compare to central and north, food from Johor is more bland.

No no, Elmo, I am afraid that the southern Chinese traditional cutleries are disappearing the Mainland China (and we are all intelligent enough to know why). In fact, Overseas Chinese (esp the compatriots in Malaysia) have actually maintained the traditions for us. Let's be honest, if you want to try the most authentic Cantonese cuisine, would you head to 廣州十三行 or Markham, Canada? Keep up with these videos. You're a driving force to keep this art alive.

Elmo Lee Personally I think this video of JB foodies is far from the truth on real good food in JB. Why ??? it's because your left out one of JB food icon when you were just around that area. The food icon I would like to acknowledge here which you miss is the famous Best of the Best chicken chop in jb City 2nd generations 76years old Restaurant HWA MUI. The shop you mention in your video on chicken chop was originally came out from Restaurant HWA MUI. HWA MUI not only serves very good n one of the best chicken chop in jb but also serves very good roti bakar butter kaya n beautiful ❤️ hainanese coffee. I am a loyal customer of Restaurant HWA MUI for the last 40 years. My only intentions are to share gooood food with your subscribers. TQ.

The bad attitude bakuteh shop that was mentioned by Elmo wasn't worth trying, I had personally tried it before, and the taste is below average compared to many other good bakuteh in Johor Bahru, to name a few:
    1. Bak Cheng Bak Kut Teh
81, Jalan Harmonium 35/1, Taman Mount Austin, 81100 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
    2. 国泰肉骨茶 Kadai Makanan Cathay
26, Jalan Sutera Merah 2, Taman Sutera, 81200 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
    3. Restaurant Shun Fa Bak Kut Teh
43, Jalan Indah 16/12, Taman Bukit Indah, 81200 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
From my personal experience, the lady boss of Kin Hua kopitiam is quite rude and has a bad attitude towards customer during my patron. Will never return. I recommend 沁园咖啡馆 Qin Garden, 7, Jalan Dhoby, Bandar Johor Bahru, 80000 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. Better roti panggang, nicer coffee and tea, and a must try Nasi padang Adam. Nice food nice people there.
Restaurant IT Roo mentioned in Elmo's video is a must try for tourist. Even the locals love it. Boss Robin is a down-to-earth business owner who controls his quality of foods strictly. It was no surprise for a food shop to last for more than 20 years!

So far the best bak kut teh i have tried is 一品肉骨茶 E Pin Bak Kut Teh
26, Jalan Indah 15/1, Taman Bukit Indah, 81200 Johor Bahru, Johor
      1.4822012553294444, 103.66053109690797
The soup bak kut teh is nice, and because they use condensed soup, so can only add once, nmot even when you offered to pay for extra soup.
You have to try the "dry" bak kut teh, it looks dark and scary but the flavour... my goodness. I brought my Taiwanese friends and Singaporean friends to go there many times and never failed my expectations even once.
