  • A phlebotomist is trained to make an incision in a vein with a needle to draw blood from a patient for diagnostic and other medical purposes. Postsecondary phlebotomy programs are available in community colleges and vocational schools. Professional certification in Ohio is through the American Society of Clinical Professionals. About 40% of phlebotomists work in hospitals. The phlebotomist in this video assists patients at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
