Game Show Garbage - Tic Tac Dough '90s Commercials

- An off the cuff style of induction this time out. People have been asking me how much is left on Tic Tac Dough '90 and will it get inducted. Honestly, no. However, there is one thing that made this show unwatchable from the start: some of the worst commercials for a game show that I've ever seen. We take a look at three of them in this special induction that give me commercialitis.

10:02 the "Surfin USA" singing followed by the "NOOOOO" is frickin hilarious! Awesome stuff as always!
You just made me remember Naturally Stoned. I loved the episode where Chuck went to the "Bulk Item Store." I remember they covered up any reference to the store because they could get clearance to use the name. It was either BJ's or Costco's since I remember the logo being red in the blurry mess. More likely Costco since that is national and not regional.
I watched it, it was a complete bomb the whole time.
Did you ever see the "Baby Rap" commercial for the Ray Combs FAMILY FEUD? I haven't but I kept hearing about it?
Challengers ad has Ernie Anderson, auto win.
The Eyyyyyewitness News Team takes a sail on the Looooove Boat, right after...ROOTS.
I see the logo at 9:33 is the ITC Gazette with the ITC “Gold Top” print logo.
"Here's a game show that combines knowledge with Tic Tac Toe" (shows clips of the set, gameplay, the show etc.) "The Son of the Duke, Patrick Wayne hosts, Tic Tac Dough! Weekday afternoons on USA Network!"
And I just came up with it off the top of my head.
Would it include Patrick shouting “yooooouuuuu wiiiiiinnnnnnnn!!!!”?
The first TTD commercial reminds me of the syndicated 1988 FAMILY FEUD where they chant THE FEUD IS BACK.
Which I'd LOVE to see again!
You make some great points here on how TTD '90's commercials didn't really bring the show across in a good light as compared to The Challengers w/the great, late Dick Clark, but I think what would be even better is if (for shows w/two or more eras) you compare the commercials across eras (like this TTD '90 as compared to the 80s Martindale TTD); that might be an interesting spinoff of this.
Missing from the TTD 90's commercials and on the back of those TTD t-shirts:
YOUUU WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN!

@AndreaReyes We have made several changes and I know you’re going to like them
The TTD commercials were a product of the “everything has to have a jingle” rule of the time period
I recently unearthed a promo for Classic Concentration from 1987, and honestly, the aesthetic isn't dissimilar. Its seems like the standard to promote game shows in the late '80s/early '90s was to have it to be as catchy as an MTV video, with Alex Trebek appearing behind a grid of 16 squares with various animations that are loosely related to show including two cartoon-drawn contestants, a Catch Phrase-style puzzle (not using the actual rebus symbols), a bunch of cars to represent the bonus round, along with NBC voiceover guy Danny Dark rapping in the background. Yet CC continues to get praise unlike TTD '90s, where the flaws in the actual show that have been milked to death surely turned out to be the difference.
On Commercial 1, I used to think that was actually Wink Martindale back in 1990 when WYFF 4 (NBC) picked up the series for that Fall. Same tanned face and wide eyes and smile!
Oh, Game Show Commercials. I'd be on board for that.
Tic Tac Dough '90 was a major stinker. I still remember that off bonus game and how quickly it just was gone. In Los Angeles ( where it was made) , in maybe 8 or 9 weeks. These adverts are just plain WTF.

So are we gonna FINALLY talk about The Challengers soon? #GamesOf90
The second commercial sounded more like Art of Noise. It was the least bad of the three since it wasn’t a cheesy song.
The second sounds like a watered down version of Yello’s “Oh Yeah” from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”.
ad #2....and we DIDN'T see the rapping dragon coming because of this?
The second promo was definitely a ripoff of Yello’s “Oh Yeah” from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”.
Had to come back to ask....might we see a second installment...this time with the bizarre Buzzr teasers for Whew! ?
I thought TTD 90 was already inducted?
It never was. I did a Games Of '90 for it, but never a full fledged induction. There is enough good about the show that prevents me from inducting it outright.
For the most part, I like TTD-90. But there's no defending these commercials. They're so cringy. The second commercial was the worst of the three by far.
Thanks for inducting these into Game Show Garbage.
These are three promos for the 1990 edition of “Tic Tac Dough”. The second one sounds like Yello’s “Oh Yeah”, but it was out of place. “Tic Tac Dough”, the 1990 edition was on late at night on WNBC-TV (channel 4) with “The Joker’s Wild”, the 1990 edition was at around 2:30AM which was a dreadful where people are still in bed and never watched a game show. #TicTacIsBack #YouWin #InAMoment
In regards to the commercials for "Tic Tac Dough": "What the heck am I seeing?"
Is that 1990's Joker's Wild commercial on UA-cam? I can't seem to find it. Could someone please direct me to it? Thanks.
@Andrea Reyes Uh, that didn't answer my question.
@@VahanNisanian Yeah. You better block this woman. She's a spammer.
@@JonesDylan874 Finally did.
@@VahanNisanian Thank you.
Actually, it's Sony who owns the rights to _Tic Tac Dough,_ not NBCUniversal.
But for “Tic-Tac Dough ‘90”, not sure, but maybe ITV Studios in the UK owns this godawful trash when it was distributed by ITC at the time. In addition, ITV Studios acquired all of ITC stuff including “Thunderbirds”, “Space: 1999”, “The Saint”, “Captain Scarlett”, and others, not the “Muppet Show”, because it’s owned by Disney since it was originally by Jim Henson and ITC.
As Homer Simpson would say, this version is "Tic Tac... D'oh!" :)
@9:33 The only pic of anything from the actual series in any of the commercials and you can’t quite tell if it’s from the actual series or the pilot.
Classic Marketing 101 Rule of Thumb, “If you can’t sell a good commercial in 30 seconds, chances are your product is going to be doomed to fail.” Guess what happened with Tic Tac Dough ‘90? It failed. Failed to stick around past 1 season, much less the entire season.
It only lasted 65 episodes, ended production in December, went into reruns until March before going off the air entirely.
Wow... those commercials were BAD. I'm glad I wasn't born in the 90's.
Hey Cyndi, If you want to for the next Game Show Garbage. Could you do The All New Bowling for Dollars that aired on WADL-TV in Detroit. The contestants were never payed in cash after the show went off the air. What do you think?
Oddity Archive touched upon it
Tries to hard to be hip. Not exactly a great selling point.
The Joker's Wild '90s commercials ("Going wild!") were only SLIGHTLY better.
That reboot was more horrible than truth or consequences reboot and the commercials were absolutely awful!
No. TTD at least resembled what it used to be. "TOC" did not.
Yeah you're right, but I didn't like the host of ttd reboot. As for toc that was horrible and it shouldn't have been on the air at that time.
Those Tic Tac Dough '90 commercials went from bad to worse to even worse
The second one sounded like Yello’s “Oh Yeah” with a twist from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”.
They weren’t talking about Tic Tacs.
Tic Tac referred to the show Tic Tac Dough.
Whoosh
OH GOD! Cyndi, Andrea Reyes is in here... you need to block her. She's a spammer. Block anandguruji83, as well.
Why couldn’t you just capture the fourth commercial from your collection?
There was a 4th promo, and it was rather short. It’s right in-between the other two game shows. Including “Family Feud” and “Jeopardy”, and that promo ran for about 10 seconds. ua-cam.com/video/5DLWpPRFokQ/v-deo.html
12:57 kinda sounds like vh1 the list (1999-2000).
If it had a better host and maybe not the reset pot, the show would be better.
Patrick Wayne Tic Tac is back!!!😁✌💯

We made some changes that I KNOW you'll love!
Tic tac dough 1990 still sucks.
And you know what? "Tic Tac Is Back!"
@@Musicradio77Network that is true.

@@Musicradio77Network MTN needs to recite the dragon raps.
Dragon and Knight are better rappers then kayne west
I couldn't stand either this or the Joker's Wild reboot in 1990. Pat Finn is a terrible host. I don't care that he hosted the awful Shop Till You Drop. Both these shows sucked.
