Hi i'm viatron from Sheffield again, I remember there were a very tragic fire at 'King alfred buses' storage place on the 9th of November 2023 last year when seven preserved service buses & one touring coach were totally destroyed including the very unique Leyland Olympic integral single deck bus also from 'King Alfred ' subjecting to very bad unsecured storage shed via featuring in 'Bus & Coach Preservation ' magazine. Well I feel very sadened about the lost of the Leyland Olympic single deck bus from King Alfred & it will be very sad not see it run on the road ever again so R.I.P. Leyland Olympic integral single deck bus from King Alfred we all will miss you in the future. Thank you for your co-operation on this very sad subject from David viatron of crookes in Sheffield.

00:30: That's a very clean Leyland engine there 😊. I'd love to travel on a Leopard coach one day!

Another point to note is if the preserved bus is under 25 years old a tachograph is needed

Great video Jake. From my experience prospective owners are either the diehard enthusiasts who know exactly what vehicle they want, warts and all, or those with ‘rose tinted spectacles’ who just fancy owning a bus and then fall into the trap of realising the pitfalls soon into their ownership. Friends of mine fall into the former category and both have former Leicester City Transport vehicles, where I now live, and these are kept in a large watertight shed, one is a’66 AEC Renown and the other a ‘56 Leyland PD3/1 that took 26 years to fully restore from being a failed Playbus project.

Thanks and very true Michael. Youv got to do your homework on what you want to own. As you say, a lot of people (myself including) knew exactly what they want before they got it.
Nice to see Leicester buses in preservation. Somewhere I've never been but always admired their buses.

@@JakeSCOC well worth coming for the Quorn event, as this is based at the Great Central railway station car park and there are usually around 50 buses and coaches present with many free rides and the opportunity to travel on heritage railway. This event is usually held in May and September each year.

I bought an ex Arriva RML from the secretary of the Routemaster Association back in 2003. Ex Arriva and Ex Kentish Bus JJD 591D with an Iveco engine and the awful interior mods. Battered bodywork, Arriva just didn't care like LT.
I had trouble trying to store it but managed to find space with Shamrock & Rambler in Poole who also owned the preserved Yellow Buses back then. It got to be a bit of a pain because I could only take it out when their buses were on school runs. I ended up selling it on and in recent pictures I see that it has been converted to an open topper.
I should have bought a beautiful Royal Blue RE instead that was going for sale about the same time and a lot cheaper than the £11,500 I paid for the RML.
    Such is life 🙄

@@kristinajendesen7111 Sadly you never know if you don't try. Accommodation is the biggest problem though isn't it?

@@JakeSCOC I struggled but I was lucky because I did a bit of part time with Bournemouth Routemaster run by Shamrock so they remembered me. Bus enthusiasts too of course. Sadly they couldn't get lottery funding for the YB collection because they weren't 'diverse' enough despite the owners being gay.

Will there be a video going in detail for bus storage?

Yes there will. We're in a bit of a crisis with large vehicle storage in the UK at the moment.

@jakeyb2003 so what if I wanted to buy a 2006 Enviro400 would that be a problem as well, and what should I look out for?

I'd speak to the guys at Bromley Bus Preservation as they have a few and are experienced with them.
