    Dan, I totally agree that this is a fun tool to play with and if you're trying to develope a certain kind of personal style, you can save your recipes as presetw, amd then test them out on a number of different kinds of images. With the newer cameras like the X-T4... you can then save up to 7 of your recipes to the camera from inside the software and shoot with them on the go. That alone is probably the coolest feature to me. I'm heading up your way this weekend to photograph brown bears, so hopefully the salmon are running strong right now.

      @@DanBaileyPhoto I have an X100VI. It’s just been on an amazing tour of China and arrived back on Monday night, where I took 1000+ shots. With the smallrig grip and Nisi HD all in one filter it performed superbly. I’ve downloaded the RAW studio onto my Mac yesterday but need a bit more time to connect up. Pretty sure I was taking jpeg (for film sims) and Fuji RAW all the time. Of course, when I took the SD card out and stuck it into the Mac for a quick view there is no info as it tends to choose Preview as its default viewer. Gave me an initial idea. People shots were superb colour rendition. Many beautiful people and costumes out there.
      I used Velvia for landscapes, especially on dull days, Provia for neutral colours in cities and tried Reala Ace for a few shots. All are good. Now looking to tweak the best shots.
      By the way, the iPhone 15 pro max was a brilliant back up and really came into its own for night videos etc and odd shots at shows where even the small Fuji would be indiscreet. Unlike other attendees, I turned the screen brightness right down to not interfere with other peoples shots.
      Always best to have a back up.

      Regarding focus, if this is happening when shooting still subjects, make sure you're using Single AF (switch on the body). Also, Single AF mode will keep the little focus box stationary, while Zone AF and Wide/Tracking will automatically search for the subject. Usually those two modes do a good job, but with some subject, they can hunt too much. I would experiment with these three AF modes and see which one works best. Also, make sure Face Detection AF is off. Sometime that causes the camera to hunt and find faces in odd shaped subject matter. Hope that helps. Let me know if any of those suggestions work.

I'm the same, with my 2010 Mac Pro, in addition to max RAM, I''ve also replaced two of the four drives with SSD. I'm honesty surprised at how well this thing is still chugging along. My previous Mac (G5) only gave me about 5 years of service.
      And yes, there's no reason that the X-T1 can't still be a relevant camera. Even though it won't work with X RAW STUDIO, it has a great sensor and good performance. It's still capable of shooting great looking photos. When I look back at my catalog, many of my favorite X Series images were shot with the X-T1, and I was able to crank out all the performance I needed at the time. It's all about perspective. Sure, the newer models have faster processors and more features, but from a basic photography standpoint, the X-T1 is a great picture taking tool.

It does have a steep learning curve, especially for new users, which is why I like the simplicity of X-RAW STUDIO. The two programs can be used in conjunction for maximum control and processing options.

    Hi Dan, great insight, thanks. I have 2 concerns. Firstly, the principal problem, you - like some other UA-cam contributors - omit to show that the images must be transferred from camera to pc first, before starting the conversion routine. The Fuji user guide also omits this step, but it really can cause difficulty for someone new to the program - and why else would you want to view this tutorial?
    Secondly, the cursor movement in this video is sometimes too quick to follow and if some of the menu items are partially hidden it is difficult to see what you are actually doing. Otherwise, thanks, I learned a lot from it!

      Thanks for your comment. Regarding image transfer from card to computer, I didn't cover that, because everyone has a different method for downloading their images from the camera. I use Photo Mechanic, but you could also use a different program, or simply do drag and drop in the finder.
      X RAW STUDIO aside, how do you usually download your images from your camera to your computer? Also, what Fuji do you use and what do you like to photograph?

      Gert, those are the sidecar files that contain the actual instructions for the conversions, much like the Adobe XMP files for Lightroom and Photoshop. No, X RAW STUDIO software actually uses the camera's internal processor to do the edits and conversions, so the camera needs to be hooked up for the program to work. This make the program run more efficiently, because it doesn't rely on the speed/power of your computer.

      Lynne, X RAW STUDIO saves your conversions into the original folder where you are browsing your RAW files. Once the conversion is done, you can move the image to whatever folder you wish, and you should then be able to import it into Lightroom. Or, if Lightroom is already looking at the folder where your RAW files are, you can synchronize the folder inside LR to update and show the newly converted file. Hope this helps.

      @DanBaileyPhoto 3 місяці тому

      Thanks for your comment, and congratulations on your new X100VI! I hope you're having lots of fun with it.
      To answer your question, X RAW STUDIO will look at whatever folder you point to on your computer. After you download the photos from the camera, you can can put them in any folder you wish, according to your own file system. My recommendation is to put them in an empty folder, and you can always move them later. I would even cull through them and delete your rejects with another program before opening them up in X RAW STUDIO, because the more images you have in the folder, the longer it will take to browse through them. Culling first will help speed up your workflow.
      Also, when you make the conversions, X RAW STUDIO simply creates a JPEG copy of the original image, with a sequential file number/letter, in case you make multiple different conversions of the same image. Does that make sense?

If you want a slightly lower contrast scene, choose something like PRO Neg. STD or ETERNA. Finally, play around with your exposure and use the EV+/- dial to adjust the scene to your liking. X RAW STUDIO is a powerful and really interesting program that allows a great deal of customization and adjustments within Fujifilm's parameters, but it doesn't offer the comprehensive, deep editing capabilities of programs like Photoshop, Capture One or DxO PhotoLab. If you like to do expansive editing, then you would probably want a program like that, but if you want an efficient way to adjust things like Film sims, highlight/Shadow Tone, push/pull and white balance, then X RAW STUDIO is a great choice. And since it's free, X RAW STUDIO can be a great companion/alternative program to one of those other editors, for times when you want to go Fuji specific with your edits, and don't necessarily want/need to do expansive editing.

When I look at the folder in my Mac Finder, I see the original RAF file and also the converted JPEGs, which are noted as "FileName"(1), (2), etc.... In DxO PhotoLab, and perhaps Capture One, make sure you reset the filtering options. Mine weren't showing up in DxO until did that, then all the images suddenly appeared. At the very last, they should be in the Finder. Probably a dumb question, but are you sure you're looking in the right folder?

    • @DanBaileyPhoto
      @DanBaileyPhoto Рік тому +1

      Hi there, thanks for your comment. In order for X RAW STUDIO to work, images will have to be saved onto the internal hard drive on your computer, or to an external drive. They won't be able to be read directly from the SD card. Hopefully that should work for you.

      I shot with an X70 for a while, a fun little camera but yes, a bit frustrating at times. The X-T2, on the other hand, is perhaps my favorite Fujifilm of all time, only recently surpassed by the X-T5, which feels very similar. Many of my favorite photos were shot with the X-T2, and it will always have a special place in my heart.

    What Fuji must do asap is that Fuji X Raw Studio doesn't render every little change because it takes hours the workflow. It should work as in camera raw edition: first you can modify all the parameters you Wan and then you hit a button to preview the image and if you like it, then you convert to jpeg. The current way of Fuji X Raw generates a preview for every little parameter you change wich makes horrible the post production process and takes hours to edit a few photos.

    • @DanBaileyPhoto
      @DanBaileyPhoto 2 роки тому +1

      Hi Martino, thanks for your comment. I haven't found that X RAW STUDIO takes very long to edit a few photos, in fact, I find it to be rather efficient at what it does. Curious, what computer are you running?

    • @martinohesse
      @martinohesse 2 роки тому +1

      @@DanBaileyPhoto I'm using a MSI laptop, with 24 gb ram, 1 tb ssd, core i7. It works pretty fast when I edit videos or using capture one. But when I'm using fuji x raw, each time i change a parameter, the preview of image is rendered. So if a want to make 16 adjustments to one image, it takes a long time in total. It even renders as simply as when I am scrolling options for example between film simulations, even if I didn't select any of them.

    • @DanBaileyPhoto
      @DanBaileyPhoto 2 роки тому +1

      Martino, I find the program to be pretty fast with adjustments, but it can be quite slow when browsing through a folder of many (hundreds or thousands) of images. I will usually create a dedicated folder of images I know I want to work on and copy my selects into that folder, so that I'm not having to browse through a giant folder full of image files.

    does this mean if i sell the camera then i wont be able to edit the raw files again ever???

    • @DanBaileyPhoto
      @DanBaileyPhoto 3 місяці тому

      Unfortunately, yes. Since the actual processing in X RAW STUDIO is done inside the camera, then not having the original camera would mean that you can't use the program to edit those files in the future. Of course, you can use other programs to edit your Fuji RAW files, just not X RAW STUDIO.

      Hi, the X-T20 does have the USB RAW CONV./BACKUP RESTORE setting inside the CONNECTION SETTINGS Menu under the SETUP MENU. It wasn't in the original firmware, though.
